Griffith Griffith Dentistry: Admissions General Discussion

has anyone applied for griffith dent (as their first pref) and got a 6.85+ gpa over 1 year FTE (8 subjects) who did NOT get an offer ?
On website: This program is quota managed for which there is a limited number of places available to ensure that sufficient resources are available to support the students. Meeting the admission requirements for this program may not result in an applicant receiving an admission offer. ATAR: 99.80.
I believe the cut off for 2019 non standard was 6.85, so im interested to see what quotas they refer to - and how u would not get an offer even if you meet the requirements (or it cud just be a legal thing they have to write in case something fks up)

That just means that they cap the number of places in the course. The “admission requirements” are just referring to the minimum OP to be eligible as well as the prerequisite subjects, from my understanding - not the actual ATAR cutoff (which changes each year).

As others have said - they only have so many spots. Just covering their backs in the rare vent that they suddenly have far too many applicants with 6.85/99.8 ATARs (in which case quota may go up, or they will look at other differentiating factors e.g. length of study, GPA of past degree, etc.)

Generally speaking yes, but this isn’t always the case. The reason for Griffith’s high cutoff in particular is that they accept applications from non-standard applicants, and the conversion system used means those with 6.75+ GPAs (presumably) have equivalent ATARs above 99.5.

What is a equivalent of a 7GPA?
I spoke to someone and they said a 7.0 GPA is equivalent to a rank of 99 , but this is clearly less than the cutt off of 99.85 (on website).

Also, I was looking at older forums, and i saw someone with a 6.9 not get in, but a 6.875 did. Is anyone know of any existing secondary-rankings used ? (Although I am not certain on the reliability of this info, given it is an online forum)

There would’ve been an alternate reason for this e.g they miscalculated / calculated their GPA differently to how Griffith does it, they had less than 1FTE year of study, there was an issue transferring their results from their uni to QTAC that they weren’t aware of etc.

I imagine Griffith says GPA 7 = 99.95 ATAR.

Sorry but exactly where on what website does griffith talk about non school leavers entry into dental science?
It is not explicitly stated, but you know if it doesn't state that only high school students can apply, then Anyone can apply.

Just wanted to make sure that i did not miss out on anything in my application. (Sorry i am literally a worry wart ).

1. So do i just put in my preferences for Griffith uni dentistry in UAC and my tertiary and secondary education?
2. And do i also need to upload an academic transcript to UAC or does UAC get my academic results from uni (Melbourne uni)?

Thank you in advance as i dont want to miss out on an offer due to my stupidity in applying for dentistry. :)

Nope you should be all good. As long as you have a high enough GPA, UAC will fetch your results and then they will make you an offer.

I received a text message from qtac at 8:30am last year on their first round offer release day. I assume it should be similar this time around.
Griffith was my second preference for entry, I didn't get a text message or email until later in the day, but I was logged into QTAC refreshing and the offer was there at 8:30 on the dot.

what gpa did you apply with? I’m so worried that I might be missed out with my gpa 6.875😭

Don't worry; the Gpa cut off was a 6.875 last year and that was for the first round of offers. I would be very surprised if the cut off was above this as it has never been above that in recent times and I doubt that it will sit at a 7 GPA. So even if you do miss out the do top up offers which you will likely get if you are unlucky for the first round. Good luck :)

Thank you Cal! That makes me feel much relieved. I read someone wrote here he did miss out with his gpa 6.95 in 2017 and I was freaking out..🤢🤣

Lots of the time when people post conflicting information, like this, they might have miscalculated their GPA or even not know how Griffith calculated their GPA, so as long as you don't let things like that make you worried, you will be fine!
