Whoa intense? Is it a westlaker?

I believe they can look at his previous subjects and of course his lab/test marks and based on that they give a similar grade

I actually quite liked the Malpas questions, and as for the lungs, apparently many people didn't like them, so hopefully everyone is in the same boat...reproduction on the other hand is a completely different story. I totally missed that section asked, i thought they'd give us a diagrame but word for word blanks. At least its all over now, only the interviews to go. So lets pray our Medsci marks can get us all into the interview!

I'm sorry your friend has his head x-rayed. Not trying to be rude, but when they put Medsci right after Biosci that just trying to screw everyone over. My brain is fried raw, and if test marks (which we set right after a 2-week holiday )can substitute the marks for the kind of sh** i've been through yesterday and today, then i don't think anyone deserves anything. Not trying to be unsympathetic, but Med is ruthless business.

hmm, i dont know, i think the test is a good indicator of the student's capability. i doubt that they're award a student a grade which s/he doesnt deserve, and i think that anyone in their right mind would preferably do the exam than not do it and seek the compassionate compensation. Either way, lets focus on whats ahead of us. Honestly i cant say that i'm any more relaxed than i was yesterday, the interview has been on my mind lately and i just so hate the idea of it.. aw well.

Good luck with the remainder of the exams guys

Mm, i get where you're coming from, but i guess its just because you dont know the guy. He wouldnt be doing this to get a free ride. He's quite sure he'll just get a C grade aegrotat pass, which i've been convincing him is definitely not what he should accept. He worked hard up to the day so I reckon he deserves to get the grade he would have got if he sat it. Some things are unfair but just imagine if you were in his position, vomiting, blurry vision, migraines on the morning of the test. You'd want the same eh, even if others think its unfair.

Please correct me if I'm wrong. Firstly I don't know if he's doing Biomed or Health Science because if he's doing Biomed which means he would have to take Biosci106 yesterday. If he went to the Biosci106 exam yesterday and becomes so sick today that he can't take the Medsci exam, then this is probably due to stress or over-work/lack of sleep. And from the symptoms you described they can be easily coming from stress, eating disorder or irregular sleeping patterns, in other words, bad time management and bad stress management. Believe it or not, i've seen people so stressed about exams that they don't sleep whole night before exam and was vomiting the next morning. And since an important quality of a doctor is to manage stress, so if he can't even cope with an exam, then i honestly doubt Med is the thing for him. Also, if he can get a grade of A or even a B+ (which i seriously doubt the uni would give without any real clinical comfirmation), then that means he can spend sooooo much more time on other subjects, especially if he is also taking Chem110 this semester. This is a risk that i personally wouldn't take but that doesn;t mean nobody is doing it. 3A+ and a B+ can comfortably get him to the interview and probably Med. Of course there is also a possibility that he was sick all these days and missed out both or all his exams due to unexpected physiological conditions (eg a brain tumour or an accident), then it's a different matter. Nevertheless you are right and i don't know him. So maybe the Medsci staff (Collin?) finds him such a lovely person and decide to give him an A

You could also say that being empathetic is an important quality of a doctor, in which I case I doubt Med is the thing for you.

See how ridiculous it is to pass judgement like that?

And not sure why you'd even comment on things like stress when you aren't certain of what the cause is at all.

In my honest opinion, if there was any student at auckland uni that deserved to get in its him. You cant understand the dedication he has to Medicine. He's been going back pretty much every holiday to Tonga to help out churches there and to help as much as he can in the hospitals. Hes witnessed countless operations, procedures etc. If it is stress, its because this may be his only opportunity to get into med, which in itself is quite a weight for someone who is so passionate and determined to undertake this pathway. I find that completely reasonable for the stress of these exams to affect him so much worse than a lot of us. I'll have to wait to see what is the actual cause. i dont want to argue about whether he does deserve it or not, but just wanted to get any information that could help him. If you believe he doesnt deserve this chance then you dont have to help =) just dont pass unfair judgements on him.

o and 3 westlakers on here =] me red and dip. Oh and Willy, its Paul Kim =/

Lol like I said, these are possibilities, I'm not assuming he is trying to cheat the system. I don't know about Otago, but here in Auckland there are people like that. Like today there was a fire alarm in the middle of the Medsci exam. When we were out i saw someone got his medsci book out and STARTED READING, the examiner saw it but did nothing. Not to mention the people exchanging answers. The medsci marks are scaled, a few marks down can cause a person's carreer. Here I'm not passing judgements.

But I appreciate for your advice. Empathy is important. I will work on that and being realistic.

Best luck for your exams^_^

argh, thats so frustrating.. But i guess if they were willing to risk their exam being voided to cheat they cant have been doing that well anyway (i hope). That alarm fully destroyed my concentration i had going =( hope we get scaled up since other groups didnt get kicked out for 20 minutes. Mm was hoping to see if anyone had had experience in the matter. thanks anyway.
