Admissions Centres Preferencing: General Discussion

That's true. I was thinking that when the uni/school gives UAC the course code they offer it might include the info whether it's unbonded or bonded. With this info UAC could elevate unbonded B to higher than bonded A for the applicant before releasing.

If applicants only learn of unbonded/bonded later from the school's offer email then we have to try to fix it after the event. Say after receiving bonded A they need to call UAC to ask if they would have got B, then call school B to ask if it would be unbonded.
So the conundrum continues...
Which to put first for the January UAC round. Sorry if this has already been asked and answered/explained. UNSW vs JMP first preference. Actual Preferences are UNSW PMQ CSP > JMP CSP > UNSW Kens CSP > JMP Bonded > UNSW Bonded. ATM UNSW 1st and JMP 2nd....but JMP usually oversubscribes the first round in January so the potential to miss out altogether is great.

The current plan is to email UNSW MESO and ask for 'Bonded' option to be removed from UNSW application, leave UNSW as first preference, JMP second and let fate take care of the rest...

No I wouldn't recommend that at all. Who knows you could be below the line for JMP plus missing out UNSW bonded.

Okay... Thankyou. So is there any way we can manage this conundrum? The potential is great to getting a UNSW bonded over a JMP CSP in the Jan round without any option of a JMP CSP in subsequent rounds. So should we simply put JMP first even though UNSW PMQ CSP is our 1st preference?

One thing you can do for now is to email MESO asking to make your UNSW application for PMQ only. There's no risk of losing an offer in this since if you hypothetically qualify for a Kensington spot you should qualify for PMQ as well.

Now to the other problem. Putting JMP first could see you getting JMP bonded over a PMQ unbonded. The thinking is you can then move UNSW to higher pref hoping for an offer in the interstate round. That may or may not work. We know UNSW does offer any interstate spares to NSW applicants who just missed the cutoff in the NSW round, but it's not conclusive whether they do to those who did make their cutoff but got a higher-pref offer elsewhere.

There's no good answer to this conundrum unless UAC steps in to help.

Just called UAC regarding the preference system and how we can’t put (for example) unbonded spots over bonded spots in our preference list since UAC only allows you to preference unis as a whole.

The lady who answered said that she wasn’t aware of bonded/unbonded spots. She said that since the unis got me to indicate whether or not I’d like to be in the running for a bonded spot, the uni would be the one to know if I’m eligible for a bonded/unbonded spot (UAC apparently doesn’t have that information). She told me to try calling the unis up regarding this and see if they let me know and then changing the preference list accordingly.

might do it later but I gotta go now 🤡
Hey, any update? I sent emails to JMP and WSU med faculties. Have not heard back from WSU and JMP lady didn't understand my email so I clarified but haven't heard back yet.

UAC told me to contact the unis since the unis have the info on what place offer you have. WSU hasn’t responded. UNSW said it wouldn’t be fair to reveal that info to one applicant and leave the rest in the dark. We can’t change our preferences anymore anyway so looks like we gotta wait till the 10th

Both Curtin and UWA say that they will release offers to applicants directly from the unis if the applicant ranks highly enough. Does this mean that the TISC referencing doesn't matter?

Yup. I'm just gonna wait and then call up the unis to sort it out afterward

Based on information that MSO have collected, which medical schools are the most popular? Which are the ones that applicants continually placed in their first preference? I’m merely interested to know & if someone has a rough list of medical schools that applicants preference over the years that would be swell. :)

For NSW schools I guess most put UNSW 1st (near city), WSU 2nd then JMP 3rd (both due to distance to Sydney).

Have a look in this table for the rest > TACs Offer Statistics Archive

EtA: Ironically full-fee Bond has the highest ratio of First prefs to Total applied. Yes there's a reason for it but Bond can proudly put that "fact" on their recruiting materials :)

For JMP, who should we call? UNSW offered a bonded place. Had we been able to differentiate between Bonded/Unbonded in preferences JMP bonded/unbonded is preferred over UNSW bonded.
send an email to [email protected] and explain your situation. Ask if you would have been offered an unbonded position had it been your first preference and ask if it could be arranged that you receive that offer instead of unsw bonded. Try to be as clear as possible because when I sent them an email about it they didn't really understand.

edit: wait did you mean JMP unbonded is preferred? if jmp unbonded/bonded are preferred why not just put jmp first?

Because UNSW PMQ Unbonded was first preference.

When is the next UAC offer round that UNSW participates in? Is it Feb round 1? Or Jan round 2?
Also, when is the next SATAC offer round that UAdel and Flinders participate in?
Couldn't find this on either website - can someone point me in the right direction? :)

Is it possible to enrol in two courses at the same time? I received a usyd dent offer last round and enrolled, and now I have a griffith med offer (via UAC) which says I have to enrol within 6 days. Not sure which one to go for ://
