CSU CSU Dentistry: Q&A and General Discussion

I'm CSU student its great university, Applied for dentistry 2025 intake through pathway Transferring from Bachelor of health and Medical science with minimum 6 subjects in two term. With high GPA 6+. 8 subject completed, 2 years of Dental assistant experience , Well done in MMI interview. Still No offer.
its very competitive course even if you have high GPA, 6-8 subjects, well done in interview plus work experience it doesn't Guarantee Entery to dentistry.

banana1234567 mate You are super lucky that you got an offer . Not sure how but its just luck I think. Congraduation.

Question : is it easy through Bachelor of Health science or Oral health ?
Bachelor of Health science : Easy to get High GPA. less chance to get into dentistry
Bachelor of Oral health : Hard to get high GPA , paper exam and practical exams , but Easy to get into dentistry. you must have high GPA.
From my point of view, probably your interview performance was not competitive enough compared with other candidates, even though you have a strong academic performance. Better to try interview again this year, good luck!!!

When there is no feedback on the interview, how can you improve for next year? How do you know which part of the interview wasn’t competitive enough?

The interview felt easy to me—mostly about personal life and drawing. Maybe it was my drawing? They asked me to draw two images of a tooth, and I drew six sides of a tooth. I thought adding extra details might help since I had a few extra minutes.

Thanks for your reply .

Hey Bro, try to be realistic honestly. Actually no Med and Dent school will provide interview feedback… It is a big game where you are competing with someone. You can think about Olympic game! Probably think about why your interview was not good enough (content removed).

Thanks for your input! I appreciate your perspective, and I understand that medical and dental school interviews can be competitive. However, my experience with the interview was quite different it was very straightforward and focused on personal information like my background, hobbies, and dental experience. Questions like "What’s your name?" or "Do you like surfing?" (content removed)

I’m curious about your mention of the "Olympic game" analogy (content removed). Have you been through a similar interview process yourself? I’d love to hear more about your experience and how you prepared.

Thanks again for sharing your thoughts! Let’s keep the conversation going I’m always open to learning from others.

Unfortunately interview is an admission aspect applicants are at the mercy of the school and/or the interviewers or differences between the interviewers themselves. We have seen interviewers being 4th-5th year students, I mean does being 4-5 years older qualify them to judge/mark interviewees objectively.

Many with high ATAR+UCAT have failed to get UNSW (so must be down to their interviews), yet the same applicants got place offers at interview-heavy JMP/WSU they couldn't be so bad at it. In one case a Sydney friend failed at UNSW twice, then got interstate offers from both Curtin & UWA. It's beyond comprehension.

Maybe it was my drawing?
I'd just like to point out that the drawing itself wasn't all that important as long as it kind of resembled a tooth. What they're after is whether or not you've got an acceptable pencil grip. Also your ability to follow instructions. Some people only did 3 views etc. There's a few components in this that are important to consider.

adding extra details
They generally ask you questions once you confirm that you're done with the drawing. So if you added the details and didn't answer any of their questions, they wouldn't have been able to score highly on the content of your answers.
interview performance was not competitive enough
Once you get an interview offer, I believe 100% of your ability to get an offer is reliant on your interview, so if your interivew isn't their cup of tea, you don't get the offer unfortunately.

Also, I think it's important to make sure that everyone understands that it's not necessarily the number of subjects that's important. It's the weighting. So if you have a double weighted subject (24 pts, I think), it'll count for 2 subjects rather than 1.

Hi! I did this pathway and I’m in 3rd year, please send me a PM
I'm keen to understand the 'easier' electives for CSU's Bachelor of Health and Medical Science course but can't seem to send you a PM - would you be comfortable sharing here?

Would anyone know if there is a thread for those enrolled in CSU's Bachelor of Health and Medical Science course to share advice/notes/tips on subjects?

Unfortunately, I'm on the same boat. I haven't unlocked the privilege to send messages yet.

First year is easy and third year is, maybe not hard, but requires you connect a lot of the previously studied material. If you want to do a professional degree after health science, there is no fault in doing lower level and broad subjects like chem1/2, psychology, basic stuff, where a bit of work can get you a good grade, but you also get the broadening you might find useful later.

Honestly I found first year physiology, chemistry (not for everyone), and second year physiology and pharmacology the most straightforward grades wise. They are simple to study for and designed to test your content learning. Microbiology as well is straightforward. I don't say easy or easy to get a grade because you can get 4 HDs a semester if you do infinite work, how much you want to do is different for everyone. I went from HD to D in physiology and Chemistry in first year because I was just getting a bit sick of the redundancy needed for 90%.

But Physiology/Pathophysiology/Nutrition as a group are great because you will do a lot of the same work in different subjects and different models across the three groups of two subjects. (BMS181/182/291/292/233/266). Doing PSY111 before you do PSY214 is also helpful. And MCR101 was more fun than difficult, it is really about thinking microbiologically, and some fun lab work. And for the core subjects, I had a good experience in BMS105 and BMS142. I can't speak to the others, but they felt more medically focused.

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone could clarify the application process for internal pathway for current CSU students—do we need to apply through UAC, or can we apply directly via the CSU website?

Thanks in advance!

Hey there AmbP,
i think im in the exact same boat as you this year, tryna get in for the 2026 intake. Im aware that all applications to csu dent are through UAC, and im pretty sure the applications open around june for it? and they use your sem 1 gpa and ucat score to offer interview places.

Hello Bambiwooly,
Thats great! Thank you for your response. Good luck with your studies this year and best of luck with your application.
I couldn't find any information on the date that the application open on the actual CSU website. Do you know where i can find that?

Thanks man you too!! Are you a first year doing bachelor health and med sci?
I went through a deep rabbit hole tryna find these application dates for dental school a long time ago so i dont exactly remember where i found it for csu.
I did just ask live chat CSU after your comment and they have said application closes on the 26th September and its open right now? Not sure how accurate that information is.

Thank you. I've managed to find the info on UAC website. You are right about the dates. Yes i am first year doing B health and medscie. What did you end up doing?

Yeah, applications for internal transfer have to be done through UAC because then you can denote yourself as an existing student of CSU, so that they disregard your UCAT score. They'll still have it, but it won't be a consideration of their selection if you're internal. We've had a few miss the cut-off by one or two days or forget to attach documents like their rural forms, so don't forget those as well if they're applicable to you.

Hi im a first year student studying at the university of sydney and i wanted to apply for transfer into csu's dental program next year. I was just wondering whether the university accepts applicants from other unis and around how many they accept each year. Also I am sitting the UCAT so what is the expected cutoff mark i need to achieve to get an interview offer. Also will they take into account my gpa/atar or will my selection for the interview be solely based on my ucat. Thanks

They do accept non-CSU students, but there aren't many. I'm not sure about the 1st years now, but in my year there was 38 domestic total. Of which there would have been <10 non-CSU students. All but one rural.
Cut-offs vary. There's a lot of leeway for rural students and comparable to other metro unis for non-rural (upper 90s% and GPA 6.5++)
