Bond Med 2018 Discussion

Hi, yeah this was lingering in my mind for a while even during the application process for Bond. This was going to be the last stint in Australia as my parents wanted me to study here as we already got my elder bro out there doing his final year UK program MBBS (Hons). That was his decision to move out of the country to explore as he is very versatile with Comp applications and published a few apps in ios apple/ android google systems already for the UK universities as a Med student. He has got some nice (dangerous !!!) combinations of Medicine and App development capabilities. Surely he will settle in the US in the future. Not me.

Graduate entry??? I am 17 although I completed 5 subjects as a gifted and talented student (GAT) at the University arranged by my school from Year 8 onwards, Biological and Human sciences related courses. This helped in my admission process in the UK with a great recco from the university professor. Nothing of which worked here in Australia in Med admissions for me although I took all Science subjects, Extension English and Extension 2 Maths with a reasonably good ATAR of 99.20 (although not very high). I am happy to face whatever happens and content with what I have now. As previously said, UMAT is on my radar for this year as I missed JMP entry by one mark in Section 1 and did not make it in UNSW although I went for the interview. I should have concentrated more on UMAT than my Uni courses (GAT) and harder subjects in Y12. Maybe!!!

Indeed, I assumed staying near your parents might’ve prompted your application for Bond.
Your brother sounds like he’s got a good handle on things, good on him honestly!
It’s hard enough getting through a medical degree let alone participating in extracurricular activities! Haha, I’ve watched my brothers and relatives get through medical degrees also.

In my opinion it’s much easier to get through the GAMSAT pathway vs. undergraduate with the UMAT.
Selection process in Australia for medical degrees needs reforming! It’s absurd!

In regards to the graduate entry I was referring to undertaking a health sciences degree followed by graduate entry. Most people I know took this pathway not only to prepare themselves for a medical career but also to establish their basic sciences knowledge firm in the ground.
Well either way, I’m sure whichever decision you decide to make will be what’s best for you! Wether it’d be here in Straya or elsewhere! ;)

Unfortunately, my QTAC status has changed to "No - you were not selected for an interview." Looks like I'm not even on the waiting list :( I'm just going to have to apply again next year. Goodluck to all who got an interview offer! You'll smash it!
So sorry to hear that :( If you don't mind me asking, are you a graduate applicant?

Sorry to hear the status change in the interview offer to negative. Did it change from being on the wait list to No? Although there is a waiting list, the end of interview offer is just delayed, that's all in my opinion. I am in the waiting lounge too but have no hope of making it anyway. I note that you are probably the youngest in this cohort as I am also 17. Good luck with your studies/work/ Gap year whatever you do next year and hope you succeed next time around.

It seems from MM2000 posting that applicants have been notified as "Not selected for interview" already. With close to 250 Offers sent out for Interview, do anyone enquire about the number of waitlisted applicants? It should be relatively low as I don't think many would decline the interview offer. Is there a time frame by which they need to accept the interview offer?

yes have to accept by end of tomorrow i think.. i might have to decline interview offer now because my parents won't let me get a loan and want me to sit umat again this yr and try to get in as non-standard undergrad.. starting bachelor of medical research at UTAS so am just hoping i do good enough to get into UTAS Med but dont think i will stand a chance...

I have spoken to Bond and can confirm that all interview invites have gone out. Declines have also been sent out. Second round offers will take place after Wednesday (the due date for first round offer confirmation) and may continue til Friday.

This has been the impediment for many as not all have the monetary power to sustain a $500K loan (for Interstate including accommodation) at the end of the program. I also got into UTAS BMed Research but I have not enrolled in it yet as I have other offers from the UK. My UMAT score was 178 so I just missed their cut off of 180 even then it would not have been enough as they do not consider ATAR after 95.0 as mine was 99.20. so my next move would be to take UMAT again as a Gap year student and try for JMP, WSU, UTAS (may be). Good luck.

Thanks. Would the second round offer be for the waitlisted candidates? Declines sent out via e-mail or through QTAC?

QTAC will show a declined offer. Pending implies that you may (or may not) be on the second round waiting list. However, Bond will not give any indication of how many people have pending statuses. Good luck.

QTAC has also changed my full status to "Not Satisfied" and under the more information tab, "
No - you were not selected for an interview." Feels bad :(, guess it's to try again next year.
Good luck to everyone who received an interview!
Best of luck next year for anyone in the same boat as I am!

This may not be the perfect forum to ask this, but would any of the current Bond Medical Students have an idea as to what the pre-clinical years (1-3) entail in terms of subjects exactly?

Cool.. so did you and everyone else pay the rest upfront?

Hi, I am a current 2nd year student at Bond Med. It depends what you want to do. For me I used FEE HELP during the first semester because I thought it would be a hassle with enrolment (but it actually wasn't). And after that I have been paying the fees upfront before the start of each semester. But I have some friends who have been using FEE HELP in undergrad due to personal reasons.

thanks for the reply, so how much is it normally each semester? is it your savings or fortunately from your families income? thank you :)

Bond Med is actually a bit different. We don't have seperate subjects. So each week we have a PBL case and the weekly learning content is related to that case. So the subjects are integrated into the learning content.

So each semester in 2018 is going to around $27 000 for me. But they review the fees at the end of each and usually it increases by around $1000 per semester for the next year. And I was straight from high school when I got an offer so I didn't have any saving. So it is coming from my family's income.
yeah cool thank you:)

Thanks for the reply, so say if someone asked me what the course outline is, could I say that every week students learn new content through PBL cases, or would I also be able to state what content the students learn for each year?

Hi
May I ask those who have received an interview offer?
Do you need to accept or decline the offer?
If so
1) Do you just reply to the email or click on a link to accept or decline?
2) What is the time frame to do it? eg within two days or three days?

Thanks.

Yes, you have to click on a link to accept/decline within two days ie. by 21 Feb for me
They will also send a confirmation email to confirm that they have received your response!
