Bear in mind that previous years' cut-offs were rank-scores, not percentages (that is, they were a combination of UMAT rank percentile and GPA). That means the scores were brought down - so in 2017 I had an average grade of 95% or so but my rank score was brought down to 93.4 (or something). The direct entry cut-off that year was around 91.3 -> that is the rank score, not the percentage people had. That meant people could have an average percentage of 95% but not get in because a bad UMAT could drag down the score. So last year's cut-offs aren't going to give an indication for this year as they're no longer using rank scores in the same way.

Yup, I had a 96% average last year but didn't get in to med because I had a bad UMAT and hence a poor rank score. I'm quite sure a 96% GPA will be safe this year, so don't be put off by the fact I didn't get in with a 96%!!! The Dent cut-off GPA however could be similar, or perhaps higher, since there was less health sci content this year (I commented before that my friend got an offer off the waitlist in mid Jan with a 91% average). Best to wait for a few more days and see. All the best everyone!!!!!!

Hi there, are you sure your numbers are correct? Because a 91.3 rank score is ludicrously high and the highest rank score ever recorded on MSO was around 91.23. According to Otago, the direct entry cutoff has been around 80-82 these past couple of years.

Um, hi. Please see our collated data here for last December's offers for the cohort starting early 2019: NZ Med and Dent Place Offers 2019 - Collated Data

I'm not sure if the ranking score you are talking about is the same as what Otago used in the past - which is a combination of raw UMAT score at 33% and HSFY average score (not the same as what grad entrants mean when they say GPA) at 67%. A ranking score in the 90s is incredibly high and as per the above post, our cutoffs from past years hover in the 80-82 range. From your description I suspect your idea of a ranking score may not be the same as ours, and ours is calculated in the way published by the admissions office.

All this being said, your central point, that past data should not be extrapolated to this year, remains valid.

Looking at past trends, we are anticipating that offers are likely to be released either end of this week or early next week. Exciting times - good luck all!

yeah you're right those numbers should be 83.4 and 81.3

So, if the offers are not out by 7am, can we assume that we’ll have to wait until Monday?
Nope. In 2011 the offers were out at something like 7-8pm. They are generally processed during a working day, and sent out some time after. It's not like StudyLink letters that only show up overnight (is that still a thing?)

If, however, they are not out by tomorrow (Saturday) morning, then they probably won't be out till Monday as I can't see the Admissions Office working the weekend.

Guys, not to be a buzzkill, but please refrain from trolling on offers this close to when they're expected out. It's one thing to do it on something like mid-semester test results coming out, or UCAT thresholds, or even exam results; but offers are a whole different level, and this is where we really expect a little more maturity.

In my application for pharmacy and dent I have a tick for "HSFY average mark" but not for med. Does this mean I didn't get into med? asking for a friend
