plm8123 why are the A+ grade boundaries for 110 and 160 at 85? I thought all of the sciences were changed to 90 to make it more uniform across the whole uni? Is it because it is all relative depending on the cohort in that particular year?

Does anyone know if there are any model answers available for the CELS191 previous exams? I've looked around but can't find anything..

The HSFY thread might be more useful in this situation. :p

How many people get A+ for each of the core papers? and how many get A+ for all?
Yeah i was wondering that too, it was interesting to see with the stats for bio 107 test 1, that only around 50 people got over 90 and i cant imagine that many more people would have got very close to 90 either. The upper quartile by the looks of it was 80 or even slightly lower. Is this the same for test 1 for most years?

Nogeat: I don't know how many people got A+ for each of the cores, I don't think they released any numbers after the final exams. I know three people in my class this year who got A+ for all 8 papers in OLY1 biomed. I also know another three got A+ over 7 papers. Cores only, I know 10 people got A+, but I'm sure there'll be 20 to 30 who managed this, and plenty more who had a core GPA of 8.75 or 8.5.

Hopefully: It looked like all of the BIOSCI and FMHS (POPLHLTH and MEDSCI) papers had a cutoff of 90 and the CHEM and PHYSICS were at 85. Possibly because non-OLY1 students make up a significant proportion of those doing the CHEM and PHYSICS papers?

I remember being told something along the lines of only 35-40 people get A+ in poplhlth, which means a maximum of 35-40 people get straight A+'s for cores (probably less than this though!!).

Like plm8123 said, plenty more people get an 8.75-8.5 GPA.

4everAlone that's strange...why would it only be 35-40 people getting A+ in POPLHLTH? I thought that ~10% of the total number of people can achieve this under normal circumstances.

In all honesty I'm not sure. I just remember being told that. It may have had something to do with it having a 90% A+ threshold in our year (when the others were 85%) but I honestly don't know

Oh, well, thanks anyway. We haven't been told this this year so I think that it may be different now. In the end, it isn't really a big issue; that's kind of arbitrary to worry about anyway :p

How's your semester been so far?

Yeah exactly...no need to worry about it!

[offtopic] Semester's been pretty good thanks ae, a little less stressed and the papers are waaaayyyy more interesting than last year (in my opinion!). Plus the social scene has been pretty active ;) How you finding first year? Not totally over it just yet? [/offtopic]

[OFFTOPIC]Heh, what social scene? Hmm, that reminds me, is Medstein any good? I didn't go last time around.
I'm thinking that I really need to catch up on life in general after this year! Having said that though, first year is awesome, and still going strong haha. How could I be totally over it? :p Well, we gotta do what we gotta do. ;)[/OFFTOPIC]

Pretty sure everyone finds test 2 a lot easier...the class average was A LOT higher in my year (33/40 vs 17/30). It may seem like more memorising, but the questions are a lot simpler. A lot of them are almost common sense even.

[offtopic] Medstein is definitely worth going to...it was an awesome night! Don't know if they're having another (I think they are?!) but if they do you should go!

P.s What's your exam timetable like this semester?
[/offtopic]

Oh wow, that's a BIG improvement from test 1 to test 2!
Hmm, I sure hope so. Did you do the required readings for Module 2 and 3 back then?
[OFFTOPIC]
Haha, it sounds good! If it isn't organised at an inconvenient time, I'll definitely come check it out ^_^ But I don't really drink at all. Alcohol and I seem to have a love-hate relationship... >.<

Exam timetable's pretty spread out (yy)
Got poplhlth on the 7th, 107 on the 12th followed by chem on the 13th, then 101 on the 16th. Looks good, aye? [/OFFTOPIC]

hey guys

i'm currently studying at otago and i don't really know anything about auckland uni med school entry system.
i remember reading somewhere that you can do OLY1 or whatever it's called... (i actually have no idea what it is but i'm guessing it's equivalent to HSFY at otago?)at the University of Auckland regardless of whether you have BSc degree or ten PhD's. is this true??

i applied for met at otago via HSFY and competitive category after BSc but didn't get in :(
am i still eligible to do OLY1 at AU?

Hey squidville,

What are you studying at Otago Uni at the moment?

From your post, I gather that you have completed a degree before so you should be eligible for graduate entry to the MBChB programme. Here's a link to the Auckland Uni entry requirements for medicine. Look under Application Categories > Graduate Entry.

On the other hand, if you have already tried the uni website for information, then how about browsing the threads in NZ Graduate Entry on MSO? Hope that helps...I'm not actually too familiar with the intricacies of applying via graduate entry. Maybe some of the other MSOers who have or are in the process of applying can tell you more about it? :)

You're right; it's called OLY1, but I think that for some degrees which have already covered the basics of OLY1, like your BSc, you do not need to complete OLY1 before entering med, if you gain entry :D. It just allows the people coming from a background other than science to also be able to apply. You should probably to be able to enter med straight away once you are accepted. If you want to know more about that, just emailing or calling up the admissions office will help. Their email is [email protected]

I wish you all the best! :D Ask around a bit more on this website and I'm sure someone will know haha ;)

[OFFTOPIC]Hope the hyperlinks work. It's my first time using them :p[/OFFTOPIC]
