just wondering - past 1st year students, from when did you start preparing for your interview?

there's about 2 weeks until the interviews take place, and i'm taking a 5 day holiday, would that be a bad idea? or is 10 or so days left after I come back sufficient?

thanks, i'm pretty paranoid about the whole interview thing since everyone's just been talking about how horrible it is...

and furthermore, could anyone give advice as to what to look at in terms of current NZ health issues, I mean, I've looked online at the MoH news website, but I mean, could any of this be asked in the interview?

Definitely take the holiday. It's not like you'll be studying for an exam, there is actually not much you can do. I probably just did an hour or so each day for the week before. This just involved writing out/saying reasons why I wanted to do medicine, reading about some ethical issues (abortion, animal testing etc), and I read a book - they asked me "what book have you been reading", I answered it then they said "what book are you reading now" haha. Also, the book I read was "The old man and the sea", to which my interviewer asked "do you agree with the murdering of fish?". I quickly responded with a chuckle and a simple "yes, I catch and eat fish all the time". She smiled and we moved on.

Also I was asked "what is an important health issue in NZ". I talked about obesity. Awkwardly, I remembered that one of my interviewers was a heavily obese man and regretted my choice, but hey, it turned out fine in the end. The lady then asked me if I did my own shopping, and what was the price of milk. I said "sometimes, I do a bit of baking myself, but mum usually does the shopping". We both laughed.

Many simple and seemingly irrelevant questions like that were asked of me, to which I happily answered. So, if you think that you will need 10 days of solid study to answer those questions, then go for it, but I would say it is unnecessary. However, I would recommend knowing what the role of a Dr is, in the context of all the different health professionals, and why that is appealing to you.

Why is that?

dip is probably there lol
on a side note, the only preparation I did for mine was read my mH03 the night before. I didn't believe in extensive prep and I still don't. You should be mindful of things in the news and should learn to form an opinion on most subjects

what about core GPA and umat? what would be like a minimum safe core GPA and umat so that you could get in with say an average interview?

i heard minimum core was like 8.25 to get in but yeah would love other opinions

Sorry if this has been answered to death - but if final exam results are just starting to leak out now, when can we expect interview offers - next week? Do they send out rejection letters first? Do they email all the offers for all categories at once or phase them over days. What would be the approx. minimum time between notification of an interview and the interview itself (say it's on the 6th.....).

I'm pretty sure that these two questions have been asked and answered already but reading 202 pages is going to take a while so:
Does Auckland take your Best or your most recent results?
When the say they take 15% of your raw, do they take 15% of 56 or 15% of 189?

yeah, there's been some conjecture on this already BUT the most repeated idea you can find on pg 1.

It's likely they don't take 15% of any UMAT score. Instead your UMAT score (raw, weighted, overall) is given a 15% weighting in the overall application process. The question we've debated here is, using what scale do they translate your UMAT score or ranking?? into something they can multiply by 0.15???

usually you should get one week notice I believe.

To be a fly on the wall in your interview...haha.

hey everyone, I am an international student currently studying Biomedical science at Deakin University in Melbourne, and have just finished the first year. I’m seeking information about the process of enrollment in the MBChB program at Auckland University. I have been studying in Australia since 2007 and have completed year 10 through to year 12, and in terms of tertiary education, achieved a GPA of 6 of 7 across the first year of University this year. Since I fall under the international category, I would like to know of the procedure of application in my case in which the first year in Biomedical science be considered as an overlap year?
thanks heaps

No I believe you actually have to redo OLY1 at auckland university (i.e. the papers aren't transferrable) or finish your degree and apply as a graduate

tell me that you guys also got an email today requesting your MHO3 - even though I already submitted it a week before it was due?????
