Yeah it makes sense, the unis would want to avoid setting a precedent for 'unnecessary transfers' which is fair tbh. Still doesn't stop me wishing I could've gotten into med at newy tho.

Hey Guys,

Not sure if it's the same context, but I got an offer to transfer from UNE to UON this year.
Out of curiosity what year of the program are you in or did you only get your offer to study this year and they offered a transfer randomly?
I graduated year 12 in 2022, so I got my offer to study this year, and I just got an email (rather recently) talking about how I initially put Newcastle as my preference, and due to students rejecting, there were now vacancies, so they offered a transfer to UON from UNE.
A1 adds: It's pleasing to know JMP has done that. In a previous year they had a UoN decline and the top-up got UoN, despite ranking lower than those who got unpreferred UNE earlier.

Not quite the same context but, as A1 mentioned, this is good to hear and possibly represents a policy change for JMP.

Apparently an unprecedented number of declines this so UON are poaching from UNE.
I don't think it's poaching at all. UoN could give top-up offers to a dozen next-in-line applicants. But JMP does the right thing by offering them to UNE-getters who had preferred UoN, then offers UNE top-ups.
Hey guys, just wondering who you would need to get in touch to speak about transferring from UNE to UON for an offered received in 2021 but deferred to this year. It seems like UON has a high vacancy due to rejections and seems like worth a shot at giving them a call for a transfer. Any help will be most definitely appreciated as I am extremely desperate at this stage. Thanks!
That is not likely to be granted as the places for UON are offered based on the merit list of the interviewed students for the entry year. This means those from last year would not be considered for a UON place as you would not have a ranked place

I am currently a 2nd year student at uni and want to get into JMP med and I'm very confused as to whether my ATAR or my GPA will be used.
At 1st year uni sem 1 I did: 4 courses which was full time
1st year sem 2: 3 courses (not full time)
2nd year sem1: 3 courses (not full time)
2nd year sem2: 3 courses (not full time)
Would this put me as t 1FTE student or would they use my ATAR instead of GPA?
Also, just to confirm, would my ATAR/GPA be used as a hurdle? ie if I meet the minimum requirement, my score wouldn't matter.
Any response would be very help thank you

1FTE is 8 courses (whether done in 1 or 2 or 3 years). JMP will definitely use your GPA, you need to be over the ~4.7 hurdle then it's on UCAT to get an interview and on the interview to get an offer.
I see in another post you got UES-boosted 99.95, which means ATAR 97+. You are also good for WSU hurdle since they use best of between ATAR/GPA.
Sounds like both your ATAR/GPA are not competitive enough for UNSW, probably not for JCU either (but worth a try). Focus on getting an excellent UCAT for the other two schools. Good luck.

Unless recently or soon changed JMP does not discriminate against interstate applicants. The only "disadvantage" for QLD applicants is they are mostly invited to interview at UNE (since UNE is closer to QLD haha), but that does not affect your chances of getting a UoN offer if you prefer UoN.Is there a disadvantage to applying for JMP as an interstate applicant (QLD)? FYI non rural, non-standard applicant

I thought that people might like to know how Uon and UNE offers are allocated as my son who is at UNE and who had previously achieved an ATAR of 99.8, has just had it explained by one of his lecturers. His lecturer explained that each year the top students are divided into two groups and offered unbonded places - 2/3 to UoN and 1/3 to UNE - this ensures the cohorts are well balanced with the top ranked students (who are ranked according to interview but also previous academic achievement and preferred campus) spread between the two universities. The next group of students are offered Bonded places - once again 2/3 to UoN and 1/3 to UNE.
This year there was a problem because more students than usual were also offered places at UNSW and other universities and UoN subsequently replaced them by offering some of the highly ranked UNE students who had initially preferenced UoN, places meaning that the cohorts were then 'unbalanced'. So in effect Andrew Barker above was right - UoN poached from UNE and although the students were probably happy, UNE was not!
My son was upgraded from his bonded to unbonded offer at UNE before he started and although he like most of the students had initially wanted UoN, he is loving UNE and has made some fantastic friends. He said the cohort is really tight because it's small and he's been able to get to know students in every one of the first 3 years, and he would definitely recommend life at UNE and Armidale. He does plan to specialize as an anaesthetist and is excited by the prospect of training in and working as a Rural GP anaesthetist and he feels he's been very well supported by his lecturers and fellow students at UNE.
So please don't discount UNE if you're offered a place there over UoN. The program is exactly the same, just run in a different environment and every NSW medical student has the same opportunity to work as an intern in any the top NSW hospitals.
Hi there, I'm hoping to get into JMP next year and am about to sit the UCAT. I'm rural, and I know the rural UCAT cut-off last year was 2620. I was just wondering if it usually gets higher each year? Or if it is likely to stay around the same level? Any insight would be much appreciated!
When I was applying 2 years ago I think it was around 2550. I would expect it will increase at least slightly, and the best way is obviously to aim as high as you can! Try and crack 3000. Good luck!

I sat my UCAT yesterday and got a 3150 which I'm pretty stoked with. I graduated in 2022 with a 99.60 ATAR. I'm really hoping for a shot at UoN for next year - does anyone have insight into what the UCAT cut-off is likely to be for 2024? As far as I know, it was 3040 in 2021 and 3100 in 2022. Surely it can't keep increasing by the same increment each year, right?
