I think the issue is that the GPA from the BSc isn't quite competitive enough? In which case OLY1 gives you a fresh start.

I think you would be eligible to do OLY1. Best to check with the uni though.

Really will you be allowed to do that? It's kind of unfair I think because the people who did OLY1 can't do HSFY yet people who did HSFY can do OLY1? I know a few people in my classes for stage 2 papers that did HSFY who are doing BSc ll.

my first degree was in physiology and now doing second BSc in microbiology.
as greenglacier said, my GPA from my first BSc isn't quite competitive enough so i wanted to start over again and get really good grades this time.
so i was wanting to know if i can apply with my second BSc GPA.

thanks for your reply and i'll try asking the admissions office :)

I can name two of them. I can also assure you that neither have done OLY1, the merely moved closer to home to complete their BSc.

Yes, regardless of whether you have no degree or a PhD in chemistry you can do OLY1

TBH HSFY at Otago is restricted to make it fairer on everybody; some fresher in OLY1 who has no knowledge of the subject matter might have to compete with a guy who has a science degree already so y'know it's all relative

No it's not the fact that someone who has a PhD in Chemistry can be allowed to do OLY1. However, someone who has already done 1 year of HSFY then comes up to restart their degree and not transfer to complete their medical science degree but to do OLY1 solely for the purpose of getting in via the undergraduate pathway was what i was hinting at. Not those with completed degrees from unrelated disciplines or non Biomedical Science degrees.

Panicking won't do you any good. It would only do you harm. I'm pretty sure you've guys have studied hard for this. My word of advice would be to do the things you feel that you can skim through like giving definitions and doing acid-base calculations. What I mean is if you can't do a spectroscopy question because you can't think quickly leave it aside and come back to it if you have time. It's better to get marks for things you know then spending on things you don't know and not sure that you'll get marks for it. Anyway all the best and aim to get at least over 80. That would put you in good stead for an A+/A for the final exam. ^_^

*panic*

Hey it was the same last year and in previous years as well. Last year the spectroscopy question was worth more as well.

Damn that spectroscopy question was a killer...

I thought this time they really made it tricky...I did run out of time for the spectroscopy one and realised the structure AFTER the test. Damn. -_-
By the way, Tupac4life , this year's one was worth 14 marks!!!

I'm glad i skipped the nmr question to finish the rest of the paper, i came back to it but couldn't finish it anyway. Hopefully everyone else didn't get it either ^_^
