CSU CSU Dentistry: Q&A and General Discussion

I recieved an offer this morning but I'm not sure exactly how each type of application works, I'm a high school leaver so I got mine through UAC. Maybe the mature aged / internal transfers are happening at different times?
Congrats !! was this your first preference or are you waiting for other offers?

did anyone get their rejection letter? I just received mine
Didn't know that they sent rejection letters, what did it outline? I thought that if you interviewed but didn't receive an offer this round you wouldn't be rejected so far as you'd be considered for following rounds?

This is what I thought but I just received my rejection letter. so weird

Hi Daisy.

I believe the Cohort is just shy of 50 people. Probably around 20 were around internal transfers from Wagga or Orange either physio or oral health. Since these have placements and are also rural places the uni has opted to take in a large amount of these students as many have already completed year one subjects.

With your GPA you should have been awarded an interview.

I don't recommend UCAT, but you would need to be studying this year at CSU to be considered.

There are alot of students with low UCAT scores, however these are all Oral Health Therapists who came from rural areas, hence why UCAT score was low!

All I can say is the course is quite difficult and anyone that got entry into the course suffered maintaining high GPAs in other allied health courses which is very difficult to do as your probably aware.

I'd say continue your course and if you want prep for UCAT, you may get offers to other institutes or even medicine if it interests you. But if you are really passionate about dentistry then keep trying. There are people in their 30s/40s doing dentistry and medicine.

Whilst the courses are designed as undergrad degrees, the uni has taken a different approach to selection and admissions, with a preference for older and more experienced students as opposed to fresh highschool kids.

All the best!
Damn, so as a VCE student graduating this year do you think its worth it to apply with just a UCAT?

Does anyone know if you can apply again for the internal transfer if you don't make it in the first time?
There doesn't appear to be any rule against it. The rules have changed though. They no longer guarantee an interview for meeting the GPA threshold, but it's worth a shot if you're keen on it.

Shocking mistake - assumed all of UAC closes 30 Sept, and just realised CSU dentistry closed yesterday and can’t find the course in UAC anymore. Does anyone know if there is a late application submission process or lost the opportunity for this year…..still can apply for Notredame medicine. Much appreciate any responses.

Unfortunately cut off dates for Med and Dent (and a few other degrees with interviews/auditions etc) are very strict. We have people here most years who miss dates. I’ve not heard of any convincing a TAC to accept a late submission. They have an excess of applicants regardless so have no need to.

Thank you for your response, much appreciate it. This is a hard lesson learned.

If they no longer guarantee an interview for meeting the GPA threshold, do you know how they offer out interviews to students? Is it basically just ranked on highest GPA?
