Offers UTAS 2017 (Discussion)

So I recieved an offer, woot!

University: Utas
Offer: Commonwealth supported
Applicant Type: School leaver
Interstate: Yes
ATAR: Unknown
UMAT: 100th %tile (210 I think)
Rural: RA2 whole life

Now, I'm unsure what will happen if I accept the offer. Provided I get the ATAR, if I got an offer somewhere else, and would prefer to attend that uni, can I just withdraw from UTAS? Are there penalties (say a payment)? I'm guessing that it should be fine, but I'm just unsure.
Congrats! :) I did that last year too (although for different unis). There should be no penalties if you withdraw before a certain date (usually the census date), just be careful of that. And probably don't start enrolling/ paying for your subjects and stuff if you know you might withdraw.. If there's still a lot of time left to accept the offer you could leave it for a while if you wish, otherwise accepting and withdrawing later should be ok. Don't withdraw too late tho so other students can get their offers! ;) Call the uni and double check if you wish I guess!

Congratulations! You can definitely withdraw without penalty if you get an offer elsewhere :)

(Out of interest, did you get the offer yesterday or Tuesday like the other two who have posted?)

This probably doesn't mean anything but... the UTAS admissions service outage that was initially scheduled for this morning has been moved to the 5th of Dec according to the website.

Hey guys, congrats to everybody that got an offer! How exciting!

If you're a non standard student, would you mind posting your GPA and UMAT scores? Would be super helpful :)

Best of luck to everyone waiting!!

All of this info is available in the UMAT Results 2016 thread if you're keen to know more.

Yeah lots of applicants will get the 95 atar but the conditional offer is made based on both your predicted ATAR which should be >95 and your Umat as well.. and not many applicants will meet the required cut off for Umat..
If they give you the conditional offer it means they're ready to accept you straight away once your real ATAR is >95. ATAR is only a *threshold* at utas so that means it doesn't matter what you get as long as you get >95. You're not competing with anyone anymore if you have the conditional offer

Thanks everyone for the clarifations.

University: Utas
Offer: Commonwealth supported Bonded
Applicant Type: School leaver
Interstate: Yes (have lived in tas before, as well as other rural locations)
ATAR: Predicted around 98
UMAT: 58 %ile (58/48/48)
Rural: RA2 for 11 years

Really, really strange. Didn't expect this at all.

Next to my offer it says validity -14/12/16. Does that mean I have to reply to the offer by then?

Yes definitely. Log in your UTas application account, the offer should be in there with options to Accept or Decline. Don't click the wrong one :p

I got it on Monday, was away at JMP interview so only got it Wednesday evening though

For a Rural applicant (Ra2 for life, interstate), what ATAR will I need? I haven't been able to find it anywhere.
Hi
from what I understand they have a 95 ATAR as a benchmark but included in that is some Rural equity bonus which could mean your score could be a bit lower. This is my best guess from everything I have read and understood so far .Well done and awesome UMAT result !

I have copied an excerpt from the letter of conditional offer received
"This offer is conditional upon you attaining a minimum ATAR of 95 (after RAP equity bonus rank is applied) for admission to the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery. When the Year 12 results have been released, the School of Medicine will contact you directly, to confirm that you have met this condition"
Like LMG said how this equity bonus rank is calculated is not clear to me

Thanks, was very surprised, but I'll be pushing it to get that ATAR.

My understanding of the Rural Application Process is a bit different to what's been suggested above. I'm not saying it's more accurate, just offering my perspective on what I've read.

All MBBS applications are first considered for competitive entry. Those unsuccessful via that pathway but having also submitted an eligible RAP application are then considered under this pathway. The RAP offer is also, presumably, contingent upon responses to the (very) short answer questions. Though exactly how those three questions are 'scored' is anyone's guess!!

Just checking in with everyone.

How has everyone handled this week's interminable wait? Probably with more grace and patience than I have :)

Still stressed and still waiting! haha (I'm a graduate physio from SA), any projection on when to expect an offer or is my guess as good as yours?

Hi @Figjam17 ,

The best estimate would be closer to 15 December than anything. (My not-distracted theory).

Good luck for your application though! I hope you get it.
