I know this is kind of off topic, but how many papers do people typically choose in the first year? :bored:
I am thinking about taking Bachelor of Biomedical Sciences (BBiomedSc) next year.
[/OFFTOPIC]I will earn enough money to buy Carrington then DEMOLISH IT, HAHAHAHAHA
Hi everyone
I am trying to decide which college to put as my first choice. St Margarets has some appeal because it is quiet and close to lectures, but reading through this thread it seems people are ambivalent about the general atmosphere of the place. I haven't visited any of the Otago halls so I would appreciate any anecdotal information about St Margs. I guess I am trying to work out if the atmosphere is just somewhat serious (which I can deal with) or if it is more that the hall is generally unfriendly and that is what makes people uncomfortable.
Personally, I reckon if you are going to choose a hall, do it based off objective reasons (like food quality, room size, location etc).
I think the consensus is that every hall has its pros and cons. I think i remember someone here mentioned that they were at Unicoll (aka the party college) but still managed to find it an okay place to study in. I've heard similar experiences from my friends at Cumberland.
Up at Auckland, even people in the "quiet" halls manage to make friends that party hard. Some of my mates in BHSc say they can't imagine not going out every weekend (sometimes every night).
A good hall really is a small part of your university experience. Most of my studious hall buddies up at Auckland stay in the libraries and computer labs till 10-12 and only really go home to sleep, eat, shower and hang out. So regardless of which hall you end up, you'll be able to make a few friends AND get that quiet experience your after.
Personally, I reckon if you are going to choose a hall, do it based off objective reasons (like food quality, room size, location etc).
I am just wondering, if the halls does not play a significant role in the university life then why will there be more popular halls and other halls that most consider as "inferior"
There's more to "university life" than "get good grades" - even if we ignore the social side of things, halls will still differ greatly in the rooms, the food, the facilities etc.I am just wondering, if the halls does not play a significant role in the university life then why will there be more popular halls and other halls that most consider as "inferior"
But I really don't have the time to look through all 56 pages....
Hellooo!!!
So, need the typical need-advice-for-halls-preference-list etc....
And sorry if I am being repetitive..... But I really don't have the time to look through all 56 pages....mocks... Yay... Not
anyway.... The fact I am still not quite decided on my halls is nagging at me....
So I went to the open day but only got to look round a few halls.
I quite liked Arana overall, but I am worried it will be too outgoing for me...? Because Carrington seemed nice and more placid I guess, but I did like Arana the most.... Dont know if I will get in though.. Got level 1 + 2 endorsed with E, and took accelerate maths... Calc was a joke and mistake though.... But I am worried about sport, used to do hockey, but team was cancelled this year due to lack of players!![]()
but Have been pretty involved hough; formal comittee, science prefect, spca volunteer etc.... Do you think the sport thing will be a big issue?? And about the whole Placid thing....
Also I read that studholme only accepts 1st choices, is this true? Because I was thinking as putting it as 2nd.
If it is, is Hayward a good option as 2nd?
And if hayward 2nd, is unicol as last a good Idea? Because I dont know what else to put... Because atleast it is right on campus....
Anyway... Sorry I have rambled soooo much!!!! And thanks!!!![]()
