CSU CSU Dentistry: Q&A and General Discussion

Given that the CSU app is a written response to the question asked. Are they asking a display of knowledge to see the depth of your perception into the question they asked?

For example for this year "outline the attributes that should be possessed by a rural practitioner". Through answering this question are they asking us what we feel is necessary in a technical way to assess the depth you've thought about it or how much you can relate it to yourself? Like, I think rural practitioners should ______because I've been to xyz and saw all this stuff!

atptsoi, you will be competing against 1000+ applications. I would not take the scientific/technical approach. I'm sure Prof Wilson would have read hundreds/thousands peer-reviewed journal articles on related topics.
I would keep the response as individual as possible. That is your response has to reflect YOU as a person as well.
Ideas to consider: "How much do you know about rural oral health?" "What have you experienced or witnessed?" "What are some of the current rural oral health issues?"....therefore "what attributes should be processed by a rural practitioner"; and "have you had the chance to apply any of these attributes to practice?"
You can do some background research on the above, amalgamate the background knowledge you have with your own personal experiences, and keep it authentically yours i.e. your story!
Hope that helps!

I couldn't of explained it better myself, defs agree with you the cat (lovin' your inclusion of the dent pun ;) ).

As the cat mentioned, accentuate your characteristic experiences (through your work experience, volunteer work, extracurricular activities etc.) and distinctive range of aptitudes (inc. manual dexterity), whilst addressing 'the' question, to make your response 'stand out' from the other applicants :)

Hi Guys,

I am curious to know what my chances would be to get into Dentistry at CSU. I've posted my application to Orange on 27th and my express tracking ID says its "Delivered" not sure if they have received or not. I am waiting for few days to hear from them or I'll call up to confirm if they received my application.

I am from Albury and My GPA is 5.0 at this point with 1 more sem to go. I don't have any work experience in dental field or anything even close. I am not sure how I did in my written application about "Rural practitioner" but I wrote what I felt was right.

Do you guys reckon, I stand any chance to be called or an interview? anyone similar to my case?

Cheers!

what are my chances of getting an interview if the copy of my hsc results and semester 1 results were not authorized as true copies. i swear never saw anything about this anywhere :( my atar was 92.8 and first semester GPA 6.3 in biomedical science, and i feel i wrote a pretty good response on rural dentists so would they bother ringing up my uni to check that the marks i gave them are true?

How do you know they called your uni? I didn't have a gpa for semester 1 so I print screened my assessment grades from myuni. I'm really worried they won't accept it :( even though I worked really hard on my application.

no they havent called my uni (i assume), i was just wondering if they would to check that the marks i gave them were true. and yeah i just printed out a screen shot of my marks, i really hope they will accept that too! :(

and why dont you have a GPA? dont you just put the marks into a GPA calculator?

I'm doing BOH in Adelaide so their grading system is based on a full academic year and it's in 2 parts. Also each semester assessments aren't weighted equally so I don't get any overall grades after each semester so my academic transcript just says continuing and that's it. I emailed Judy stone about it but she didn't really answer my question and I asked the faculty and the school to write me some sort of letter to notify Judy that we don't get a GPA for semester 1 but they refused to because it's not official. It's really hard cause I'm really worried it'll be detrimental to my application but I have finished a degree before I just really don't want to use that GPA cause it was really bad. This semester I did really well so I'm praying it'll be OK.

Hey,

I have some general questions that need to be answered ASAP by this week. Is there a CSU student on here that I can quickly ask my questions to? I am new to MSO and don't have enough posts to PM yet.

Thanks!

I appreciate this! Here we go:

1. How do you guys like the program so far? The facilities look very nice.....
2. How many simulation heads are there? Enough for one per student? I think I read 60?
3. If a student needs/wants extra practice, can they come into the lab on their own time to practice?
4. There are 16 clinical chairs.... plus an additional few larger rooms (8 or so?). With a class of 40, how does that work in later years? I have a brother in third year and he is literally in the clinical lab every day from morning to evening, just like all his classmates.. are there enough for all students? Do we use the additional ones in Wagga wagga?
5. Is there a radiology lab?
6. Is there a possibility to do research on the side?
7. What is the accreditation status? When I go to the ADA web site, it lists the accreditation until 2015, yet on the web site it mentions they are working on it.
8. Are there any exams a student has to take before entering the clinics?
9. Is there a removable prosthadontics lab? My brother asked me to ask you this. Not sure what it means. Is there a Radiology Lab?
10. How does a student get patients for the clinic? Do they have to get them on their own, or are they set up for you by the department?

-- Sorry for the many questions! I hope i'm not asking anything stupid in there..... else please disregard the question.

Thanks in advance!
J.

jb2014tl that font is horrible xD Might want to consider editing it. I'm only in first year so I can't really answer many of those questions. Hutcherson and maybe mighty will be your best bet.
