CSU CSU Dentistry: Q&A and General Discussion

Here's an updated comparison list

Yes invites
1) 650 710 780 860 - 3000 - 663 SJ - 3rd pref - NSL (LJess94)
2) 570 740 880 770 - 2960 - 584 SJ - 1st pref - GAP (Chocoholicboi)
3) 600 730 730 890 - 2950 - 630 SJ - 1st pref - NSL (Meddent124)
4) 540 730 800 770 - 2840 - 603 SJ - 5th pref - NSL (Blondeclarkkent)

5) 570 790 800 880 - 3040 - 706 SJ - 5th pref - Y12 (3300+99.95)
6) 650 710 880 770 - 3010 - 660 SJ - 3rd pref - Y12 (Assad)
7) 640 740 760 870 - 3010 - 600 SJ - 3rd pref - NSL (Yoloucatswag) NSW
8) 700 790 780 690 - 2960 - 646 SJ - 3rd pref - NSL (Coffeecup21) NSW

Quick analysis: The ONLY explanation possible for (4) Yes vs (7)(8) NSW No is QR 800 vs 760-780. But then how is (3) Yes with QR 730!
My speculation: CSU has corrupted or received a corrupted UCAT score list from Pearson.

Haha you missed mine again but all goods I shall add this and any following responses to the email. If you are one of the people who missed out on the interview, please email and call CSU. My email has been forwarded to the head of dental science and they are currently reviewing all emails and said they will provide a response ASAP. If enough people speak up about this they will realise the severity of this mistake and that their reputation is legit on the ropes LOL

A1 replies: I missed yours coz you didn't provide your SJT score and I don't want to mess up my perfect column alignment

Just checking who you called. Was it the CSU reception or someone else?

Hey I just worded it politely like

I am emailing to follow up on the rejection email that I have received. My Ucat score is _____ UAC App number ________. I understand CSU does not provide individual feedback, but there are many cases of students with higher UCAT Scores having missed out than those who have received an invite. It would be greatly appreciated if my application blahblah

Also 1800 275 278 then dial 2 for Admissions Team

So did you receive the invite today, or has it been in your Spambox all this time haha. If just today did CSU explain why so late?

I wonder if 3300+99.95's 94%ile has also got one vs LJess94's 92%ile invite. If not then maybe CSU has different cutoffs for Y12 vs non-standard.
Yeah I received it yesterday! I spoke to a lady on the phone who said they must of made an error with mine which is why it was so late.

who did you talk with?
I spoke with the future students admissions team! Just the number they list on the website. I think she was able to help because I’m a current CSU student so she could already see my file and GPA so might have been easier to follow up on than if I was a high school leaver. I called on Tuesday and received the invite on Wednesday (yesterday).

Also with the interview booking system I think it closes when you receive the invite as opposed to a set date. Because my closing date is listed at the top of the email but it’s different to other peoples since my invite was delayed.

This is the reply that I got from CSU - I dont even know if they read what I said properly

Thank you for your message.

We understand the outcome you received is not as you hoped. Due to this being a highly competitive course it attracts many more applicants than we have places available. Consequently, applications are of a consistently excellent standard and inevitably many good applicants are unsuccessful.

Due to the high number of applications received, we are unable to provide individual feedback on applications. Additionally, we cannot provide comment on other applications.

Applications are assessed and ranked using the following criteria, which are outlined in the online course brochure Bachelor of Dental Science:

  • Current Charles Sturt students
  • Regional and metropolitan background/location; and then
  • UCAT scores

If you remain committed to pursuing a career in Dentistry, we would be pleased to receive another application from you in the future. In the meantime, if applicable, you may wish to consider another course which may fit with your interests. Charles Sturt offers a wide range of courses in the Health sciences which you may wish to consider. To find out more about options available at Charles Sturt please visit www.csu.edu.au/courses.

Thank you again for your application and we wish you well in your future endeavours.

Regards,

Ugh this actually ticks me off so much - they've clearly botched the admissions process or have some brand new scoring system that they aren't being at all transparent about. They really owe it to the applicants at this point to tell us what on earth is going on. I think maybe it would be easier to get some information out of them over the phone than by email, because it's unlikely that they'd just hang up on you if you kept asking whereas they can easily brush you off in an email

i got exactly the same email.

Regional and metropolitan background/location; and then
Do you guys think there is a chance that CSU might have a different pool for applicants from underprivileged postcodes/suburbs/high schools?

Unfortunately, CSU is one of the most poorly organised dental schools in Australia. I have a friend who knows some CSU students and they said that the course is also very badly taught.

CSU doesn't have a seperate quota for such applicants, but the experiences of people vary considerably. Admission wise they need improvements in communication however [I've had friends who have loved and hated the course at CSU but the dentistry course in general can also be a reason for that].

That's^ a load of crap.

I read that BDSc link, it contains another link to CSU's General Admission policy which says Regional background applicants are given an ATAR adjustment. But ATAR adjustment has no effect on interview selection for BDSc, the BDSc webpage itself says all on UCAT.

yep can confirm there is isn't a separate quota for underprivilaged postcodes/subrubs/school.
