lol from what i heard when i was speaking to the med students before my interview, it lasts for i think 2 days (?) and it's going to be on motutapu island this year. and i also heard a funny story about a prank where this guy's mattress was pulled out onto the lawn and he never realised until he woke up...hopefully i won't embarass myself as horribly as i have in past camps...cue memories of kayaks, and repeated slams into many rocky surfaces..shudder. that being said, i have no idea what happens at the camp.

lol its on motutapu. I had something similar done to me. I was tired that night and basically turned out the lights to sleep. Then some dorkheads hauled my sleeping bag with me in it and dumped me out onto the porch (not the lawn unless this was ANOTHER story). Needless to say I wasn't too happy. I know who it was and I wish that person had some decency to find a way to have fun without it being the expense of someone else. I suppose I woke up as soon as I was hauled up, better than waking up on the lawn

It seems funny on the outside. But it wasn't very funny for me, that ruined the first night of freshers for me. I wish some of the people in my class could be a bit better than drinking baboons.

Either way its 3 days on motutapu, more information in the letters sent out

Does anyone know how many people get waitlisted at Auckland? And around how many out of that actually get in?

you are in my class aren't you Aesir lol
I can name 3 in our class that got in on the waitlist. Maybe there are more?

lol omg it must be you because the person i talked to got in last year as well. i am so sorry. although i must say, that's somewhat preferable to what happened to me at the last camp i went to..hint:it included paranoia about missing/disappearing knives, sleep-talking, and certain remarks which were so so badly timed, they were perfect. Anyhow. When do the waitlisted people get to know? and i must be at a huge disadvantage because i don't drink.

well I don't know if there was a matress on the lawn. I was a sleeping bag dumped on the porch story. I'm pretty much over it but yeah I think the baboons shouldn't have tried to ruin my weekend, kinda selfish of them. We are all trying to enjoy ourselves come on sheesh

Don't worry if you don't drink. I don't either, quite a few don't. It's just that there are people that drink alcohol like its water. we supposedly got banned from the camp we went to last year because of all the alcohol and all the idiotic things the baboons did like drawing phallic images on the grass with milk powder that didn't wash off the next day

Haha I am in your class, just wondering cos someone I know got waitlisted and wasn't sure what the deal was. So they'd have a rank in the waitlist ay and then go through the list if places become available?

i must be at a huge disadvantage because i don't drink.

Not at all! You'll find out when you get to Fresher's you'll immediately split into three main groups : the group that LG described that are pretty much drunk the whole three days...the sober ones...and an in between group that has a couple of drinks and associates with both the above groups...lol guess that's a huge oversimplification but its surprising to see how a lot of the groups formed at that camp are still together after a whole year!

And I assure you you will still have an awesome time even if you don't drink, plus you'll remember everything the next day :P

And Congratz to everyone who got in! :)

lol planned activities, yeah right. It's mainly drinking talking drinking talking and more drinking. Only thing that is planned is rural olympics on the saturday and that is very awesome. It's like a great time to get hands on, dirty and maybe hit some people you don't like

Yeah well I'd love to know where I am on the waitlist - I guess top 5 would be a good place. I hope they don't let me know too late, as I have to decide on Otago soon.

You will be waiting a while. Uni is off for two weeks. Also the 3 I know on the waitlist got their offers the week before uni started. Best to accept the otago one now and wait on auckland. You can subsequently cancel the otago offer and accept auckland should it pop up

True true. My main prob I have with waiting so long is not accepting the Otago offer, but sorting out where I will be living next year!! Oh well, I'm just happy to be in somewhere :D

well once uni opens again in 2 weeks you can try calling admissions and asking. My friend was first on the waitlist and got an offer the thursday before freshers camp, so it's a while away. But it's possible ^^; I look forward to seeing you at Auckland if you get a place!

WOW that is very short notice haha :P Thanks, hope I do as well. But I'm sure whatever happens it'll all work out. I'll get the same outcome wherever I go so can't complain. Have a nice holiday.

Thanks for the words of congratulations guys.

I've been yearning for med for 2 years now, and i see this as the beginning of an exciting new chapter in my life. I would like to thankyou everyone who has been on MSO for the last couple of years, this site truly is an amazing resource to have for keen medical students. Futhermore, the support and good advice that everyone provides is an essential key to this i think and is something that i also greatly admire about this site.

I can honestly say that i'm looking forward to being a more active member, even though i have been here for so long, i never really got as involved as i would have liked (eg: my low post count), purely for the reason that i felt somewhat detached from other members due to not being in med. Med II here we come!

Wishing everyone here a merry christmas, safe new year and all the best for the applicants for 2008!

Sav

Try not to destroy your liver jubes or else you won't make it back here in one piece :p

Hey guys I just found out I got in today under grad entry. But... I have some good news for those on the waiting list.... I'm going to be declining my offer as soon as I have the written offer from Flinders University in Adelaide (just to be safe). So as soon as the AUckland staff get back from their christmas break one of those people will have a nice surprise! Congrats to everyone who got in and to any undergrads who didn't get in- there are so many options for grad entry so you will definitely get there one day if you want it :)
