Monash Monash Medicine: General Entry Discussion

Do you know how many spots are for unbonded? I only applied unbonded.

I think in general the schools will keep the set aside places to the same ratio 72% unbonded 28% bonded. But imo Monash should make all interstate offers unbonded considering their scores are way higher than the lower-end locals.

Thanks. Your are so nice.

That reminds me, I've always wanted to ask this: where do the ERC places fit in?

Also, of the ~200 Vic offers, I'm assuming most of the rejections will be for BMPs, as the increased ROS period may have put off a lot of people, especially if they have an unbonded place elsewhere. Monash better not be giving us interstates all the leftover BMPs...

We don't know how many, could be zero could be some number, ERC places in the 30-40 places for interstates, so not possible to speculate.
No just ERC places in general, where do they fit in the grand scheme of things?

For other med schools, assuming 200 places altogether, allocating CSPs and BMPs is simple: rank all students from first to last place, then give the first 140 CSPs and the next 60 BMPs. Put the remaining of students on the waiting list.

Now for Monash: once they've ranked all applicants and need to give out 200 places, who gets the CSPs, BMPs and ERCs?

First 120 get CSPs? Next 40 get BMPs? Ranks 161-200 get ERCs? I've always wanted to know whether Monash considers ERCs to be "better" or "worse" than BMPs? Is there such thing as a BMP ERC? So many questions haha

I think Monash ranks applicants and then give them their first preference until that runs out.
e.g. if rank 1 puts BMP over CSP they would get a BMP.
so if you are lower down then I think it would just depend on what is left but I could be wrong!

+ ERC is non bonded.

Hey! Does anyone know when those who have accepted a bonded place will get more information on the requirements of the bonded place? As in, I heard we have to sign some contracts or atleast Monash would be sending some more information our way?

Dear LMG,
I have accepted unsw but not enrolled yet. I am waiting for Monash second round offers as I am from Melbourne.should I wait until second round offers and then enrol ?
UNSW starts on 17th Feb , I have to be there on 10 for orientation week.
I did my Monash interview well. 6 out of 8 stations were stations which came in previous years. Lot of my friends with much lesser scores got through . Not station the examiner phone kept ringing and she complained she was hungry.other station the examiner was sleeping . Rest were good.

You can enrol at UNSW now and then, if you do get a top-up Monash offer, you can withdraw from UNSW quite easily and without penalty. Check if there is a date you must enrol into UNSW by, because if there is, and it passes, and then you don't end up with a Monash offer, you will miss out on both.

does monash do second round offers for domestic victorian students? And would it be together with the interstate applicants?

Definitely does second round and top up offers even later. I had a friend receive an offer a few days before enrolement day.

Hey guys,
Just wondering, would putting a BMP place as my first preference increase my chances of receiving an offer? (Idc if i get bmp or csp).

No. If you ONLY put CSP, you’ll limit your chances, but putting BMP first won’t increase them. Put both, and you’ll receive whatever you qualify for.

Are u sure?
Like lets say i get an interview and then don't qualify for a CSP place (my first preference), will they then consider me for a BMP place (my second preference) or rather give the BMP place to someone who had BMP in their first preference. Like surely they go down the list of ur preferences... Right?

If you have BMP listed and you qualify, then you’ll get the offer, regardless of where others have their preferences. They won’t skip over you to someone with a lower score, just because that person has BMP as their first preference.

If you put BMP as your first preference, you’ll only get a BMP even if you could have received a CSP.

If you put CSP and BMP, you’ll get whatever you qualify for.

LMG is spot on here.
Here’s a good video to understand how VTAC works —>
Essentially with VTAC the University is sent an application for every preference you have and the University will say yes or no to every preference as well. Then VTAC will go on to show you only the highest preference ‘Yes’ you received. This means that putting BMP on top does not make a difference to the likelihood of receiving an offer. It will only mean that in the case the university says ‘yes’ to both BMP and CSP, VTAC will only allow you to accept the BMP.
