CSU CSU Dentistry: Q&A and General Discussion

If they no longer guarantee an interview for meeting the GPA threshold, do you know how they offer out interviews to students? Is it basically just ranked on highest GPA?
I'm not privy to that information unfortunately. It'll be the first year that it's changed, so realistically, no one knows. It could well be based on rurality, GPA, weighing up of both and also considering how many external students to take in based on their allocated rural places.

Hey does anyone know if this is a new requirement change if you're planning on doing CSU internal transfer pathway?

The information below is for students studying in another course at Charles Sturt in 2024 intending to apply for entry into the Bachelor of Dental Science for the 2025 intake.

Selection for interview:
Eligibility for interview is based on GPA in the year of application. Interviews may be granted to current Charles Sturt students who meet the following criteria:

  • Enrolled in any Charles Sturt course at the time of application
  • Have completed a minimum of 4 standard subjects (32 credit points) at Charles Sturt with a GPA of 5.5 or better at the time of application

Does that mean I have to take on 4 Subjects in Session 1 and 3 Subjects in Session 2 if I want to apply for CSU Dentistry AND other universities??

**Final offers into the course will be conditional on obtaining a GPA of 5.5 or better at the end of the academic year of application, across a minimum of 6 standard subjects (48 credit points or more) in that year**

For CSU as Internal transfer, you can do 3 subjects per semester (each subject is 8 points), e.g Semester 1 = 24 points, Semester 2 = 24 points (total 48 points).

It states that "GPA 5.5 or better" - As entry into this course is competitive, meeting these criteria does not guarantee you an interview".

But obviously aim for 6.5+ for a good chance because everyone is gunning for Dent. Other Universities will need a FTE (full-time equivalent) meaning x4 subjects per semester to be eligible to apply dentistry at their Uni.

I have emailed CSU asking if i could do 3 subjects per semester but they replied with

“To meet the entry requirements, you need to study 6 subjects in 2025 and achieve a GPA of 5.5 or above.

However, you must study 4 of these subjects in Session 1 and achieve a GPA of 5.5 or above in those first 4.

After completing Session 1, you'll be able to submit your application, and then your final eligibility is determined after you complete the final 2 subjects for the year.”

So im wondering if this is a new requirement cos ive never heard this before

Hmm very interesting, this is new for me aswell. That means you have to study full time for the first semester, and then you can do x2 subjects for 2nd semester

Congrats on those that have received an offer for CSU and will be commencing in 2025, please see the official group chat for your cohort below :)

Has anyone got offers today for CSU dental? It’s the release date for round 1 January offers but I’m not sure if CSU follows these specific dates from reading the comments in the forum.

Hey Bambiwooly,
I received an offer for 2025 intake through the internal transfer pathway. Took a while for me to figure this out myself when I was going through the subject enrolment process last year, but, I completed four subjects in term 1 and three subjects in term 2. It's also worth noting that your term 1 GPA is what the selection committee bases your interview offer on, as term 2 results come out after interview offers are released - or at least that's how it was for me.

Thank you this was very helpful! Were you able to apply to other dental schools with doing 4 and 3 units?
Congratulations btw!!

Thanks, Bambiwooly! The only interview and dent offer I received was from CSU despite applying to other dent schools in Aus (JCU, UQ, Griffith and Adelaide), so, unfortunately, I'm not sure how helpful I'll be - I recon call the individual unis to check what their per sem subject requirements are to be considered full-time. Sorry I couldn't be more useful. All the best!

Hey MD_Penguin and AmbP!
When I applied I was in my second year of Psychology, I had also worked for over a year as a dental assistant and my GPA was 6.4. Definitely feel in the minority with my GPA and feel suuper lucky. That being said, I've heard (please take with a grain of salt) of non-rural applicants with lower GPAs getting interview offers, so I guess you never really know. All the best guys!

Hi All, I am kindly asking anyone who did the Bachelor of Health and Medical Science and got into dentistry through internal pathway to please let me know which 4 subjects they've picked in semester 1. I really appreciate your help :). feel free to message me if you'd prefer.
