Flinders Flinders Medicine: Provisional Entry General Discussion

Does anyone know whether its possible to get guaranteed entry into medicine at Flinders with a Bachelor of Medical Science / Bachelor of Engineering (Biomedical) (Honours) degree at Flinders?
No, i believe it is not. You would have to sit GAMSAT and an interview, from memory. But Flinders have historically favoured their own graduates so you would get a boost.

You're right. According to the newspaper, 71 offers were made to Flinders today, which I guess is the usual amount....
Why on earth is 71 offers made? My understanding is that Flinders gives out around 30 offers. I just don't get it. Apparently about 210 offers were made for Adelaide. I got a dentistry offer, does that mean I have a good chance of getting into Adelaide med in subsequent rounds?

30 offers or 30 places?

Many universities over offer in round one based on historical data that guides them as to how many students will accept offers. Given all 99.95s (not UES boosted) will also get USyd and UMelb offers, perhaps Flinders know they need to over offer substantially. UAdel also have a very high decline rate if MSO data is anything to go by (historically, more than 50% of students reporting UAdel offers here at MSO indicate their intention to decline them). JCU have also been open in that past about the fact they over offer based on historical decline rates.

Oh wow, 70 offers for 30 odd places! How high is their decline rate? Can't imagine more than a handful second round offers being made then. LeSpicyGinger ?
I remember LeSpicyGinger confirmed their year 70ish offers with just under 30 enrolled
(and not necessarily any 2nd round offers e.g. 70 1st round offers, 40 declines => 30 cohort as intended).

Also interesting is this from QTAC published stats
> QTAC Med/Dent Offers 2019/2020/2021
UQ Med provisional
2021 intake: 399 offers | 185 accepted | 151 enrolled (75 Qld, 76 interstate)
2020 intake: 496 offers | 238 accepted | 180 enrolled (84 Qld, 96 interstate)
180 enrolled out of almost 500 offers.

oh wow, so there's a very high decline rate for many unis then. Do we have an estimate of how many second round offers are made by flinders historically though?

It appears A1 is indicating potentially zero second round offers. They make ~70 first round offers knowing from historical data ~40 will decline, leaving them with their intended cohort of ~30 without any additional mucking around.

Data from the last few years shows second, third and fourth round offers.

Yes. 3 later round offers last year in 2022, and 8 late round offers in 2021 here at MSO. In 2021, 68 offers were made in the first round, which is comparable to this year.

You guys have more time than I to dig up old data ... I concede 🤣
I wrote not necessarily any 2nd round offers, meaning could be yes could be none. I covered my backside haha.

Anyway what I tried to say is - schools like UNSW JMP Monash deliberately hold two interview rounds one for in-state one for interstate, therefore a 2nd offer round is obvious. Whereas Flinders having 2nd/later rounds depends on how many offers are declined, so later offers are not necessarily necessary.

I don’t have any data beyond what is offered in the advertiser papers which I don’t have access to :/. Talking to hopefuls last year, above top 60 or 70 from memory after first round has a high chance of receiving an offer

So I know that emails are rolled throughout the day when offers come out, but is SATAC updated in the morning itself?

Hello, I just called Flinders and they said I was around 20-30 in rank after the 2nd offer round. I would like to know the likelihood of me getting an offer for the next offer round in February. Thanks :).
