@vamsiaus : For my general ed, i took econ, but i hear from friends that philosophy wasnt too bad either. Something about tests being open book, and no final exam (?) Something along those lines anyway.

[offtopic]Lol. thanks g.walker. and yeah, i made my own. Finally committed to MSO and uploaded an avatar and userbar. Horray for wasting your bandwidth. ^_^

I did SCIGEN101G, got a B in it (lowest mark in year 1 after an A-). It was kinda fun really but you've gotta attend the classes. Just remember that the gen ed paper is not essential for your purposes so go with something you're comfortable with.

HISTORY 103G is pretty decent, two lecs per week and 1 tutorial (attend 8 out of 11 for plussage) with 2 Cecil quizzes, one essay and the final exam making up the coursework. It covers 600 years of history in a rather broad overview so interesting things do pop up.

I got an A with cramming a day and a half before the final exam. (yy)

Does anyone know where exactly Orientation tomorrow starts from? Somewhere on the Grafton Campus, but I've never been there and have no clue where to go.

Its directly opposite to auckland hospital. You can take The Link from the city, just make sure youre on the right side of the road, otherwise itll take you 40minutes instead of the usual 5 (happened to me last year)

Hey guys

O-week was great!! Uni is so awesome :) I just have a few questions for lectures starting next week:

Is it necessary/worthwhile to record lectures using voice recorder?

For all the courses, will the full lecture slides be provided online? If so, that means we don't have to copy anything down from the slides in any lecture, just what the lecturer is actually saying?

Thanks guys :) I wonder if I actually met/saw any of you guys in person at the orientation bbq today lol

The slides will be provided on cecil (unless stated otherwise somewhere or the lecturer told you)

Recording is at your discretion, personally I just read the textbook if something didn't make sense

Hey 2nd yr Biomed/Med. students..

I was flickin thru the POPL HLTH pages on CECIL and it said that the mid-semester test is on the 31st March and on another page, the 31st of April...When did u guys do it last year?..it seems strange..coz none of the other papers hv exams scheduled until after the mid semester break

Thnx...

POPLHLTH and CHEM have 2 tests within each midsemester. The dates above are probably both correct.

Be very cautious of the first pophlth test; it is very difficult and the 'pracftice' test that they put up on cecil is very misleading with regard to the difficulty. Last year our class average was 8.15/15 (still remember that horrific figure) for that one

1) if the lecture put you to sleep the first time, it will put you to sleep the 2nd time.

2) in first year all courses will provide lecture slides online. However some lecturers have rather blank and uninformative slaides

Our test was out of 14 and the average was 8.04 ^_^ i just checked cecil.

Hey..so when u mean hard..were the questions real screwed up? or did the test require u to recall lots of info..

Haha..not lookin forward to POPL HLTH..ive almost been brainwashed by mso that it is the crappiest biomed paper and hardest to do well in lol

thnx for ur speedy responses guys!

Naa there wasn't alot of info, but I just managed to finish the 14 MCQs in the 1 hour provided, I just wonder what wouldve happened if they had not cancelled the other 6 questions. I found the questions to be confusing and alot of them were significantly long for MCQ style

As an educated guess, I'd say its the paper that you'll do the worst in for the entirety of OLY1 (sure was for me and alot of other friends), so dont worry all that much about it if it doesnt work out well

Hey, it's mainly hard because you need really practice your reasoning and logic to be able to do well in it. Rod Jackson really leads you to underestimate the test but definitely dont, its a LOT more complicated than he leads you to believe.

hey guys, regarding this paper, I heard that memorising slide notes will largely help you do will in this paper. Is this true? Any Advice?

Cheers :)
