[Undergrad] EAS/SCATS/UES/SEAS General Discussion and Enquiries

Even if they did, I’d imagine for most states it would almost be blanket for all students and therefore not particularly useful, if that makes sense. If you’re from a school that’s had to do multiple additional lockdowns for deep cleaning after students have tested positive, there might be something additional, but I’d imagine most ‘concessions’ would need to be universally applied with the exception of parts of Vic.

Yeah my school had to close twice because of COVID, and I have poor internet and laptop at home, so that was what I was going to put since I think thats more than just general lockdown disruption

Also worth pointing out that not all medical/dental schools take EAS into account - even though QTAC has that category it won't be accepted by Griffith/UQ/JCU for medicine or dentistry.

Yep, JMP and WSU historically haven’t used EAS either, just UNSW for undergrad Med.

Oof okay, looks like I won't bother for QTAC then

So if you are just below the ATAR threshold (and have EAS) do they not look at you at all?

Correct (historically).

Though note: they don’t actually look at ATAR/GPA until the last step, so you could conceivably get a high enough UCAT for interview, attend the interview, perform well, and then be declared ineligible on the basis of the final check (ATAR/GPA). If you’re not scheduled to interview until Jan, they will generally call and let you know not to bother (though previous users have said they’ve still be offered the interview as practice if they want it).

JMP is now using EAS:
“The Joint Medical Program is now included in the Educational Access Scheme. Through the Educational Access Scheme (EAS) you can get up to four additional adjustment points if you have experienced educational or other disadvantage. For more information about the EAS see here.”

ohhhhh very interesting wasn't going too apply otherwise. thx for that. so does that mean if in a bad case scenario your just under the cut off (not sure exactly what it is) that they will consider you?

I don’t think it applies for the UCAT cut-off but rather, the ATAR threshold. So, if you meet the UCAT cut-off, pass the interview, but your ATAR is less than 4 points below the minimum required (94.3), then you’ll be considered under EAS for bonus points.

What exactly is “4 points”? Does this just drop the requirements to 90.3?

Hi Guys, I recieved a notification from VTAC today saying "your EAS documents have been reviewed and accepted and will be made available to institutions to be considered as part of your application". I am applying for Monash. Does it mean Monash will consider it or it's up to them to consider? Thanks guys.

I take the message to mean that you were successful in your EAS application and therefore Monash is obligated to take it into consideration. EAS is applicable to their med course, so there's no reason they wouldn't. All the best!

wait a sec so if I'm a vic applicant and im applying interstate do I have to apply for EAS/SEAS separately in each state? I was under the impression I had to do that but if VTAC it seems like not based on that?

Yes, you apply separately for each state. Each state will likely have different requirements to receive equity bonuses (I believe some are based on your school and others your residential address?) and the boost you receive from them is different, so make sure you check each before applying.

Hello MSO. I'm new to the forums and I have an inquiry.
How much of an impact/difference would it have to an applicant if they qualify for EAS vs an applicant that doesn't? Mainly towards Universities in NSW for medicine and allied health degrees.
Thanks.

Hey there. Was wondering if you take a gap year, will UNSW still consider your EAS when looking at your ATAR?

If the disadvantage you experienced was prior to Oct of your year 12 year and you haven’t started tertiary study (ie. are on a gap year), then I interpret the EAS guide as indicating you’d still be considered.

Just called SATAC to confirm how the 5 aggregate points will be added. They have confirmed, that the ATAR of interstate applicants will first be converted into a SATAC aggregate, and then the 5 points will be added, in order to ensure equity among all students.

I think it doesn't apply for med courses. Please check.
