Just a thought - does it seem like this year UNSW has a lot more posters with EAS compared to data from previous years? Maybe this might be largely due to UACs shift to using <30th percentile socio-economic status of suburbs for bonus points rather than just the disadvantaged schools list. Could this be one of the reasons why the "cut-off" ATAR jumped so drastically from 98.2 to 99.25?

I did apply for one (my case was a little weak imo), but I'm not too sure if it was upheld.
That's gotta be the only explanation tbh, apart from any school/rural/indigenous bonuses. I'm honestly not sure 98.35+100th percentile would get an interview even by last year's standards and without the alleged new cutoffs.

Yeah definitely. I got 97.65 and 96% ucat with an interview and I'm still in shock...

Do you know exactly how much extra points EAS kids get? Is that part of the decision letter or nah (the thing that is supposedly coming out today)
Have no clue, sorry. I heard from a friend that they dont tell you exactly how many points you get, but thats just speculation. If they do tell you, I'd definitely update everyone!

Hi all, I received an early offer for a course at Monash yesterday, does anyone know that if I conditionally accept and enrol, if I receive a higher preference or change my mind later if I will be able to decline, and if you can decline, whether you need to pay any fees?? Thanks for any help/advice!

Yes you can decline and you won't have to pay any fees if you decline before the census date which will be around end of March 2020.

Hi, just wondering with regards to the UNSW "cut-offs" of 99.25 and 2800ish UCAT - does everyone with scores above these (e.g. someone with 99.25 and 2900) get an interview, or are these scores simply the minimum for each component?
I was thinking the latter, but I haven't really seen/heard of anyone I know being who was rejected despite having 99.25+ and 2800ish+.
Does anyone here know of someone who got just above 2800ish and 99.25+ but still missed out?

I got 2810 and 99.7 and received a rejection email. However I am from VIC so this did confuse me as I though interstate didn't find out until later

My interpretation of what little information we have about this is that the 99.25 and ~2800 (I'm gonna say 2850 just for simplicity) thresholds really just mean that they're the minimum scores for each criteria:
  • Even with a 99.95 ATAR, a UCAT of below ~2850 would not be sufficient to get an interview. This is consistent with last year where UNSW interview invites after the first round required a 91st %ile UMAT with a 99.95 ATAR. So anyone with less than a ~2850 UCAT, which equates to 90th %ile UCAT, won't be able to have a high enough ATAR to get an invite.
  • Likewise, even with a 3200+ UCAT, an ATAR below 99.25 would not be sufficient to get an interview. This seems significantly higher than last year, so I'm curious as to whether the person posting this originally might've misheard 98.25 as 99.25? Similar concept though.
So, there's still likely to be a 50/50 split between UCAT and ATAR. Someone who might have a 99.25 ATAR and a 2850 UCAT, despite having cleared these minimums, might have a combination that's too weak for an interview because a ~2850 needs a 99.95, and a 99.25 needs a 3100+. As in, there's still a ratio. I personally haven't heard much and there's limited interview invite data on MSO for UNSW this year so far, so I'm really not sure. Just my two cents.

From a query to Unsw last year it's the latter. Those below either threshold are cut out, the rest are competitively selected on the combined score until the intended number of interviewees is filled. Being just above both doesn't mean getting an interview.

it would probably be more likely that everyone who gets over the hurdle get an interview this year though; especially since 90th + 99.5 (not exactly but similar to) was like the lowest offer last year and this year there are many people getting cut out due to this rule, so I wouldn't be surprised if everyone that got over the hurdles got an interview though.
