Agreed, and the fact that it is spoon feeding you completed notes (hence preventing some people making their own from a variety of sources) is completely against HUBS policy. I mean, that is the very reason they deny us lecture slides before a lecture.
This I doubt. HUBS spoon-feed like mofo's anyway, so I don't think that's the issue with them. Seriously, you could rote-learn the entire course and get an A+ pretty easily.
The main problem is that they're in no way associated with the HUBS department, and they're making money off scared HSFY'ers, when their books have been shown to contain 'issues'.
ETA: F**king vestibule being covered in 'skin'. It sounded like the joke-answer, so I ignored it. fml.

Otago halls of residence

Hey guys, I'm looking at going to otago in hopes of getting into med or dent. im probably looking at going to Carrington. I wanted to ask you guys how much being under the rural origin scheme helps.

Thanks
Please post your questions in the relevant thread, thanks, Frootloop (NZ section mod)

I don't know exactly how much it helps (and I don't think any of our active members have gotten in/are trying through this scheme), but from random HSFY anecdotes it knocks the grade-threshold down a few percent, and may or may not have an impact on how much they look at your UMAT marks. Basically, it is easier to get in if you're rural, but it's still by no means easy.

Hates snow.
No. actually. Hates that hubs don't cancel their lectures.

Guess I'd better stick my head in here. Only did 3 three weeks of 2011 so hoping to stay a little longer next year. Going to have to flat - was supposed to be getting one with frootloop but he doesn't sound interested anymore, so if anyone's looking for a flatmate I'd be much appreciative.

Exam Timetable now on PIMS
HUBS: 21OCT 0930
BIOC: 26OCT 0930
HEAL: 28OCT 0930
(All three are as predicted using past day of week information.)

Eighth paper info from exam timetable site
MAOR102: 21OCT 1430 (ouch, right after HUBS)
BSNS104: 20OCT 1430
PSYC112: 31OCT 0930
Looks like all 3 of the popular ones this year have highly unideal exam times...

hey guys, I have a question about residential halls in otago. is it absolutely necessary to stay in a hall in your first year doing hsfy? i applied for st margarets, but now i think if i flat with my sister in dunedine, then i would save lots of money..... honestly, i don't know how i'm going to pay for halls, even with scholarships. they're so expensive!!! do you guys think that that would damage my chances of getting into med? because obviously i wouldn't have access to the tutorials, etc. thanks

1) On a moderation note, please post questions in this HSFY2012 or 'residential colleges' thread.
2) The 'tutorials', at my hall at least, aren't all they're cracked up to be. And no, I don't think you'd be disadvantaging yourself, but I suppose it depends what kind of social experience you're after in Otago....
But no, I don't think it will damage your chances of getting into med.

I recommend unicol, it has a bad rep for being rowdy but the people here are pretty great and you're bound to find people you get along with.

The food is pretty great and theres tons of events, also being on campus has helped me more times than i can count.

The HUBS192 blackboard announcement entitled "Terms Test Results" had me going for a second just now. >.>

[offtopic]For those that haven't seen it yet, it's nothing to get hyped about - just a 'be patient' announcement:
Posted on: Friday, 19 August 2011

Please DO NOT e-mail the HUBS office (or put posts on discussion board) asking when the terms test results will be available. Once they have been fully processed and uploaded then an announcement will be put up on Blackboard.
Thanks for your co-operation.

Hope the Epi test went well with everyone, it seemed as expected.

it was pretty fair i thought, think i got caught out by that one about surveillance of lung cancer, and im not sure about that one about the vaccine for influenza, i put the answer about free vaccines for 65 year olds, not antiviral drugs.

In other news, applications for professional programs for 2012 are now open (yes, yes I have already submitted mine  ), good luck kiddies!

Yeah I put that one for the vaccine as well because it would nicely explain the huge decrease in mortality and concurrent increase in vaccination, but for the surveillance one: I put 'Describing causes and consequences' lol was thinking about that one for like 10 mins and in the end, I just couldn't be bothered...

Where did you find that? Do you mean enrolment or actual applications?

Jokes just saw it on Blackboard. Do we still do online registration as well?
