I wasn't sure of the exact number so I was sort of close but yes the price seems to have increased but the spending of eighty thousand dollars on one's medical degree kind of makes $20 pale into insignificance ...

Of course. In the grand scheme of things, it isn't really anything to worry about.

plm8123 - You're welcome! (We're getting very few med students talk on this forum as of late; where have you guys all gone? XD

Everyone, BIOSCI 107 results are out!

Everyone, BIOSCI 107 results are out!

We're still here, just getting back on track after receiving some rather unpleasant test results ourselves :P

Hope you guys are satisfied with all your test marks, congrats if you did really well but don't worry too much if it doesn't seem like A+ material right now, just use it as impetus to study harder and evaulate how well your study methods/time management worked so far so you can see how you can study more effectively this half of the semester :)

Oh and personally I found the 2nd half of first sem quite enjoyable for 107 and 111, with some great lecturers for both, hopefully you guys will too because it'll make learning the concepts way easier. All the best anyways

@italianopalo - Thanks for imparting tidbits of wisdom =P

Ah yeah, how were your tests? At least 'test season' is over for now

Hmmm, yeah, most of my results gave me a definite shock to the system haha. Still holding out for 101 though, except, of course, it's non-core ><

Oh, a question: do the weighted marks we receive get scaled up? Say if I didn't get 90% overall for one of my papers, would that mean A+ would be ruled out straight away? (Don't know if this question has been answered before...but after receiving my 107 marks, I need a breather.)

Yup, fun in lectures = easier uni workload and thus life, in general.

[OFFTOPIC] Lol POM results back I'm guessing?! Fun times ;) [/OFFTOPIC]

Hopefully your final exam marks may/may not be scaled up to adjust for difficulty of the test/exam. So your test mark is not scaled per se, but it is in effect when they scale the exam mark. This pretty much only happens if there's an uneven distribution of marks/low/high averages i think

Hey,

How is everyone feeling about 107 results???? Med students ... what was the median etc for previous years? Looking at the results it looks like we have some low medians? 65.1%? Or is that about where it was for you guys also? CS&F section in particular median of 7.49/15 seems fairly low? I dont know about anyone else but I really struggled with the lecturer on that section.

Yup, my worst section was CS&F and i expected it...

Anyway, 101 marks are out and i really couldn't care less of what i got (a day and a half of cramming) (yy)

Thanks, 4everAlone ^_^
I suppose I shouldn't expect/rely on that anyway. But it is kind of nerve-wracking if you have to get, say, 100% on the second test to get up there haha XD
In your opinion, was the 2nd half of 107 easier/harder/more/less interesting? (Especially the neurons and excitable muscles sections? I had a look and they seem very exciting, but in comparison to the 1st half, I'd judge it to be trickier.

I found the second half of the semester to be heaps more interesting - and thus heaps easier! Everyone's different but I always find it much much easier to study something that's interesting than something that's not. I bombed out first test but did well enough second test to get a reasonably respectable overall mark.

Class average for our year was 66%

Oh, that's good to know. Yeah, I do think this half is more interesting as it progresses, which can only be a good thing! Our class average is ~65 once calculated, so it's lower. Hmm =/

107 better ALOT better than 101 how odd but also kinda thankful its not the other way round. My 101 mark makes me realise how easy it is to lose track and fall behind in what originally seemed like an easy subject, but then i suppose one day of cramming of 101 doesnt exactly constitute good study technique.
I was just wondering if we get any indication of one questions we got right in the MCQ components of both biosci papers? Like we did with Poplhlth? Thanks :)

@Hopefully I meant for this semester, we still have to keep up with all the previous lectures for chem and pophlth so that's a pain. And 101 is a pain as usual...

@Sophi at least we're given a few more days of cramming for the final 101 test (y) i think we have like 3 days after chem until 101.
And i think they said they'd give our scripts back if you go collect them at the bio building. Just wondering if they'll give the mcq script back as well.

The Bio department only gives you back your SAQ scripts, and you would have been allowed to take your MCQ question sheets from the test venues. FMHS does provide individual MCQ feedback for the papers they teach (poplhealth and medsci) though.

Hey all.. My Biosci 101 results were really shocking lol, but considering i crammed it for 1 1/2 days i should have expected it.. I heard the grade thresholds might be lower for A+ if the overall class average is really low? For the 2012 2nd year med students, were all your grade thresholds 90+ for A+ ?

Nogeat Oh really? I find that alright, since we basically build upon what we learnt so far in poplhlth, and I'm finding chem really interesting right now, though it seems to be similar to physics at the moment? Just a guess since I've not done it since year 10, haha. I can see where you're going, though, and sometimes I do prefer it like how the bioscis are =)

Worshipppp: Last year's grade boundaries for A+ (from what I remember) were:

101, 107, 111, 106 - 90%

110 and 160 were 85%

142 was stated as 90% but they scaled everyone up by several percent in the final exam, so the actual needed marks are possibly lower.
