Otago Halls of Residence

Peer support leader, pipe band, concert band, choir group, drum major and student coach, tutor for children in need. I dont have an activity that i excel well in, I just do a lot. However I have been in a pipe band for 3 years and i plan to play for city of dunedin next year! :D
Should I change my mind and put hayward as my first instead? Knox second and maybe something else third?

I think you have a good chance of getting into Hayward with a profile like that, same with Knox as well, as long as you don't put it third. As for third choice:

1. Aquinas - good hall but a bit far from the main campus and town, but they have shuttles anyway (you still have to walk/taxi when you want to go to town though)
2. Cumberland - good hall from what I've heard, can get quite rowdy in the weekend.
3. Salmond - very quiet hall (I don't think they even go out) but a good and friendly atmosphere. A bit of a walk to uni though.
4. Unicol - rowdy lol but I like the atmosphere there. Plus it's right on campus.
5. Studholme - rowdy (this year they have a lot of PE students).
6. Toroa - if you get accepted by Toroa, turn it down and go to the waiting list.

I visited Knox College 2 weeks ago to have a look at the college. It's a bit far from the university but i like the old traditional scottish feel of the college. Were you at Knox on your first year?

I am actually still in my first year and yes I am at Knox, and I'm also returning so if you go to Knox next year you're probably gonna see me there :) I agree that Knox is a bit far from Uni but once you get used to it (and you will do so very quickly) you're gonna enjoy it a lot. Just ask @frootloop he's enjoying Knox so far.

2 weeks ago? Does that mean you came during Knox Campaign week?

I don't think it was the knox campaign week haha. Just wondering, when I logged in this morning into my accomodations account it says my application is at hayward college. When I got home, I logged in again to find that it's not there anymore. What does this mean?

The portal says "First year students with complete applications for 2014 will be advised on the 7th October 2013 if they have an offer or are on a waitlist. Please log in after 12pm on Monday 7th October to check the status of your application. "

Sounds pretty conclusive. Just as a note, the decisions for scholarships usually come out at around the same time as well if you applied for them.

Yupp! So first you'll get an email telling you what happens now and that they've sent out a letter.

The letter (and email) will have information about the hall, payment information, accomodation contracts and things like that to fill out and send back.

6. Toroa - if you get accepted by Toroa, turn it down and go to the waiting list.

If you get accepted by Toroa, then i reckon you should accept it. There are more applicants than places in Halls. Not worth the risk. Perfectly fine College plus they're building a brand new block over the summer. Only downside is having to walk 5 minutes to get your dinners. But it's really handy if you're already on campus. Great community vibe there. I wouldn't apply to go there, but if you're already on the general waiting list then don't risk turning them down and missing out altogether!

Yeah, personally I wouldn't apply there but if I had a choice between Toroa and flatting in first year I would probably pick Toroa. I don't know what they're like at Toroa at the moment but I think there's a possibility that some Carrington and Toroa combined tutorials might be run next year as well

I put Carrington>Knox>Unicol. Whats the chance of me getting into my first preference if I got 120+ E in level 2 and NZ rep for two or three business competitions.

Yeah I would say you have a pretty good chance as long as you put that in your statement. The wardens look pretty closely at each application.

Congratulations on making the best first choice ;) Actually your options were pretty smart, you obviously did your research.

Caesar Haha I was referring to the fact that froot didn't really know Knox before he came here, and when he did, he enjoyed it. If I asked you or rustyedge, you guys would not give unbiased opinions because you guys chose to come here.

Anyway, best of luck to everyone, it's only a few days until the offers go out.
