Otago Halls of Residence

Yea, for me to do that I'll have to wait until all the first-round offers are made and wait for the people to respond to their first round offers before I can ask them for any spare rooms.
I've emailed the Residential college that I wanted to be in (St Margaret's) but they keep saying they haven't received my application yet and so they cannot determine if I can get a spot there or not.

This waiting is getting me worried - I don't want to wait until next year for them to tell me that I can't get into any of the residential colleges... but if there are generally spare rooms, that makes me fell more at ease. Or maybe not since the Otago University Student population is ever increasing.
To this I give the answer:
You will be fine, just please be patient. And if worse comes to worst flatting will probably do you some good!
aaa24 and cathay808 are both flatting/at home this year, and are on 95% and 96% HSFY averages respectively. In the relatively unlikely case that you miss out on a residential college, there's *plenty* of flats out there.

I would be extremely surprised if there weren't spare rooms. Seriously. I wouldn't worry about it.

Everyone gets their Halls of Residence offers at 11th of October after 5pm (I think).
I phoned them up to see if my application would be sent to the Halls of Residence that I chose. They said no because I sent mine in too late and I was to be placed on the general wait list.
Yeah it is around that time hahha. Oh, I see. I hope you'll get into your preferences! My friends applied late too- but I'm sure it'll be okay.

And did you guys get that email from the Accommodation office??!!!- God, it gave me a panic attack. Apparently we'll be hearing which Halls we got into/ if we're on GWL earlier than expected.

Awesome, St. Margarets and Hayward are soo popular this year hahaha

Knox, Salmond and Carrington ...though I can't remember if I put Carrington first or Salmond first =SS

I am so nervous about finding out tomorrow. I'm going to sprint out of class and dash to a computer pod to find out if I have been accepted into Carrington. Fingers crossed.

Hahaha. Good luck to everyone for finding out offers tomorrow! I'm just hoping that there will be other health sci people on my floor wherever I get into :)

[offtopic] I didn't know what college I was in until the sent out the hard-copy in the post. And even then, my mum forgot to tell me it had arrived until like 2 weeks later  [/offtopic]
On a serious note: I know you all desperately want to get into Carrington/Smags, but please don't feel that getting into one of the other colleges is a bad thing. To be honest, given the impressions I've had on my (uncommon) ventures into Smags, I'd choose UniCol any day...
ETA: And if you get Hayward, you can look forward to rooms twice the size of anywhere else, then lol at all your Carrington/Smags/everywhere else friends as they try to cram all their stuff in a shoebox, while you have a nice luxurious ex-hospital room :p
ETA2: This was designed to calm down those who didn't get into Carrington/Smags, *not* to make people go 'oh gaw, I got St Margs, is that bad? lol, I can't win....

Got in St Margaret - a bit worrying to see a lot of negative impressions people have on it
I'm 95% confident that you'll enjoy your time there, and no, the negative impression is not because it's inherently bad, but because there are people who don't get in and panic about not getting in, and we try our best to reassure them on the fact that they didn't just miss out on the best thing in the whole universe, because that's not what St Marg is. It's a college, not a secret cult of definitely-getting-into-med health scis living in a newly-built skyscraper (the, uh, 'skyscraper' is unicol.)

When we put St Marg down a little to stop people panicking about not getting into it, we didn't intend for you to take that as a "I got into St Margaret's, I should panic," lol. Just chill, and enjoy your freedom until health sci begins. Whatever you do, don't waste your summer holidays studying for health sci...

You're lucky you got into St Margaret's. I really to get in there - if you don't want your spot, I'll take it...

I'm in the general wait list.

I got a place at Arana! But am opting to do engineering in Canterbury instead. Got accepted in rochester and rutherford there.
