Bond Med 2018 Discussion

You seem to be unclear of your own situation. If the above is true why did you not only apply to Bond this year but also rue not getting an interview - is it because you would be able to afford this year but not next year?
sorry A1, and firstly thanks for your advice many times in this forum. I was short-sighted and did not put all cards in the place including family situation and financials in the equation. It may not be possible next year, because of the fact that my dad's position with Job is under the hammer and they have told him about the probable exit date and this puts a big blow...for even thinking of BOND. This happened very recently and I was already thinking about this what would happen if I even get to the interview and offer stage...It did not happen and so I may have to erase Bond from my equation for a future entry. I think, I am clear about my intentions now. First, try and get better scores in UMAT in July 2018 else commence MBBS with the current offers from overseas. btw, please advise if there is a structured pathway for accrediting IMGs through AMC and subsequent registration with MBA, why there is a fear created that all IMGs will end up with no job placement at all...by many. I will find a placement somehow even if there is a long wait (one plus years) and if I come back to Australia. The plans could change and divert me to the US... through ECFMG accreditation if I get a good score in USMLE Step 1 first. that will happen after finish basic sciences in MBBS and in the fourth year during Clinical Sciences. Too much in my mind now, but that's not wrong I hope. All could change if I get slightly better scores in the UMAT next time. Cheers.

If I come back to Australia soon after graduation, there may be a long wait for job placement as advised to me now by the IMG placement unit, but they also told me that the chance to get placement is not ZERO unless Australia shuts the door for all IMGs..... I am prepared to try and wait until the placement comes along...that's the aim for now.
It's great that you are getting information about the possible pathways and probabilities. Were you able to get some info on what "not zero" and how long the wait or a position might be? At the extreme... a 1% chance and a position after 10 years satisfy these criteria. Perhaps your contacts can give you some realistic estimates.

Good luck with the UMAT in 2018. There are many that have improved their scores; and many that have not.

re your "fear" comment, there is a concern that local grads might not be able to secure intern positions in the future. This has not yet happened but many knowledgeable people have the concern. IMGs would be a lower priority to secure internships or other positions than local grads.

On the other hand, if you take up a place in the UK, you might find that this is your new home and that they whole discussion about return to oz is moot.

Sorry to hear about your Dad's situation. It is very difficult when this happens.

Best wishes with your decisions and gettign all of the information you can to help you decide what is bets for you.

Thanks a lot. Much appreciated.

ahhh ok so technically they will still count my atar next year when giving out psychometric test (rip). if thats the case what kind of gpa would i need in order to raise my atar to get a psychometric test year?

With your 95.90, you will need a GPA of around 6.3 to be invited to the psychometric test.

Hey everyone,

To my understanding, one needs a GPA of 6+ to get invited for the Psychometric Test. After one sits the Psychometric Test, they give interview offers based on your performance in the Psychometric Test. However, in the overall offer, does the GPA have any weighting? Or is it just how well you do in the Paychometric Test and Interview?

I wish it were just the Interview with perhaps the Pyschometric as I think those may be my strengths! To my understanding this year it will be largely based on interview score with a small factor of the GPA/Atar weighing in (e.g a 95% and 5% balance) - I don't have official confirmation of this. But either way geez the idea of actually getting in to study Medicine and be a doctor sure is nice!

I got told on the day that the interview is the sole determinant for an offer into the Medical Program

well.. although my family will shortly start receiving a greater income, at this moment in time I'm unable to start at bond... so I have emailed to cancel my interview.. cried a few times after knowing I had to turn it down.. but hopefully i do much better in UMAT and get in elsewhere at the end of this year...

Good luck to those on the waiting list as I have just made one more offer available.
I am an interstate non-rural applicant if that is of your concern.
Hope those who get in have a great time at bond and find the money to pay for it...

Cat

Sorry to hear that you have to turn down the interview offer under such circumstance. Hopefully one deserving applicant would be able to pick up this rare opportunity.

Did you email Bond or QTAC for that?

Didn't get the "interstate non-rural applicant " part.....

thank you,
Bond university
i said that just incase they have separate lists for applicants from rural/non-rural and interstate applicants

What a tough decision :( Wish you all the best and hope that this only strengthens your desire for success - whatever your interpretation of success is.
All the best

Oh I see. I thought they only separate undergrad and post grad applicants but I don't know the details. I gather you are undergrad applicant from your posting.

So sorry to hear that, what a tough decision. But keep in mind, you did well enough to get to the interview part, that tells me that you may be able to get in through UMAT or post grad pathway. From what I have read on this forum, there can be many hardships along the journey of becoming a doctor....stay strong and I am sure you will find the right path that brings you success and happiness.

Thank you B2. One thing I did notice this year is that I don't believe that the psychometric test was the only tool used for giving an interview. I believe that they use results from the psychometric test aswell as the significant proportion of the academic results when giving out the interview.

To clear up any misinformation once again. Interview offers were based solely on psychometric performance, and place offers (as they have been every year) will be based solely on interview performance. These facts are not up for debate
