Bond Bond Medicine: General Discussion

Due to my low UCAT score, I was unable to gain myself an interview from the medical schools I applied for. Hence, the only way of pursuing my goal is to apply for medical schools that only considers your ATAR. One of my options for this is Bond University.

However, I am worried about the prejudice against Bond medical graduates that they 'paid' their way to become a doctor despite having a 'low' performance in high school. Would going to Bond university serve as a detriment in attaining a specialist position in the future or is there any discrimination towards Bond graduates compared to those of other public medical/prestigious schools (CSP) in the workforce?

Thank you :)

No, if you get an internship* you are treated on the same level as anyone else. Frankly, no one gives a rats ass what uni you go to, and if they did, I wouldn't want to work around these people anyways.

*Technically FFP graduates arent guarenteed internships, but the honest probability of a Bond student missing out on one is very low

Nobody cares. It's a non-issue.

However, applying for med schools that only consider your ATAR is not "the only way" of getting into medicine - I'd suggest casting your net a little wider.

I know there are other pathways such as graduate entry and non-standard entry. However, I want to apply through the high school leaver pathway and I haven't done chem so I'm not eligible for JCU either. Please correct if I have any misconceptions or if you recommend any other pathways.

I would recommend not throwing the baby out with the bathwater. Graduate and non-standard entry are perfect viable and reasonable options that you shouldn't be discounting, particularly if you're considering paying upfront fees just so you can apply as a school leaver.

I feel that you are not in extreme favour of Bond med school - if this is the case can I please know the reason why? I am considering non-standard and graduate as my final back-up.

She's not in extreme disfavour at Bond she's just told you to cast your net a little further before you start dredging over not getting into your 'only way at pursuing your goal'

This. I don't think it's particularly surprising or controversial to have someone suggest that entertaining other, much more cheap options is something you should consider, rather than gunning for school leaver entry only at all costs.

If you're able to (or your parents are able to) pay for the a Bond FFP, then of course you should take the offer, as declining it, even when you are comfortable financially paying for it, would just be a plain stupid decision. There is no reason to reject a Bond offer if you get one if you are financially able to pay for it due to the 'guarantee' and 'security' it gives for you becoming a doctor straight after high school. It is different however, if you are really struggling to get the required fees for Bond, and you do end up getting an offer, you should also be considering the non-standard and post-grad route for CSP places - albeit they are more competitive.

I agree with this too.

Isn't there a loan you can take out for the fees, if so, does anyone know the amount? Thanks
FEE-HELP is maximum 150k loan for medical students. If you go to Bond that leaves another ~250k that you’ll have to pay up front throughout the degree.

Hi
when does bonds medicine program open in qtac, i cant seem to add it to my preference list yet
I think there was some sort of glitch, I was able to add it before but I cant add it anymore now either. They usually open it up in about late Jan early Feb I think. Not 100% sure though maybe someone can confirm?

Yep, spot on, it will open as a preference after QTAC's main January offer round.

Hi! I am new to this forum and I am interested in applying to Bond. I am from QLD, non rural, btw and in Year 12 this year.
I just have some questions regarding Bond that I hope someone can answer (sorry if they've already been answered!)

1. I know that invites are released in Feb to do the psychometric test and the academic term starts in May and all that, but I have applied for JCU Medicine (which is currently my top preference) and I hope I do get a second-round interview but I've read on this forum that Bond needs to be as your first preference...I am really really stumped on what to do.

I also read here that to be considered for a second round offer for JCU, your ATAR needs to be higher than your predicted ATAR... now my predicted ATAR was a 99 and by the looks of how I am doing in my exams, I doubt I would get a 99+ so...on the basis of that, should I change JCU as my second preference when I get my ATAR and then place Bond as my top? And would that affect my chance in getting a second round offer for JCU (like placing it as my 2nd preference and getting a lower atar than my predicted which is still higher than 96)

2. Now, I also want to do Economics and Finance at UQ (side passion lol) BUT, academic term starts in feb...and Bond Invites are released in feb to do the test...let's just say I get an offer to do Eco and Finance, do I conditionally accept? Is that even possible tho? Do I not go to uni? What if I don't do well in the psychometric test/interview, does that mean I don't go to uni for that whole year? Sorry I am just VERY confused.

3. How hard is the psychometric test? Is it like the UCAT SJ cos that was...strange lol. Also, I am aware there is another test, is that like a character test?

Thank you,

1. Placing JCU in your preferences if you don't have an interview after the second round will not change chances, you need an interview to get a place. Also, you just need JCU in your preferences to get an interview, so it doesn't matter where it is for the second round, just as long as it is there. When you get the interview, if JCU is your first preference, then put it there. But, if i am honest, I think you already stated, but since you aren't going to improve on your predicted atar, it is very unlikely.

2. You will enrol in UQ BAFE or Finance and economics (whether you wanna do advanced or not IDK), but then if you get an offer for the May start at Bond, then you will drop out of your UQ courses before the census, without any financial liability and then drop out of the program, and enrol at bond, so you actually don't have to no go to UQ. Also, yes you should conditionally accept your BAFE offer and then move it down the list, and then put bond at the top. If you don't do well in the test, then you just continue with sem 1 at uq like nothing has changed. The only thing you have to change is if you get an offer at bond, then you unenrol and enrol at bond.

3. I will leave to someone who has done the test before

:)

If you want to legally sell your heart in the U.S., it can be purchased for about $1 million. Livers come in second, worth about $557,000 and kidneys cost about $262,000 each. Not to speak about human skin ($10/inch), stomach ($500) and eyeballs ($1,500 each)

It looks like there's plenty of ways to get the 250k needed for bond, after all you do have two kidneys... With the amount left over you should be able to buy a used car aswell! Sounds like a pretty sweet deal

please dont sell your organs to pay for bond, realistically people get their parents to pay for it. afaik there are no loans you can take out for the remaining amount
