General Medicine Entry Discussion and Advice Requests

Hello everyone! This might be an obvious question, but I haven't been able to find a clear answer yet.
I am graduating this year and hopefully will be able to achieve a high enough atar for medicine.
I'm not able to do the UCAT this year. However If I sit the UCAT next year, whilst enrolled in an undergraduate
course (first year uni), and obtain a high UCAT score. Can I reapply as an undergraduate to UNSW or other unis
through UAC for a undergraduate med program. I understand there is the lateral entry program at UNSW, but is it possible reapply 'essentially' applying with the class of 2025 cohort or a gap year student (redoing first year uni and so on). or will my first year uni wam score be considered.

Any help or advice is greatly appreciated, thanks :))
Once you're enrolled in a uni degree course (past the census date) you're considered a non-standard applicant and limited to 5 med schools : UNSW, WSU, JMP, JCU and Bond.

See in this table the GPA / ATAR requirements for Non-standard
> [Undergrad] - (2023 Updated) Med schools Selection Criteria Y12s & Non-standards

Without a UCAT this year you can apply to non-UCAT schools JCU & Griffith/USC if you have a high enough ATAR.

Hi everyone!!! Just wondering if anyone knows which universities in Australia select their students first for admission to postgraduate medicine programs (not including pre-entry "guaranteed" admission programs)? For example, I know that Flinders Uni has a lower GAMSAT pass rate for interview invitations if you are a Flinders student. Are there any other universities that give their students a similar advantage? Thanks in advance! :)

Curtin only accepts current Curtin students as course-switchers to Med (until you have a completed degree, then you can apply as a non-standard).

UAdel only accepts current UAdel students as tertiary transfers to Med (unless you’re rural).

Monash only accept their own BSc, BBioMed, and BPhysio (? I think??) students for transfer to Med.

There may be others.

I am wondering what uni's to apply to as a non-rural Victorian student with a low UCAT (2670 and sjt 453) my raw atar is probably in the 97s (low 98 at most) but I am eligible for SEAS (health/income related adjustments). I'm thinking about flinders and JCU medicine/dent (preferably med) but idk if I have a good chance being interstate & non rural? What should I do?

I think the only schools you can try are JCU, and Bond if you can afford Bond's enormous fees.

With SEAS/UES boosting your ATAR to 99.95 for Flinders you still need UCAT around 3000 though.

If I take the UCAT while enrolled in university and then drop out to apply as a standard Year 12 leaver with my ATAR and UCAT, is this possible, or would I be consdiered a non-standard applicant due to my history of being enrolled in a university? Thanks.

You would have to drop out (withdraw) *before* the census date of the semester. After this date withdrawal still leaves you as having a tertiary academic record, thus non-standard applicant.

what med schools in australia if any might accept me with a 96 atar and 3140 ucat score

like ik newcastle and western sydney only need like a 95 atar but i was wondering how much this gets driven up by competition in reality

hii sat the ucat today & am a bit disappointed with my score -- was hoping to get over 3200
atar: 99.05 & ucat: 3150 (i'm a non-standard applicant)

Unless you're a rural student, that ATAR will preclude you from receiving an interview offer. The minimum ATARs that Uni's state is just that, a minimum. In reality if you're a domestic student you will need >99.xx to get in.

That's not the case for WSU and JMP, the ATAR requirement is a threshold at these two unis. A 99.95 ATAR has the same weighting as a 95 ATAR. It's just UCAT score and interview that are used for place offers.

If you’re a non-standard applicant then, depending on the Uni, your GPA and FTE study time by the end of this year is also relevant.

I thought most unis would take the best out of my gpa and atar
Also as a side note does anyone know if interview cutoffs are lowered if u request a bonded place in medicine, or is it just less-competitive

No, not necessarily. Depends how much uni you’ve done.

I don’t think BMPs come into play for interview invites, just place offers.

okk thx! yeah i'm first year uni so at the time they consider my application i'd only have completed two trimesters -- would they primarily consider my atar then?

If you’re enrolled to complete three trimesters, your full year result will be used.

JMP and JCU will only use that. WSU and UNSW will use best of, but UNSW has the caveat that you also have to pass the hurdle in both, only then does best of come into play.

I think Bond use a combo, but I’m not sure at what point.

Hi guys,

I don't know where to submit my statutory declaration on the SATAC website, the Supplying Documents to SATAC website states to "you can attach them electronically to your application," but after checking I could not find where to attach the document. I haven't finished my application because of this and I was just wondering if anyone knew where to submit it?
