yeah medsci papers are open for enrolment 15th of december
I also found out that silly MBCHB 551A/B isn't open for enrolment until then too. This is the first year I've actually had to enrol myself bah

congrats lordgarlic ^_^, no more exams for you I guess (until your post-grad registrar years). Poor 4th years still haven't started their exams...

Heey biomed/BHS 1st yrs!

There is free Med interview workshop being help on Nov 16th from 6-9pm at the grafton campus in the room behind the cafe.

There are still many places available so if anybodys interested email [email protected] to book a place!! (yy)

I thought advertising like this was banned

Is it??
well m not part of YACMA. I herd that they need more students to ensure that the workshop goes ahead. They've only got 4 so far including me LOL!

So i thot i'll inform you guys. ^_^

It's a close run thing to being advertising.

But because it's free, and apparently altruistic I'll allow it this once..

technically it's a medsoc run event I guess
YACMA = young auckland chinese medical association

however I wouldnt advertise it here. I think it's a silly thing to go to because no one can really predict the interviews at auckland. everyone will have different views

like what I told govpop could be completely different to how it turns out

to all those med students out there... what's the best way to prepare for this interview?
anything we need to think alot about, or read?

any advice would be welcome! :)

I think it may be helpful to have an idea of what the ministry of health is up to. I also read through Cole's Medical Practice New Zealand, although most of it was pretty evident stuff, it sort of fills you in on the legal part of medicine. Other than that, it would serve you well to keep up with medical issues in NZ (NZherald health section helps)

Yes, Cole's Medical Practice is quite useful, as is Good Medical Practice. Make up or search some ethical scenarios like abortion to think through and discuss.

Practice interview with friends.

But don't be too stressed for now. I started practicing for interview after I knew I got one.

yayyy! what did you get govpop?
I got an A and i'm really stoked with it hahaha thought i'd be getting a B

I got A+, which was surprising since I was pretty much just aiming for a pass.

Sometimes when I'm having trouble sleeping I play back the 106 lectures from my recorder- works like a charm.

Speaking of which does anybody know if there would be any gunner type biomeds willing to buy the complete set of MEDSCI lecture recordings for next year. I figured I might as well put them to good use. I could sell it as an 'absolute must if you want to get A+ in MEDSCI'

hiya

I'd advise against it because you could get held up by the university for breach of copyright and intellectual property (yes what they say in lectures is also covered by copyright.. lol)!! Probably not worth it for a couple of bucks. Same thing goes for people selling coursebooks and stuff online, the university is starting to crack down on it. Good luck for all the rest of your marks and the interview etc :)

just wondering - past 1st year students, from when did you start preparing for your interview?

there's about 2 weeks until the interviews take place, and i'm taking a 5 day holiday, would that be a bad idea? or is 10 or so days left after I come back sufficient?

thanks, i'm pretty paranoid about the whole interview thing since everyone's just been talking about how horrible it is...

and furthermore, could anyone give advice as to what to look at in terms of current NZ health issues, I mean, I've looked online at the MoH news website, but I mean, could any of this be asked in the interview?
