JMP JMP: General Entry Discussion

Yes I got bonded then unbounded at UoN so I can happen. People pull out right up to the very start.
hey! i'm currently bonded for UoN. do you know if me becoming unbonded is a possibility now?

I tried calling UoN multiple times, but they didn't pick up. I called UAC - according to them, because JMP bonded and unbonded have the same course code, I cannot receive the same offer twice.

If UAC is right and bonded --> unbonded is possible, do I need to keep my JMP preference on UAC for this upgrade to happen??

any idea on how the JMP is in terms of allocation for Newcastle and Armidale?

I am familiar with Newcastle but not so much on Armidale.

Im also hearing that some students dont have a say as to where they can or can't go. Im figuring that I can do Med now based on my Masters Coursework.

I don't remember the exact numbers anymore but let's go with approx 110 UoN places + 60 UNE places.
Allocation is by your preference + your interview ranking. To keep it simple assume every applicant preferences UoN over UNE, that would mean you need to rank in the top 110 (out of 700-800 interviewees) to get UoN. If you rank below 110 then by your turn all UoN places have been taken, you get UNE despite your UoN preference.

And you're right you don't have a say, not even to beg JMP for a swap.

How are people placed in Central Coast Clinical School? And do you know in what cases JMP offers you to swap campuses? I was asked whether I wanted to move from Newcastle to CCCS because of a small number of vacancies (this was a few days after Round 1), but I'm not sure on what basis I was chosen for (I didn't preference CCCS at all, but maybe it's bc I live in Sydney??) I'm asking this because my friend from UNE is wondering if it's possible for JMP to offer a change in campus from UNE to Newcastle :)

It's not possible unless you have super extenuating circumstances e.g. you have a health condition where specialists aren't available in Armidale for treatment but are available in Newcastle or have a dying relative in Newcastle ect. It isn't just done because someone wants to live in Newcastle lol

I got an email from UAC saying that I didn't meet the additional selection criteria for the JMP. I was wondering whether anyone could tell me what this means as I sat my interview last week and my GPA is above the academic threshold. Thanks

Does JMP have any it's second round offers released today? on the 25th of jan.
I was hoping for an offer today but haven't heard anything. My two other (very high achieving) friends haven't received any offers either and my other friend waiting for midwifery from Newcastle hadn't heard anything either. One of the girls rang UAC who said that UoN would be in contact later this morning but I haven't heard anything yet. Wondering now if they sent out any second round offers lel.

Can anyone else shed any light on the situation?

Also heard from somewhere else that offers would be rolling throughout the day but I thought that all offers were available from 7:30 am on UAC so idk what's going on anymore lel

There have been occasions when JMP don’t participate in the formal rounds following the first UAC one and instead make subsequent offers via phone/text individually. They MAY not be participating in this round.

Oh okay damn, thanks for the info. Well I just cancelled my Newcastle accommodation to get the refund so it'd put me in an awkward spot if I did manage to get an offer lel.

My experience of late offers is that they phone you, and you get a day or two to decide; if you accept then a UAC offer follows; if not then they don't hold it against you for next year though you have to resit (and qualify) the UCAT, redo interviews etc.

I understand that as of yesterday, UNE has received 50 (of ~65 places) acceptances from the first round - not sure about UoN.

Does anyone know if JMP UoN accept credit transfers from previous studies?
No, not previously and I don’t think this has changed. From memory, JCU used to be the only undergrad Med course that did but they have wound right back on that, too.

JMP only does credit transfers for compassionate reasons like if you had a sick or dying relative living in Newcastle and/or is being treated at John Hunter Hospital. And even then, you have to submit a whole bunch of documentation and statements.

We are talking credit transfers from previous related degrees (aka Recognition of Prior Learning) not campus transfers (which seems to be what you’re talking about?).

Oh ooops yea, you're right, I was thinking about credit transfers for med programs (which I wish I could do lel).

Although campus transfers and by extension recognition of prior learning between med programs from different universities are possible based on compassionate grounds, see JMP - Joint Medical Program Schedule / Document / UON Policy Library / The University of Newcastle, Australia - Section 10, clauses 28 and 29.

They are but they are very very very rare. In all my time here at MSO and with people asking about them semi-regularly, I've heard of only a single one being successful.
