Offers UTAS 2017 (Discussion)

That's the original question.

No one knows or even believes it is likely.
My question, (to which you said was most likely probable) was is it possible that there has been an influx of high UMAT achievers to UTAS in addition to the normal yearly cohort. Obviously a misunderstanding there.

Anyway, seems like no one is buying admission's claim of a doubling of applicants.

Hi everybody, this morning my figurative stars aligned and at 7:30am I received an email offer to study the unbonded MBBS at WSU! It wasn't my first preference (it was my second, after JMP), and moving state at such short notice would be super difficult logistically and financially, but after looking into it I started to get excited and determined to make it work. Then, after falling asleep in relief (exhausted because I couldn't sleep last night, knowing that NSW second round offers would be released this morning), I woke up refreshed at 10:30am to a bonded UTas offer email! So I immediately emailed WSU to decline their offer (hopefully giving great news to the next person on their wait list!) and enrolled in the UTas course! I really hope I see you guys there - you've been super supportive to me and you all deserve it so much. My theory is that another applicant (probably from NSW) rejected their UTas offer this morning because they received a second round NSW offer this morning, so I got their spot! I hope this continues to happen for other local Tasmanian applicants, as other states continue to release offers and interstate people relinquish their prior UTas offers in favour of an offer in their home state.

Congrats!! You must be so relieved lol

Congratulations!!! Can you please tell your scores if you don't mind?

Hey guys, I've been lurking on this thread for a while and thought I may as well contribute something! But firstly thanks so much to everyone here (especially LMG), all of your information has been so useful in keeping up to date in what has been a very anxiety inducing wait for information from UTAS!

I'm going into my second year of medical research at UTAS with guaranteed entry into med in 2019. I applied for med this year at utas, unsw and uws, and got interviews at the latter two, however having just settled into life in tassie (used to live in Melb) and loving it at Jane Franklin (10/10 would recommend), I wasn't keen on moving again and turned down the interviews. So still just praying along with everyone else for a second round UTAS offer :(

Btw my GPA is 6.5 and umat 95 (57, 71, 60 - 188 total). And best of luck to everyone still waiting!

Welcome aboard!! What a crazy ride it's been.

I'll add your details to our evolving 'Masterlist'. :)

As I read in a 2014 thread, is it true that if you continue on with MedRes you will in 2019 enter 2nd year of MBBS?

If true then it's not so bad after all, total 7 years same as other provisional offers or the GAMSAT pathway.

I think this used to be the case, but isn't anymore? @EJM could also advise.

I'm afraid LMG is right and we now enter into 1st year. Apparently while our anatomy and physiology after doing medres would be sufficient for second year med, we would be too far behind on clinical skills. However I'm not complaining, because when it comes to it 8 years of study is still better than having no guarantee into med.

Your anatomy is definitely not up to scratch from BMedRes - can confirm as graduated student. But defs true about lack of clinical skills.. it's a shame because the guaranteed students from my year went straight into second Year Med!

Did they go into second year Med in 2016, which means they started MedRes in 2013?

If Zosky taught you physiology this year you'll cruise through, but they don't offer gross anatomy with cadaver dissection much to Derek's dismay. For my year group those students had to do anatomy and clinical skills with the medical students when we were in third year.
