Sorry UAC UNSW/WSU/JMPDepends on the University/TAC.
I don't think WSU have dome top ups yet. If they have then yes , again if your quite far from the cut-off it's unlikely to get an interview so you could remove it for another course before top-ups if you wanted.Hi, huge apologies if this has been asked before.
But if we haven't received a WSU offer by now, is it safe to take it off our UAC preferences and replace it with something else like Computer Science etc.?
Assuming you're asking cross-school UAC prefs, no we haven't worked out a way to pref CSP at one school higher than BMP at another. Can only pref the whole school. It's a flaw that neither UAC nor any school would listen to us applicants.Just to confirm there is no possible way we can preference a CSP over a a BMP
Do WSU top up interview offers come out before 1-3 Dec? Or do they interview more people after 1-3 Dec? Thanks..I don't think WSU have dome top ups yet. it should be before [As in top-ups come before the 1st as WSU don't have a 2nd round of interviews similar to JMP]Do WSU top up interview offers come out before 1-3 Dec? Or do they interview more people after 1-3 Dec? Thanks..
Not really ... I think like everyone else, you would have to just wait till the offer release date.Is there any way to find out if a uni will be giving us an offer beforehand and then shuffle our preferences accordingly before offers are out??
Why would you rearrange your preferences based on this, out of curiosity? You’ll still get given the highest offer you’re eligible for regardless of the order of preferences. Unless you mean in attempt to get multiple place offers by rearranging preferences between offer rounds? Is there any way to find out if a uni will be giving us an offer beforehand and then shuffle our preferences accordingly before offers are out??
As Crow said, if you qualify for one offer you'll get it regardless of its pref position. However if you qualify for two which happen to be one unbonded one bonded, it'd be nice to know in advance so you can shuffle the unbonded to higher pref. But by that stage the pref-change page is locked. Is there any way to find out if a uni will be giving us an offer beforehand and then shuffle our preferences accordingly before offers are out??
Why doesn’t UNSW/WSU and UoN disclose to UAC how they rank the applicants for bonded/unbonded and campus pref and then let UAC do the rest?As Crow said, if you qualify for one offer you'll get it regardless of its pref position. I asked UNSW to help request UAC to call these dual qualifiers 1-2 days before release, to let us personally choose rather than decided by the pref system. But apparently it's not possible because the pref sorting sequence is like:
- The three schools UNSW WSU JMP send their ranked lists to UAC
- UAC cross-check their prefs, example from UNSW's list 1st to 25th get UNSW, 26th & 27th get WSU because they pref WSU higher etc.
- The post-pref lists are sent back to the schools to allocate unbonded/bonded/campus
IOW if UAC were to call these dual qualifiers their unbonded/bonded/campus at each school is still unknown at that stage.
Honestly, I can see why UAC would not be keen to get involved in this. The reality is, it’s not just UNSW/WSU/UoN, it’s UNSW Kensington, Wagga, and Port Maq, WSU, CSU, UoN Newy and CCC, and UNE. Then CSP and BMP at each. Why doesn’t UNSW/WSU and UoN disclose to UAC how they rank the applicants for bonded/unbonded and campus pref and then let UAC do the rest?
i.e. allowing you to preference unbonded over bonded at different universities and campus locations
Yeah sounds like a lot of work tbhHonestly, I can see why UAC would not be keen to get involved in this. The reality is, it’s not just UNSW/WSU/UoN, it’s UNSW Kensington, Wagga, and Port Maq, WSU, CSU, UoN Newy and CCC, and UNE. Then CSP and BMP at each.
Yeah as A1 mentioned if one offer was bonded and the other was unbonded it would be good to know before so I could shuffle. Also do unis look at our preferences when handing out offers or is it entirely based on the selection rank/ interview /ucat.Why would you rearrange your preferences based on this, out of curiosity? The schools don't look at your UNSW/JPM/JMP preferences, that's UAC's job. They do look at your campus preferences and it should go by your final ranking. Also do unis look at our preferences when handing out offers or is it entirely based on the selection rank/ interview /ucat.
What about people who pref'ed WSU but didn't get an offer? Will they, too, not be considered for a round 2 UNSW offer? The schools don't look at your UNSW/JPM/JMP preferences, that's UAC's job. They do look at your campus preferences and it should go by your final ranking.
Example: UNSW has 140 non-rural places. The post-pref list back from UAC indicates 1st to 170th qualify for an offer (after removing 30 who pref'ed & got WSU - see note below). UNSW re-arranges these 1st-170th to a new 1st-140th ranking, gives 1st-100th CSP, 101st-140th BMP.
Then assuming everyone pref Kensington > Port > Wagga : 1st-80th get Kensington CSP, 81st-100th Port/Wagga CSP, 101st-130th Kensington BMP, 131st-140th Port/Wagga BMP (these numbers are my estimates).
Note: From UNSW advice the 30 applicants who pref'ed & got WSU are indeed removed from UNSW's consideration, if they shuffle UNSW to 1st pref for a round2 offer they won't get one.
Four scenarios with WSU higher pref:What about people who pref'ed WSU but didn't get an offer? Will they, too, not be considered for a round 2 UNSW offer?
There's never enough overthinking with prefs, when it comes to bonded vs unbonded.I feel like there is a bit too much overthinking going on with prefs.
But.... what about 4. High ATAR + Lowish UCAT.....? C'mon A1, can't be skipping on this clear possibilityThere's never enough overthinking with prefs, when it comes to bonded vs unbonded.
Here's food for thought - we know final ranking for UNSW is typically 1/3 1/3 1/3 weighted, WSU 25% UCAT 75% interview, JMP 100% interview. And the higher chance of an offer = more likely of higher final ranking = more likely of unbonded, agreed? So ...
1) If you have near top ATAR + UCAT giving you 70-80% UNSW chance (vs WSU 40% vs JMP 25%) you should pref UNSW>WSU>JMP
2) If you have lowish ATAR + top UCAT giving you 30% UNSW chance, you should pref WSU>UNSW>JMP
3) If you have lowish ATAR+UCAT reducing both UNSW/WSU chances to 20%, you should pref JMP>WSU>UNSW
This^ is what I call overthinking![]()
