CSU CSU Dentistry: Q&A and General Discussion

hey congrats, what was your GPA? I'm currently doing the same and I'm a bit scared.
thank you!! my GPA was a 6.5, that was completing 6 subjects online. I still worked a lot throughout the year too which is why I opted to do online and then travelled twice a year to Wagga for residential school

Hey! I'm also from Sydney and I got in for this year. I did a year of med sci online through CSU and got a high GPA which got me an interview. I thought the same as you, I already graduated with a med sci degree from a previous uni and was really hesitant to do it again because you're right, not many jobs unless you further your studies but I always knew I wanted to do dentistry. But doing the year of med sci online at CSU actually benefitted me because I had a lot of subjects that were able to be transferred over to dentistry from med sci. I didn't study on campus, I stayed in Sydney and worked and traveled twice in the year for residential school and the interviewers knew that. I don't think it makes a difference studying here for a year unless you're applying as a rural student. Also oral health or physio probably won't increase your chances. My professor said 13 students from med sci got in this year, you have a better chance with med sci than anything else so it seems. Most oral health transfers were not first years students as well. If you have any questions please message me!
Hey, that's amazing, Congratulations!!!! I did see this post too late however and I decided to stick with the computer science degree. I called the university and explained the same situation to them and asked if my chances of getting into dent will be lower than those doing med sci and he said it might, however a way I could tackle this was by getting work experience (shadowing dentists throughout the year) and showing the interviewers during the interview my passion for dentistry or whatever through these experiences. What do you think??

Hey! So sorry for the late reply. Thank you so much! 90% of my interview was definitely me talking about my experience as a dental assistant. For example I could relate similar qualities between myself and the dentists I worked with, teamwork within a dental setting, skills required to be a dentist etc... I think without it, I wouldn't have gotten in. Most people in the cohort commencing this year all have some sort of dental experience whether they're oral health therapists or dental assistants so I think that's a very valuable piece of info you've received! If you need help on how to get some dental experience or a job in dentistry feel free to message me :)

Oh wow, that's actually really surprising to hear. I would love some help getting experience, would that be possible even though I have zero background in the dental field (fresh out of high school)? Could you please message me, I think my account is pretty new and the website isn't letting me message others just yet, thanks :)

Hello! Does anyone know how many interviewees there may be for this year or how many there may have been in recent years? I assume that 100 interviewees as mentioned in the first post may not hold true now.
