General Interview Discussion and Questions - 2021 Entry

Hi guys I have 2 questions

1) could someone clarify if CSU Medicine interviews are seperate to the WSU interviews? Sorry this is probably a silly question. But I just did my WSU interview and don’t think I did too well, so it would be nice to have another shot if Charles Strurt has a seperate interview. I am A rural, NSW resident and non-standard (1 year of a degree)

2) how many rural students does JMP interview?

No, it’s a single interview.

And I think JMP tend to interview approximately 4-5 x the amount of places they have on offer. I can’t remember the rural/non-rural/indigenous/BBioMedSci numbers but if you look them up then x by ~4-5, that should be an approximate number.

JMP has 30% of the places set for students from a rural background. There's about 800 interviews (based of last year), I would assume 30% of those would be for rural applicants - about 240. However you're only competing for the rural places offered as it's separate to general entry. So there's 51 places set for rural students across the now 3 campuses (including CCCS) so its better than a 20% chance of getting in 😉

Just adding to this, I would suppose the odds increase again as students may take offers from a different university or there are interviewees with academic achievements (HSC/GPA/WAM) that don't actually meet the hurdle threshold for admission

Hi,
I’m a bit confused now. I thought we had only one choice : either WSU or CSU for the JPM. Were we supposed to apply separately thru each uni on UAC?

Hi! LMG was talking about the JMP offered by UNE/UoN in that post 😊 JMP/JPM has confused me many times reading through this forum

Nope, I was talking about JPM and the fact that it’s a single interview (not one for WSU campus and one for CSU campus) as per the OP’s question.

Sorry, I was just looking at the second part of your post that Paddington quoted!

Paddington quoted my whole post, but appeared to be referring to the top part where I talked about there being a single interview for JPM (not one each for CSU and WSU) as that’s the question they asked w/r/t applications.

That aside, the JPM/JMP thing is definitely going to cause confusion (and already has on a few occasions!).

i was just wondering what you'd do in the case you have both an adelaide med and dent interview. won't a lot of the answers to questions contradict each other? could that also affect you in any way? and what is the chance that you get the same panel for both interviews?

As far as I know, the med and dent school don't discuss interviewees with each other so you don't have to worry about saying different things at each interview. I guess it could affect you in that you may have different answers to Q's like "why med?" and "why dent?" which may confuse you a bit (also be sure to consciously remind yourself to say dent, not med in a dent interview and vice versa - i almost made this mistake).
As for getting the same panel, the interviewers who introduced themselves to me said they were from the med/dent school (so no overlap there), but I think they also may use volunteers from the wider community. I suppose someone may volunteer for both med and dent interviews but I wouldn't let this worry you or distract you from anything - these people speak to so many applicants that they're likely to forget your face after marking you, especially over zoom (unless you did something to really stand out)

I suppose general discussion is where we can talk about this (if not please let me know :) ), but does anyone actually come out of an interview thinking "wow I aced that interview"? I've had a few over the past week and after every one of them I've had so many regrets, even if I can't pinpoint exactly what they are - but then after a few mins I'm like "wait actually I didn't do too bad I guess" then back to regrets after another few mins haha :( anyone relate?

I think it's easy to over analyse everything. I just had my JMP interview, and whilst I thought I did 'okay', I would have liked to have not been cut-off due to my own length of responses, but again, I'm sure everyone is experiencing that. Just try not to stress, not that I can say I wont be either :p, and focus on the things you enjoy until offers are released

Easier said than done, but be confident, especially if you were lucky enough to have multiple interviews like it seems you did! :)

thanks for the encouragement! I can definitely relate to your jmp worries :(
Same goes to you as well and hopefully i'll see you in the offers forum come january! :)

The vast majority of applicants do a post-interview analysis of everything they did/didn't say and should/shouldn't have said. It's very easy to criticise yourself in hindsight, and very few people actually have a perfect interview. Do your best to focus on what you are able to change now and your other upcoming interviews (if you have any), rather than what you cannot change.

I've spoken to about 20 different site users this week alone and not one of them has felt they nailed the interview!

Good luck to everyone regardless, and know there will likely be other opportunities in future if this entry round doesn't happen to work out for you.

Hey everyone,

Does anyone know / anyone who has done the Adelaide Medicine interview know how much reading time you are given before the second station where you're given a long scenario??

do a they ask scenario based questions or general questions?

As has been mentioned multiple times, but is worth repeating, posts containing information that confers a benefit to students yet to sit their interview over students who have already completed their interview will be deleted.

Please do not provide this kind of response. Keep responses to very general, procedural and encouragement based replies.

my apologies, i did not mean to ask for information that would give students an advantage over others.

I thought that this interview had a general structure that was made to the public i did not know that no body knew how it was like.

goodluck for everyone who is sitting this interview.

Your first two questions are fine, it’s the third (that I bolded) that is potentially a problem depending on how it is answered. I was just urging those considering a reply to be cautious.
