International Students: General Medicine Entry

oh, so you already did it haha. how was it?
It was really personal and really fast and furious HAHAHA idk if you’ve done it yet, but if you haven’t, just reflect on your life experiences so far, your feelings, your personality etc

For people who have received UNSW med offers, how long did it take after the interview on average?
I have friends who received offers in 5 days; I myself got an offer in 1 month and about 2.5 weeks. (That being said, apparently the officer in charge of releasing results was on leave for the whole of August…) The general consensus seems to be within two weeks.

UNSW sends rejection letters so no news is good news.

Hi,
May I know if there are a lot of scenario questions as the interview lasts about 30 minutes? Do they ask many questions based on the additional form about your life experiences? Thanks a lot!

for me, they were all life experiences and me as a person. No scenario, only personal opinions on my future aspects.

I was wondering if anyone could give me a decent idea of my chances applying to Undergrad Medicine at UNSW? I finished high school in Ontario in 2012 (average of my top 6 is 90%, but some of those courses I took after I completed high school, as correspondence courses). I didn't realize I wanted to pursue medicine until I was already working, but once I did I got my act together. I took a nursing degree, and my GPA on the 4.0 scale used by most American and Canadian schools is 3.92 (my university used a unique GPA scale where the highest GPA possible is 4.33, on that scale it's 4.09); much better than my high school marks. I also have volunteering activities I can list, I've coauthored 3 research papers, and I currently work full-time as an ICU nurse in eastern Toronto. I intend to write the ISAT next year, but I was wondering if I would even meet the bare minimum 96.00 ATAR cutoff? Any advice is appreciated.

Hey there! I'll preface my response by saying I'm not familiar with the international requirements for students at UNSW, so apologies in advance if this reply isn't too useful - the extent of my knowledge is that there is a conversion table somewhere, either on the UNSW website or UAC (Universities Admission Centre) website (the tertiary centre that allows you to put your university course preferences, at least for local applicants) that could help you in converting your university marks into "Australian" marks.

Had a quick search on google, and this bad boy popped up: Overseas qualifications. I assume you would be eligible, since you mentioned Ontario, but just check to be sure.

Had a google for that international conversion table here and this is what it is you are looking for, I'm pretty sure: https://www.unsw.edu.au/content/dam...2022_int-ug_guide-ug_entry_table_30.07_v2.pdf

There was a mention of Canada and British Columbia, that I've screenshotted here - not sure if either apply to you.

Given you saying that your university has a unique GPA scale, I'm unsure how UAC would interpret this - best to check with them personally by sending an email or giving them a call, I reckon. I'm also unsure of the process of converting your marks if they're not available here - your best bet would still be contacting UAC or the institution that manages your application to UNSW (assuming it's the same process for international students).

Needless to say as well, but nice work in improving your stats and getting some experience in research! In terms of interviews, there's some great advice on these forums. Chuck UNSW in the search bar and you may find a thread wholly dedicated to discussing that, though I'm unsure how useful the discussions would be for an international student.

As it stands now, UNSW medicine is a panel interview. From what you've said, I think it's clear you have some great experiences under your belt that would make you stand out in the interview - it would be a matter of conveying the relevant anecdotes/experiences that would be the biggest thing, I reckon :)

Good luck!

Does anyone know when Monash is sending interview offers to onshore international students (specifically for direct-entry, not graduate-entry)? Has any onshore student received an interview offer yet?

ya many friends has received interview offer, due to interview this week :)

I'm an international student for Aus currently studying NCEA in NZ. because I heard the offers for the international applicants come out earlier but my NCEA results come out in the January on the year after my exams. So does that mean that the university will give me conditional offer or would they give me an offer on January??
