Offers UTAS 2017 (Discussion)

UTas only look at the most recent three semesters for GPA as far as I'm aware, so my most recent semester should hopefully be straight HDs and will kick out the earliest of the prior three semesters from the overall calculations.

Eg. Using semester A, B and C my GPA is 6. Using semester B, C and D (yet to be graded) my GPA will hopefully be 6.7.

That makes sense. Though RIP for me, this last sem i did terribly cause last sem of degree literally hardest units crammed into 1 sem

Which Uni are you at? I think UTAS results were released last week. Are you still waiting on yours?

Also, for other people reading, if you have a completed Masters or PhD, then your GPA is automatically 7.0/7.0 at UTAS.
Studying at UoN currently, I believe my results will be released December 9.

Have you also applied to JMP? And if so, did you get an interview?
Yes and yes, JMP is actually my first preference. I interviewed on Wednesday 22 November! I also interviewed at UWS :)

I've already graduated UTAS with a doctorate, but I'm currently enrolled (very, very part time because I work full time) in a Masters of Public Health. I've only done 4/12 units towards that so far though.

Good luck with your JMP application! Do you feel confident re. your interview performance? And when is your WSU interview?

o
Hopefully 92nd%ile, Ricky!! Because that's what I have! I'd say anything above 180 (raw) would be competitive, with S2 60+ a must.
ohh okay. If i dont get into JMP this year then i might resit the UMAT and aim to get higher score. So, it does not matter what GPA have you finished your masters with? you automatically get a GPA of 7.0, as long as its a Masters?

Hey! Did you interview at UNE or UoN may i ask? and how did your interview go? I interviewed on 22nd november as well at UNE.
.

Thanks so much LMG. Have you applied anywhere other than UTas for medicine 2017 Interviews?

JMP interview was enjoyable for me, some stations I feel like I had some good things to say/do but other stations I'm not sure if I did that well. Very hard to determine how you go with that sort of thing, at least for me. We shall see, eagerly awaiting UAC offers.

I interviewed at UWS on Tuesday November 22, just realised I said UoN was 22 November but it was actually Wednesday 23 November haha. That was a massive two days.

Congrats Ricky89. How do you feel about it?

I stuffed one station up completely, and was average on another one. When i walked off i thought i have done pretty well in the remaining 6 stations. But, as the days are passing by and i am reflecting on what i said...i am thinking that i could have done better. Also thinking that may be i did not do too well to get a spot.lol

I believe so, Ricky. It's on the UTAS website. I will try and find the exact wording if I can.

I've only applied to UTAS because I have a mortgage and a dog and didn't want to move!

Very best of luck with your applications! I want to say I hope you get offers in your home state because it'll leave one more spot at UTAS (for me! ;)), but you seem pretty awesome and I'd really like to study with you! Haha!

Okay, so, I can't find what I'm looking for but, by the looks of it, if you want your Masters/PhD to be your route to non-standard entry, it has to be completed and in a Health Science or Science related area (and GPA doesn't look like it even matters - probably because it's an automatic 7.0/7.0).

If it's not in one of these areas you'd need to meet the 70% distinction average criteria for the last three semesters, I'm guessing... though it's not very clear what happens if your last three semesters were three of your four (non science) masters semesters, because some of those marks would be ungraded passes... WHO KNOWS?!

Sorry, I've probably confused you more than I've helped you! All I know for sure is my GPA is considered to be 7.0/7.0 and I have a health science related doctorate.

I think that's fairly common, I know I've felt the same whenever I've tried rehashing it. Many moments of 'oh I should have definitely said this!' But much better to be grateful we got interviews and wait for offers to be released. I would say it's nearly impossible to truly know how you did until you either a) receive an offer and know you did well or b) not receive an offer and realise you didn't do quite as well as 100-ish others (but still, you could have done well).

Haha on that same note it'll be awkward for my dog if I get an offer from UTas and no other uni, because then she's coming with me!

Thanks that's really nice of you! I'll study anywhere that will let me and would so love a UTas offer just to know I've got a definite place before UAC offers in January. Good luck to you as well,

Back on topic of the thread (sort of), I finally was able to check my UTas application on a computer and while at first it hadn't changed to 'yes' and give me a student number, I had to change my address (moved house the day after my JMP interview ) and once I'd updated those details it had changed me to 'yes' and given me a student number, lending more credence to the 'they give them to everyone' story.

I just called

Thanks for the update dimsimsi!

Like I said mine hasn't changed from 'no' and I haven't been given a student number, but my UMAT was 61/81/64 99th%ile. Non-standard, non-rural, interstate.

I'm only able to check on my mobile currently though so maybe that's making a difference?

I could see the changes on my mobile.

LMG, is your current student number 6 digits?

Ricky89 and w_akimm_z, have your applications changed?
If a few more 'No's' were to crop up we may still be on to something. Otherwise Littlebitsofgood's "No" could just be an anomoly.

Does anyone else find it odd only 2 confirmed offers have been reported so far? I thought standard applicants were just as well represented on this forum as non-standards...

There goes that theory...

Yep, my current student number is 6 digits and, as far as I'm aware, this is standard practice. I've never seen a non 6 digit student number and I've been at UTAS on and off since last century* ;)

I find it odd that the only two offers we've heard about so far are interstate school leavers! Given what we've heard about the competitiveness of this pathway, it seems very odd to me that offers would be out before results.

But I give up trying to predict admissions thought processes!!
