Does anyone know how JMP considers bonded preferences between uni campuses. For example, if I indicated I would accept a place in both campuses but Newcastle preferred would they consider it like:

1. Newcastle CSP
2. Newcastle BMP
3. Armidale CSP
4. Armidale BMP

or

1. Newcastle CSP
2. Armidale CSP
3. Newcastle BMP
4. Armidale BMP

I'm probably going to end up emailing them and asking regardless.

Let's leave the 50 rurals out for simplicity, JMP will rank the remaining from 1 to 120 - the top 86 CSP (with 55 places at UoN), bottom 34 BMP. Say you rank 71st and all UoN CSP spots have been filled by the top 70 then you get CSP at UNE.

Would you then really want to consider a swap from UNE CSP to UoN BMP?

Just a heads up that you only do the first two (maybe three?) years in Armidale, I believe. Then it’s back to Newcastle/wherever you’re assigned clinically.

If you're at UNE you do your first 3 years in Armidale and then your next 2 years are at clinical sites. For clinical years, you can do 1 year at most at a rural clinical site unless you apply for special consideration. So at most you'll do 4 years in Armidale. It's definitely possible to do your last 2 years in Newcastle.

For placements in Years 4 and 5 at JMP, do we get to choose where we go, and if so, what are the general requirements? (eg. If we have to do ‘x’ amount in metropolitan areas, and ‘y’ amount in rural areas)

After we complete the five years, would it be difficult to find a spot and complete the internship year outside Newcastle/NSW?

Hey - where did you indicate this? There is nothing in UAC for this as it's just JMP correct? Did you mean in terms of the JMP form you submitted?

You preference where you want to go in 2nd year. There's no requirements for your clinical years. You can do at most 1 clinical year at a rural site, unless you request special consideration. As far as I know, you can apply for anywhere in NSW. For other states you'd have to look at how they preference interstate applicants.

For sydney-siders, the closest you can go to get back home is Gosford (a 1-1.5h train ride away). Many choose to live in Sydney and travel up. Otherwise Newcastle, Taree, Tamworth, Armidale is your next pick.

For purposes of internship applications in NSW, JMP grads are considered category 1 so no, it is not difficult to complete internship in Sydney at the very least. A bit harder outside NSW but that's a bit more complicated

I don't think there's a rural quota off memory? It is definitely a lot easier for them to score an interview - ie lowered atar and UCAT cutoffs, but they're considered equals after that as far as I'm aware - but hey might have changed recently I wouldn't know

JMP webpage says the target is to see 30% of students from rural locations. This can be achieved by either selecting 30% of interviewees from rural applicants (and let probability works its magic), or keeping rurals in a separate pool with a quota of 51 place offers.

I'm inclined to think it's the latter, since 2-3 years ago there was a case of a declined UoN place being offered to one effectively on the waitlist. A CSP at less-preferred UNE felt that was unfair since he would have ranked higher than the waitlist thus he should be given that UoN spot and the waitlist person to get his UNE spot. Turned out the declined spot was from a rural so was offered to a rural, indicating they are in a separate pool.

How much does the PQA contribute to the selection process? Is this a timed exam? (Not sure if 2nd question breaches confidentiality)

They are currently interviewing local (inc Qld and ACT, I believe) and rural applicants. Interstate non-rurals will be interviewed in late-Jan. They also interview indigenous applicants separately again and via a different process.
