General Medicine Entry Discussion and Advice Requests

Was just wondering, is it possible to receive offers from multiple uni's on the 26th? Or would you only get your higher preference?

It's not unusual for unis to make direct phone calls to applicants once February rolls around, rather than participating in formal UAC rounds. This is because of the controlled numbers and limited time frames for finalising a Med/Dent cohort. JMP in particular are well known for this, but other unis too.

ETA: The phone calls are typically along the lines of "have you already secured a Med offer that you intend to accept?" If not, "would you accept a JMP offer?" If yes, the formal offer is made via UAC. This is so they can effectively 'skip over' people who already have home state (usually) offers lined up and will just reject a JMP offer if they were to get one. It speeds the process up. (*JMP used as an example, but this does apply to other unis, too).
Do you by any chance know how likely it is to get an offer in the 2nd or any later rounds from WSU?
Thanks

It is possible but there are limited offers and it really depends on your ranking. Overall there is probably a 10-15% chance of a 2nd round offer at best

I know that Nathan (student support) from WSU told another medstudent forum member that they do end up getting a fair way down their list in regards to offers.....See WSU interview or general forum for comments within the last 2 weeks. Nathan also told me that they do quite a few top ups (not sure if they do them informally via phone call or via UAC). If I get a UON top-up then I'm vacating my spot at WSU!! 😌 Fingers crossed for both of us!

Hey! I remember that post but just wanted to add that Nathan is the rural school community engagement officer for WSU and that comment was mentioned in a rural q&a entry session for rural applicants applying to WSU. So, I'm not sure how much that comment specifically applies for general applicants (or if it would apply).

I had a call with JMP with regards to this, they said that considering current acceptance rates, its very unlikely for UON or even UNE offers. Only a few are expected to go out in the following weeks

True. Good call.

Hi! I'm in need of some advice :)
I'm a non-standard applicant and I'm currently doing a summer unit at university but I just received an offer for medicine (UNE). I'm still not sure if I am going to take the med offer (due to location and other reasons) so I would love to keep the summer unit but I'm wondering if this will affect my offer?
For example if I do less than perfect at the unit and it brings down my GPA slightly, will the med offer (if I accept it) be affected?

Your offer isn’t conditional on you maintaining a certain GPA - once you’ve accepted (or in your case, presumably, deferred) it, it’s yours, obviously pending whatever timeframe they allow you to do defer it for.

Hey could anyone give me some advice about how to proceed. I am a South Australian student who got a 99.60 Atar and a 79th Percentile this year, but haven't been able to get any offers for medicine so far, which has left me quite dejected. I have already done year 13, so I really don't want to repeat another year again. Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

have you thought about doing non-standard or graduate entry? ofc taking into consideration the "common pitfalls" thread

Honestly, I don't know much about the non-standard entry. Does it mean that I start a degree at another university and then try to apply for medicine at university of newcastle, WSU etc.? I have thought about the graduate entry, but I feel that the UCAT might be easier than the GAMSAT (I have had a quick look at it), and I honestly would love the comfort of knowing that I am studying medicine. Otherwise I will be under a lot of pressure studying for the gamsat over the next three years or so...

Last year, I completed less than 1 FTE (0.67, to be exact) of university and this year, I will be completing 1FTE (hoping to transfer into medicine for 2023). I was wondering how my GPA will be calculated (will both degrees be taken into consideration, or will it only be my most recent one)?
