International Students: General Medicine Entry

Hi, does anyone know hoe many of the 100 questions on ISAT corresponds to a 180 score or higher? I’m doing it soon and have no idea where I stand. Also apart from the ACER practice exams are there any practice materials you would recommend?

Someone I asked thought they had maybe 5-7 questions wrong and got around 188

Now I personally think I had at least 9-11 wrong LMAO cos i guessed 2 completely and half-guessed a bunch more. My breakdown was 188 (99%) CR 179 (71%) QR for an average of 184 (which explains the 94 percentile, as 188 is solidly 98-99%. Every point is a big jump in percentile once you reach the 180’s).

Ultimately no one really knows since according to ACER, it’s different every year.

As for the practice materials, the ACER tests are tbh the best representation of the questions… though I found them to be slightly easier than the actual test. I pretty much only did the papers ACER gave.

QR is definitely a section where you have to be strong at identifying patterns, doing quick calculations, and manipulating equations. You also have to be able to follow logical pathways/diagrams. But I feel like most people do better here HAHA which is why my 179 was only the 71 percentile…

CR is harder to do if your language isn’t as strong because there’s some reliance on literary devices as well as being able to infer conclusions/points from the text. You also have to form logical conclusions between texts (eg for similarities) and know how to argue for/against a certain point. I’d say the CR in the ACER test is closer in difficulty to the actual ISAT compared to the QR.

Thank you, that’s helpful! Also just wondering are you applying to Monash and UNSW med for 2023? Have you gotten an interview from them yet? I’m also applying to those 2 unis but I’ll be in the November round since my results come out later

Hi! Anybody applying for Monash/UNSW & got interview offers already? I'm from SG & would definitely love to connect w anyone applying too 👍🏻
Hi, I am applying to Monash and UNSW too. I would love to connect with anyone applying too. Please dm me coz I think I didn't make enough posts to let me dm others... I got an email interview invitation from UNSW on 6 July but still haven't had any news from Monash. Has anyone received an interview invitation from Monash already?

Would love to connect !!! I can do that over DMs here or on telegram HAHA

Same :”)

My friends have said 180+ for Monash and 170+ for UNSW (though I’m not so sure about UNSW). They agree the percentile is generally more important, though.

Sorry for dropping off the face of the earth guys haha but pumped to get to know you :)
bit concerned...i got a 182 (did test in 2021) but only 91st percentile...is that still considered competitive lol

Talked to my agent and he said Monash should be releasing interview invites either today, or early next week (he called them up). They encouraged applicants to check their inboxes regularly. All the best everyone!

Hi! i'm applying to unsw and uwa.. i recently had my interview with unsw but have not heard from them yet. can I ask how long does it take for the interview outcome to be out after the interview? thanks

A friend of mine who applied for 2023 entry earlier in the year (interview late April) received her offer in early May, around 10 days after interviewing. So estimated about 2 weeks? I also recently had my interview with UNSW and have not heard back from them yet.

ohh ic, thanks! when did u do your interview? mine was on 21st july.

Hey guys. I’m really glad I found this group. I have a few questions regarding entry, and in particular regarding international admissions to Flinders and UQ.

I probably require a second bachelor in order to be considered (it’s been a long time). Do you guys think that doing an accelerated nursing program (2 years) is a good idea in terms of earning a decent GPA that’s needed for admission?

Further, we get a choice between GAMSAT and MCAT, but I feel like MCAT has more study materials.

Cant really help you with the rest of the question, but there's enough GAMSAT materials that it will take you a life time to get through it all. You should look into the specifics of the tests and youre strength and weaknesses as an applicant instead of sheer 'study resources' - e.g. my impression in MCAT science is alot more theoretical, whilst GAMSAT is alot more deductive.

I was just looking at Flinders requirements for a different reason and they clearly specify they don’t have a 10 year recency of study requirement like some unis do, so you may not need a new degree to be eligible there (if time and not GPA is your concern - which I assumed from your “it’s been a long time” comment). I assume this holds true for both domestics and internationals. Could be worth an enquiry.
