Hey Leafie. Here's some advice on pophlth though I'm not as good as toaster at pophlth but at least i got A+ in the end.

Generally for pophlth you gotta be really careful. I got 2 wrong in first and second test and calculated that I needed like 90% in final exam to get A+. The thing is, the test and exam gives you much more time than you need to complete it. I remember it only took me half the time to finish the tests and used the other half to "super-check" my answers. So don't race through the questions, check carefully, think about it, read the paragraph and all the options. Obviously don't make too much fuss over 1 question.

Rod will release "sample questions" which DOES NOT reflect the difficulty of the test, so be careful about that.

The concepts in module 1 is actually very easy.Rod wants you to think about how to use it and some questions would seem unexpected. But if you just calm down and think about it, i'm sure you'll be fine. From what I remember, he doesn't try to trick you but a lot of people tricked themselves by overthinking it.

Good luck.

Done the test! Strange it ended up with only 14 questions in total. They made a mistake somewhere and had to cut off 6 questions. Which means that each question counts for more:(

Yeah...1wrong=A+, 2 wrong=A, and 3wrong=B+!!!
I thought the test itself was Ok-ish. I found the questions related to the stuffs we learned from lectures or in the GATE notes were pretty straightforward. But they put like, 4 or 5 questions from on the 2-hour tutorial (which i only spent 30mins had a brief scan through). That was tricky! They ask things like what is FALSE about death certifacate and give us a list that all sounded pretty true. The first thing i did after the test was to read all about the death certifacate and the guess i made in the test was actually correct lol. Since they messed up those 6 questions they put up a plussage system so people can get the best out of either the test or the final exam.

Has anyone found it more difficult to get motivated to do study, when you're no longer fueled by your desperation to get into med? Or maybe I'm just lazy...

Last year, the BIOSCI107 test was relatively straight forward, compared to the poplhlth111 test, you just got to know your content. Remember to learn your labs too, because there will be questions about them, I think, and its easy to forget about them when your immersed in the lectures.

the urge to study will come back when you realise how little musculoskeletal you know and how much can be examined in the first test :p

I'm surprised at how much I still remember. In orthopedics i'm recalling all my 2nd year material + more. Clinical medicine is great :P

Yeah especially when you don't even have to pass your tests :/ They say you should be motivated because you want to be a good doctor, but actually working with patients is still something that's too far away to really motivate you.

It is pretty hard to stay motivated if your focus is on marks. You're actually less than two years away from regular contact with patients Skyglow and even 5 years will fly past very quickly. All of sudden you'll be on the ward and realise you could've made your life a lot easier by doing a little more work in your degree - well that was how I felt and I was an A student lol.

I'm normally very motivated when marks are involved and tests actually count, especially when HSFY tests counted towards med entrance. It's not a good thing, but I did keep me going like for toaster.

I'm well aware that when you put things into perspective, patient contact is not far away at all. I guess I feel that it's a bit unfair if med school expects students to be motivated when alot of us have had any sort of patient contact before. Having worked in a clinical setting it's much easier for you to appreciate the importance of working hard now and how it will pay off later. You know of the benefits first hand.

Haha, sorry but it's kinda funny when you guys all talk about the lack of motivation. I had a look at the past biosci107 test papers on Cecil today. Man can't answer most questions!!! I felt like i've learned everything but still don't know anything. Do they really expect us to know that much details?? Anyway i'm sooo dead! And you guys are talking about MOTIVATION. Why life is so unfair?!

Yea leafie, the past tests are very good indication of the details u gotta know.

Hey toaster... I know what you mean. Another problem I'm having is, i think i'm still in holiday mode or something. After studying for the 205 test, I keep forgetting bits and pieces from what I read earlier -_-.

The desire to not epically fail the first med test, is sorta getting me back into the study now, though its still slow going. I keep forgetting things too, but I thinks thats more because of the massive amount of rote learned information. Its much easier to remember concepts than a collection of facts I find.

I'm soooo behind on musculoskeletal though...sigh...guess what my midsemester break is going to be spent doing then...

Hey gigaoblivion, do you reckon we've actually met at uni, but just have not realised who is who off mso? That would be quite funny...
