General Medicine Entry Discussion and Advice Requests

Hi guys,

I don't know where to submit my statutory declaration on the SATAC website, the Supplying Documents to SATAC website states to "you can attach them electronically to your application," but after checking I could not find where to attach the document. I haven't finished my application because of this and I was just wondering if anyone knew where to submit it?
its in the 'documentation' label on the left hand column after you submit your application

Just before you submit, there should be a section labelled "Documents' and a subsection labelled "Upload personal documents" that should allow you to attach your declaration

Hi! I just wanted to clarify, if I have now completed one semester of university and am onto my second semester and am looking to apply to medicine, will they use a GPA or my atar from last year? or do they look at whichever is better? Thanks in advance!

Depends on the uni.

so I know university of newcastle has a threshold atar of 94.3, and I know that in reality you need much higher than this due to the competition, but how much higher do you generally need, based on past years? Like a 99+? Or would a 95 do? Also considering my ucat score is 3140. I just haven''t been able to find any statistics.
thank youu

This^ is true for some unis/med schools but not for all.
JMP/UoN in particular do not count ATAR into the ranking for interview invite or place offer. Sufficient UCAT gets an interview and the top interviewees get place offers whether their ATAR is 95.0 or 99.0.

A 95 ATAR will definitely be perfectly fine, however your UCAT may be the stumbling block. From memory, it’s around the requirement from previous years. Hopefully it doesn’t move too much/at all.

Best of luck!

Hi guys, im currently filling out the medicine application portal to apply for UNSW medicine, i have found out that im eligible for gateway and also have EAS, however, im not sure whether i should apply through the local application or under gateway since gateway only accepts up to 10 people? I am currently looking at a fairly competitive ATAR and have received a strong UCAT score, so i was wondering what would be the best option for me to apply under?

This depends whether the 10 places is a separate quota from or a sub-quota of the main pool.

If separate then yes gateway applicants would be limited to 10 places max. Otoh sub-quota means gateway applicants are eligible for the main-pool places as well as the 10 gateway places. I'd suggest you call UNSW Med to verify which is the case.

Hello, I am currently a year 12 student in New Zealand and I am considering going to Australia for med school.
I am picking my subjects for next year, year 13, and was wondering whether I need to have English as a subject specially or could I just have an English rich subject i.e history. Would picking history make a difference in my ATAR score wrt selecting English. Also do Australian med schools specifically require me to take English as subject?

Have a look in the Prereq column in this table
> [Undergrad] - (2023 Updated) Med schools Selection Criteria Y12s & Non-standards

English is required for many of the med schools. They won't accept English-rich History as substitute.

Without English you'd only be eligible for UNSW, WSU, JMP and Adelaide (unless you get 99.90-99.95 to add UMelb/USyd/Flinders).

Hey guys, I was wondering if I could get some info on my chances for an offer to med at any uni (but most likely UTAS). Sorry if this is the wrong forum to ask that (and pls direct me to the right one lol).

UCAT: 2640 (low ik lol, but was super busy and had no time to prepare)
ATAR: 97.5+
Other factors: RA3/MM5, TAS

Any help would be great !!

Being rural just apply to everywhere, 2640 may be sufficient to get some interviews.

I thought there was some scenario in UTAS where UCAT only counted for interview (above 50th percentile), and the requirements for an offer is a mixture of ATAR and rurality. I'm probably widely misled though.

You’re VERY widely misled.

UTAS don’t even have interviews.

Haha you're right. I meant to say for the process to receive an offer. I read somewhere here that above 50 percentile UCAT is the minimum for an offer (only needing above 50th to count for it), with ATAR, sub quotas, and rurality making up the rest of the choice on the UTAS's side for final offers.

Hello everyone,

Could some please provide some information on non-standard medicine entry (UCAT and GPA)?

-Do you know how many universities accept this application type via this pathway?

-And is it really sensible to go via this pathway?

-If I choose to do a bachelor degree after my year 12, would I be able to apply every year during my degree via non-standard?

Of the universities that offer this pathway; how many seats are allocated to these students?
