Emerald - Can or should we be enrolling in classes? What would be the point - not like there's any choices/streams that you can actually pick are there?

I thought I read somewhere that this year would be the first year that students actually have to enrol themselves into MBChB courses - maybe because of the switch to SSO or something. I think I read that on these forums.. not sure now. But anyway there's still plenty of time to enrol!

In the information pack it said that details on how to enrol into MBChB II papers will be posted on the fmhs website on the 17th of January.

So there must be plenty of time

Hey all,

So I also got into 2nd year med and was just wondering your opinions.. Is AUMSA worth it? It seems like a lot of money and I am not sure of all the benefits other than just cheaper events...

P.S. I have been checking this forum for a little while but now just decided to post :)

Congrats and Welcome! thats one more MSO medic in the team (y)

whether to join AUMSA is largly dictated by whether you would fancy 'slightly' cheaper prices for ~monthly class events (thats as far as 2nd year goes anyway). I think in third year you can also get a discount when you sign up for their bulk stethoscope purchase, although im not sure if that is AUMSA-member exclusive.

While they sell themselves as a 'throughout med school' crew, im can't comment on how useful they are for 4,5 and 6th years. I've always seen them as a mostly for 2nd and 3rd year, although thats just a thought.

Its worth noting that there's no need to rush into registering. In fact in my year, i remember that during one of their presentations (medschool 101), they mentioned that a good number of people in my class didnt sign up yet.

Haha hopefully i win the lottery in the next five years

As for freshers- paid last week but still need to send the reply slip. i hope the weather stays good until then.

hahaha wouldn't that be nice

cool i'll see you there although i won't know who you are :)

Yuss finished enrolling ^_^

It was so much easier than last year don't you think? SSO is so much better than nDeva... lucky first years...

Btw, has anyone actually received any email confirming that they are now part of AUMSA? I sent in the money via cheque a few weeks ago, and the money has been withdrawn, but that's about it

I wish I could go to freshers  But I'll be overseas then

Hope I don't miss too much ;)

Yeah, SSO is way better than nDeva once you figure it out.

Hmm, I was kind of hoping that once I enrolled, I'd be able to see my timetable for the year, but some of the lecture times are "TBA" and then what's with the optional labs?? Where does that fit in?? So, yeah , it doesn't really tell me anything lol. Hopefullly it doesn't change too much, cos atm on fridays in the first semester I only have one lecture :) woot.

I still haven't payed for either AUMSA or freshers... I don't know if I"m gonna join AUMSA just yet.... but I'll def see you guys at freshers! Well some of you...

I think Bryony is a bit busy at the moment, but she'll probably send out an email before freshers to confirm aumsa memberships. :)
