Monash Monash Medicine: General Entry Discussion

Woah that’s a bit surprising. There were only about 11 people in total yesterday during the 2 circuit session I was at yesterday (5 people didn’t show up/spots weren’t filled)
Woah everyone showed up today - I did a quick head count and it was a full 32 I think. Do you know anything about the session before/after yours yesterday ("the other 16 2-circuit group")?

Attendance currently stands at 43/48 with 16 unaccounted for.

My 2 circuit group started at 1 and there definitely wasn’t a session after that. Not sure about before that though. The registration time was 12 so I have no clue if they had sessions a lot earlier in the morning that day.

Holddd uppp at 12 o'clock you only saw 11 people? Registration was 12 o'clock for both 1 pm and 3 pm sessions today, meaning I saw all 32 people at 12 o'clock. If you only saw 11 yesterday at 12, perhaps only 32+11=43 people showed up for an interview?

I’m 90% sure of 11 people. 100% 13 people max. Could there have been early morning sessions like 9am though?

There were no morning sessions available for the 22nd, I logged in within minutes of the invitation email. I didn't look to check the 21st, but I assume something similar. Hey perhaps everyone gets an offer this time round :D

There were no morning sessions available for the 22nd,

In my year Monash held the 4 med sessions on one day (the next day was for non-med). The next year was to be similar but the med day clashed with Unsw, after Mana wrote to Monash they changed med to 2 sessions each day. I think it has been 2 sessions x 2 days since.

Oh there's still two sessions, just at 1pm and 3pm rather than AM and PM. Probs easier on the interviewers. However if what Gukndn saying is correct, there was only a single session on the 21st (at 1 pm)?

I meant Monash used to run 4 med sessions (2 AMs + 2 PMs) on one day. Then changed to 2 AMs day1 + 2 PMs day2. The second part matched what you saw, but the 1pm session on day1 is unusual.

Yup there was only one at 1pm. The student helpers told us that that was it for the day after our mmi and there were also no other students present part from the original 11.
Maybe there could’ve been an AM session on the 21st which was already full when I booked mine (mine was a top up interview)

Are you sure there weren't 2 AM med sessions on 21st i.e. the 1pm was the third?

When I was making my booking it said that all interviews are held in the afternoon and registration is at 12. I’m not sure if this is because they did not have any AM session or whether because the AM sessions were full already as my top up invite arrived a few days after first round invites were sent out.

Anyhow it looks like Monash interviewed 75 interstates this year (64 in the usual 4 sessions + the 11 specials). You guys are all over-achievers this year - I mean the interview cutoff was so high yet there are still 75 of you :D

Where did you find this out? Does Monash release this information?

Interviewing just 11 on day1 + 32 day2 would be unusually too few. More likely Monash held the usual 4 sessions over two days (like previous 2-3 years) but only 2 circuits each, and needed an extra session which was the 1pm 21st.

Just spoke to a friend who logged into book an interview the minute the emails went out and he said that both the 21st and 22nd had 1pm and 3pm sessions i.e. there were no AM sessions to speak of. This deepens the mystery further - I can personally confirm 32 people showed up today (16 for 1pm and 16 for 3pm) but Gukndn is saying that only 11 people showed up to the 1pm session yesterday and there was no-one else around. Did the 3pm session get cancelled or something? That makes only 43 interviewees total.

This is what booking looked like: (is this allowed to be shared on MSO?)

Because registration is always 12:00 PM, Gukndn should've seen 3pm interviewees sitting alongside if there were any.

Just a new thought, maybe Monash allowed some interstates interview together with the locals so as a result there were less interstates at the interstate session but overall still the same number (60ish) of interstates interviewing overall

Unsw has done that since they have the equal cutoff policy. Unheard of for Monash since they wouldn't know where to cut off for an interstate in the local interview round.

but @Gukndn is saying that only 11 people showed up to the 1pm session yesterday and there was no-one else around.

Alright I stop imagining bad news for you guys. We all agree 43 interviewed for 30-40 spots (but don't hold me to it haha).

At this point I'll do anything I can to believe that its 30-40 spots for 43 interviewees hahaha I'm desperate :p:p

Do you know how many unbon /bondedoffers
