Offers UTAS 2017 (Discussion)

Thanks for the update dimsimsi!

I could see the changes on my mobile.

LMG, is your current student number 6 digits?

Ricky89 and w_akimm_z, have your applications changed?
If a few more 'No's' were to crop up we may still be on to something. Otherwise Littlebitsofgood's "No" could just be an anomoly.

Does anyone else find it odd only 2 confirmed offers have been reported so far? I thought standard applicants were just as well represented on this forum as non-standards...
I don't even know what I'm looking for shadowranger

[offtopic]I think it's about time you let go of the student number stuff...[/offtopic]

Hi @TAKTUK ,

Welcome to MSO!

This (the thread) is all the information we have for now, I think. People will probably post here if anything new comes up. I don't think we know the cutoffs yet, also these are just conditional offers.

Have you applied for UTas? If so, are you a non-standard?

Thank you.

ATAR is just a threshold of 95 along with meeting the subject prerequisites (Chem and English). As for Umat, scroll up to look at @A1. response - appears to be 90ish with high s2.

What does it mean by conditional offers ??

What does it mean by conditional offers ??

Hi @Myst ,

My understanding is that conditional offers are given to those who met the threshold mentioned above. In the case where an applicant ends up with a competitive ATAR will commence the course while another applicant with lower ATAR will not be offered a place in the end. (Since ATAR is not out yet).

Please, correct me if I am mistaken.

Thank you.

What does it mean by conditional offers ??

On the letter of offer there is a statement to the effect " it is conditional on my year 12 results". The school was contacted for an estimated ATAR result (which was given as a 96) and in the letter they said I needed to get at least an ATAR of 95 (including RAP equity points - which I am not sure how they are or if they are applicable) or else the offer will be withdrawn or some words to that effect.
There is also a requirement to pass a level of proficiency in my English and Chemistry subjects.
Hope that helps and good luck everyone !

Thanks Stuart and Mary Poppins for the reply.

So does that mean that, conditoinal offers were given out MORE than places available ?? and once the atar are published they will selectively give out final offers again ??

I didn't think that was the case in regards to more given than places available. Just thought the offer will still be valid as long as you meet the conditions stated on the letter when results do come out for ATAR later on. (Since results are not out yet, the uni only has the predicted ATAR to base their offers on. So when the real ATAR comes out, as long as this meets their threshold of 95 and you passed chem and English, your offer should still be valid)

Thanks for that. I was wondering because considering a 95 ATAR threshold, there will be hundreds of students who will accommodate that category, so that does mean whomever receives a conditional offer and meets threshold atar will again be competing with candidates with highest Atar again after the results are published for final offer placement ? Or they will be automatically accepted ?

Sorry for the dense questions. N thanks.

Hi Myst
I am not experienced but a rural application such as mine was assessed in the same way as a JCU application so I am guessing that "rurality" (15 years of it) is assessed as part of the application as well. In effect if the threshold is reached then the offer made stands. The rural pathway probably has different criteria than a non rural one and given the application process is different (to non-rural) then as with JCU high ATAR's do not necessarily mean a successful application ( from what I have read and understood on this website )

Yeah lots of applicants will get the 95 atar but the conditional offer is made based on both your predicted ATAR which should be >95 and your Umat as well.. and not many applicants will meet the required cut off for Umat..
If they give you the conditional offer it means they're ready to accept you straight away once your real ATAR is >95. ATAR is only a *threshold* at utas so that means it doesn't matter what you get as long as you get >95. You're not competing with anyone anymore if you have the conditional offer

What will happen if there is a conditional offer but your ATAR is low?
