Non-standard Medicine Entry

Does that mean you don't have to meet the 91 ATAR Requirement and solely use your GPA if you have done more than 0.75 FTE? What is an equivalent GPA of 91?
They are two separate criteria. If you have done less than 0.75 FTE UNSW only uses your ATAR.
If 0.75+ FTE it's 'best of' GPA or ATAR provided they are 70+ WAM *and* 96+ ATAR (or 91+ for rural), before the 'best of' is allowed.

So the GPA equivalent of 91 is not relevant

i.e. UQ requires you to give them an address each for: Permanent address, Postal Address and Semester address (three in total). Here, my permanent and postal addresses are still based in NSW while my semester address is under Queensland for the purpose of concession travel fairs.
I have not found the current one, only this 2008 Form but presumably the conditions are still the same
> https://www.westernsydney.edu.au/__...Statutory_Declaration_GWS_Applicants_2008.pdf

Notes:
1. It's a Statutory Declaration, federal penalty for false declaration is up to 4 years imprisonment.

2. It's stated in the form "Applicants who have lived in the areas defined as Greater Western Sydney for at least five years immediately before they would commence in the course ...".

So it's really up to you whether you are comfortable with making this SD.

Hi guys,
I'm now starting study for a new degree in semester 2. I've had a long history of many incomplete university degrees that I've discontinued, where health issues got in the way. Well, I'm trying again this semester for a new degree at USYD and wanted to apply to study medicine next year. I'm applying to WSU only (as after this semester I would only have 4 units completed, and don't have a competitive ATAR). I just wanted to make sure there were no stipulations in doing units I've previously failed in prior courses, and that a full 24 credit points (4 units) was equivuilant to the 40 credit points (4 units, 10 credit points each) they calculate at WSU. I heard through a friend that OLE (open learning environment units that are available at USYD) wouldn't be counted by UAC (I'm unsure the vailidity of this) and just wanted to be extra careful with how I'm going about things.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Did you ever find out if OLE units count or not? I have done quite a few and I am a bit worried now.

Hi everyone! I was wondering what a high UCAT was to be considered for a transfer to JMP or WSU from another med school. I saw a post earlier that said that 3060 would not be high enough, but I was also wondering if this would be lower for rural non-standard entry applicants? Also, what would be a good reason for transferring on the application? (I’m sure you can tell I really want to transfer). Thanks :)

Unfortunately you have to have extreme extenuating circumstances to go between med schools, and even then your chances are slim. Have a read of this thread:
Unless you're in a provisional program where you do an undergrad first - in that case you can apply to start from scratch

If you mean a transfer between med schools under personal circumstances it's quite rare and UNSW for example requires you to have a discussion and a letter of support from your current med school Dean.

If it's a "transfer" by competitive entry it's simply applying for 1st year entry as a uni student. I think WSU does not allow this to current med students, only JMP and 3060 UCAT is good for rural. You don't need to give a reason for applying.

Hi,
I'm a year 12 student, who desperately want to get into med however I'm worried that my ATAR and UCAT might not be high enough for me to get straight into medicine (as I moved to Australia from a non-English speaking background)

I did attend the Gateway Program of UNSW and got advices to do other degree such as Bachelor of medical science then later resist the UCAT and apply into Doctor of medicine.

I also heard that you need to be the top of your class in order to do this pathways, can someone please explain this pathway in more detailed and whether I should study this course or should I study Bachelor of Science, sit the Gamsat and apply to post-grad medicine instead.

Thank you so much in advanced
Medical science is highly discouraged.

But if you’re in the Gateway program, consider applying to UNSW Gateway Entry Scheme for Medicine :)

Hello, My daughter got low ucat but hoping 99+ Atar. We live in Victoria (non rural). She doesn't want to take gap year and planning to do bachelor of science degree at Melbourne university if she won't be accepted at jcu or bond. How much ucat score and GPA need to get accepted as non standard. We live in Victoria, can we still apply interstate? How much chances?

Apart from JCU & Bond your daughter can apply nonstandard to UNSW GPA 6.5+ UCAT 92+%ile, JMP GPA 4.8+ UCAT 95+%ile, WSU GPA not important she has qualified on 99+, UCAT 95-98ish %ile depending on the VR score.

Hey everyone, just a quick question.
I’m planning on applying non standard this year and was wondering how unis will receive our GPAs? Will the current uni I’m studying at get contacted and they’ll send it through (esp for jcu and unsw)? Also, how does GPA conversions work. For example, mine is a 3.75/4 on the 4 point scale so does that convert to 6.75 or 6.56 ((3.75/4)*7) using the 7 point scale?

Yes, your uni will provide transcript details.

And you can’t convert GPA like that. You need to go through each unit and covert to a 7 point score then add them up and then divide by total units.

A unit result can be scored in a couple of ways
ie. score/100 or grade (credit, distinction, etc)

There are two options from here
Some unis use:
50-59 pass
60-69 credit
70-79 distinction
80+ high distinction

While others are 85+ high distinction (and maybe some differences further down the line too - I’m not 100% sure)

Thanks for getting back to me, that helps a lot. I got 3 HDs and 1D, given I’ve only studied for one sem, so that’ll probably equate to 6.75 right if I were to use a 7 point scale rather than the 4 point scale my uni normally uses?

Yep, that’s correct, but assuming you’re enrolled this sem too, those marks will also be included once available.

Hey guys,

For Adelaide uni med/dent are the UCAT cutoffs strict? I should have a GPA of 6.875 by the end of the semester but I didn't do that well in the UCAT. Does that mean someone who meets the UCAT cutoff but gets a lower GPA than me will still have a higher chance of getting an offer/interview?

Yes^, but only sort of > https://medstudentsonline.com.au/forum/attachments/gpa-atar-jpg.2890/

Beware this table is 10+yo we still refer to it as we have not found any newer better ones.
Though it tops out at 6.5+ = 99.50, I came across a case where a non-standard was converted to 99.60+ so

My best guess is : 6.5 = 99.50 , 6.6-6.7 = 99.60 , 6.8-7.0 = 99.70.
I saw A1's guess about conversion of GPA to ATAR, and have also looked at the conversion table. Just wondering if this guess would also apply to first-years (I think 1 FTE) or do we think GPA is still capped at around 98ish for first years? Cheers!

Your uni study is counted as of end of year. If you complete the full 8 subjects in first year it'll be 1 FTE. The rank 98 cap is for 0.5-0.99 FTE according to the table

Yes, a high GPA can’t make up for a UCAT result that is below the threshold required to secure an interview. Someone with a lower GPA, but a UCAT above the eventual threshold will receive an interview invite, while the higher GPA but UCAT below threshold will miss out.

Hi all, i am currently doing a biomed degree at bond university and was hoping to try and apply for non-standard entry for med next year. I current have a 3.125/4 gpa and got a ucat of 2880. Realistically, what university could I apply to, if any? Thanks for the help, its kinda confusing what unis have non-standard application from all the forums chats here :).

I think I’ve screwed my 2 years at uni up and basically threw 2 years down the drain. It’s sad how one bad year can have such a big impact on your grades. Honestly I don’t know what I can do at this point.

Do I finish and do a grad diploma?

Do I start another bachelors?

Do I give up on med altogether??

Reading through the data, my GPA or projected GPA for if I do well this semester is nowhere near the competitive GPAs of the past for JCU non-rural.

And my dream uni - Curtin - requires 80% minimum for a bachelor degree to apply, and due to last year, I won’t be able to raise my CWA high enough in time by the end of my degree. Even if I did well in a grad dip, if they still consider my bachelors it wouldn’t make a difference.

I wanted to hopefully try and get in while i am young enough to have a few peers around my age - that’s only if I was able to get in.

I don’t know what to do
