Thanks for your reply JeydinNewWon…fingers crossed 🤞
Oh if I wasn't clear, yeah your UCAT should be above 90th percentile which is why I said depends on the 90th percentile, and your ATAR should be > 99.50. But I would aim for near perfect ATAR for a higher chance of medicine entrance!!

Good luck :)

Hi there! 4th time UCAT sitter... (welp)

Really good VR, so def apply to WSU. Though they aren't very non-GWS friendly...Probably not high enough for JMP, however.

Give UNSW a try, you might get an interview but idk what your ATAR was to definitively say you got an offer.

Hey everyone,

I was debating whether to put up my score, but I feel it will help some of you out there, so here are my results this year!

Here are my thoughts on the exam:

Unfortunately, on the exam day, I was beginning to get sick and developed a full-blown fever. I developed a throat ache the night before, but I dismissed it. I felt very weird on the morning of the exam, and the exam experience felt horrible. My anxiety went into complete over-drive, and I just scrambled through the exam. I tested myself for covid afterwards, and it was negative, but it felt like a blow. In hindsight, I should have rebooked my exam, but it is what it is.
I do feel that getting sick was partly contributed to my anxiety. I did the most prep this year, but so much of it was fear-driven. I couldn't imagine myself NOT getting an excellent UCAT result, as I wasn't enjoying physiotherapy placement. I had just gotten through being rejected based on my medicine interview last year, and I wasn't performing well on my physio placements. I pinned everything on the UCAT this year and got super anxious.

However, I think I'll see this result as a gift in a few years. It made me realise that academic results are not life or death or the be-all and end-all of life. A career is just one aspect of your life. Medicine is one path out of many paths where I can make a difference. I'll likely be very happy working as a musculoskeletal physiotherapist in the next few years. Knowing that now, I think I will be super relaxed for the following year.

I won't give up, and that's for a couple of reasons. I'm only in my early 20s and have no primary responsibilities. My parents are pretty happy to support me, I'll be entering the workforce as a physiotherapist next year and further developing my career. This situation would look quite different were I was in my 30s or 40s with a family to take care of. There is very little downside to doing the UCAT next year. Even if I don't make it, I'll develop skills that are at least somewhat transferable to my physio career.

The biggest thing I would do would be deliberate practice. I finally figured out a method to analyse my mistakes this year, but I only figured it out around May-June. By that time, I had done a fair amount of practice exams, but I didn't really analyse my mistakes. I suggest reading this article from Farnam Street: The Ultimate Deliberate Practice Guide: How to Be the Best.

I'll also be doing the GAMSAT in September this year and March next year, as well as applying to Bond.

If you're a year 12 out there considering what to do, I suggest you read the Pitfalls article by Mana on MSO. That article was so helpful to me when I was going through year 12. If you're a 2nd, 3rd or 4th time sitter and you didn't get the results you wanted, don't fret! It's simply another opportunity to better prepare yourself for getting into medicine. It really sucks when you've put all this effort into something and not get the results you've wanted, but if you stick with it, I promise you that something special will happen. At the end of the day, just make small little choices everyday that you will be proud of. I'm so proud of the effort I've put in this year, and I know that even if I don't become a doctor in the future, I'll rest easy knowing that I made the right choices.

Here's to the next couple of years!😁😁😁

Sat the UCAT today for the 2nd time, here are my results above (my attempt to reduce reporter bias)

Tbh I’m pretty happy with the improvement from last year (especially AR!), I hope its that much more in my next sitting, staying optimistic!

Hi,
Would really appreciate if someone can give advise to my query…I expect my ATAR to be 99.5
UCAT score 2990 and SJ 705
hi i had the exact same ucat score last year (even sjt as well haha) with a 99.55 and only got a UNSW interview, but i had EAS/SCATS.

Hey I got a 2980 and 7 GPA (92 ish WAM)

Any chance you would know if people got any UNSW med interview offers with those scores or close to that? And anyone have a rough idea at my chances of UNSW interview?

I saw an interview offer on MSO for 99.6 and 2950 last year on the 2023 Interview Offers forum

Hmm I'd say give it a shot, but really depends on the 90th percentile. If you get an interview, it means you have a slim chance!

If it means anything, your persistence is amazing and I really admire that!!

The time and effort you are willing to persevere through these years to get into medicine is really, really inspiring :).

I really hope you become a doctor one day :DD

Im currently a Uni Student with a Gpa of 6.2, and rural ra2. Im currently looking to see if it would be worth while applying to both WSU/CSU and Newcastle/New England med programs. Ive had a look at previous years and it im unsure as whether i would be getting an interview spot, if anyone could help me decide it would be much appreciated.

Def worth applying to both JPM (WSU/CSU) and JMP (UoN/UNE). Give UNSW a try too, since you seem competitive, but your ATAR must’ve been above 91.00.

Hi everyone,

I've just sat ucat for the 3rd time today and received a score of 3130 (received 2850 in 2021 and 3070 in 2022). I was slightly devastated not to get a JMP offer last year and was banking on getting a bit higher this year, but 3130 still seems borderline compared to their 3100 cut off last year and 3040 cut off the year before.

Does anyone know roughly the UCAT percentiles (I know the scores for the last 2 years but not the percentiles, and have no idea about the year before) required for JMP the last few years and if you think 3130 has any chance of an interview offer?

Thanks for any help

Just done UCAT:

probs too low for any med, any chance with adelaide dentistry?

Not just desperate, but down right despicable. Absolutely immoral.

Hmm depends on what 90th percentile is. I think you might get UNSW interview if your ATAR is also > 99.50, but other than that, I don't really think you can get an interview at other unis. :(
super bad, but karma hit them and they didn't do well in the ucat

I awake from my slumber to once again make a UCAT post!! :D :D :D

Tbh I don't really want to do medicine as much as I used to, but I figured I'd just try the UCAT again to keep my options open for the future? Idk it was kinda illogical and irrational decision (doesn't help that y'all snatch all the good time slots after one day) and the UCAT was slightly annoying as I had to worry about it on top of my uni assignments sigh.

OKAYYY IT'S THE WAY I got the SAME SCORE THREE YEARS IN A ROW 😂😂🤣 I SWEAR THIS IS RIGGGGEDDD (to be fair tho, I failed to learn my lesson from 2022, and practiced even less 💀💀, so I guess you reap what you deserve lmao).

But anyway I don't really care; at the moment, I'm more pre-occupied with university and I'm pretty much certain I'll stick to computer science (at least for a while). Though my ego might compel me to take the UCAT just to break my personal record. I've kind of developed an enjoyment of the UCAT??? if one puts it weirdly. Idk, I kind of enjoy the stress and exhilaration of just doing the exam...it's kinda fun, almost like a video game, and I'm kinda a competitive person xD

Thoughts on each section
VR:

Texts were long, but nothing I couldn't really handle. Tbh, I find you can actually read and process these texts real quick - the key is to eliminate subvocalization. I've definitely matured in my reading skills (likely because of reading more books and university life), so Verbal Reasoning felt more natural for me. I am happy with this score and I'd thought I would've gotten lower.

DM:
I'll be honest, I feel this is slightly BS xD?? Idk how the heck I got lower than VR for this section, I felt I did much better (guess I did not). I didn't practice logical puzzles as much, so it definitely showed in my lack of speed in completing this section. It's annoying how I got lower than last year...

QR
Thoroughly surprised! I thought I would've gotten lower since I encountered one really weird set of questions - which straight up didn't make much sense, which I guessed. I suppose that was the "test set" which doesn't count...

AR
Not sure how I got so low?? I thought I did much better for this section 😭😭😭. I could guess the patterns, but maybe I didn't do enough of the harder ones. I think I should've kept track of the hard ones in the question banks.

I know that 90% of you probably won't be happy with your marks, and another 5% of you might feel unconfident if you will even get an interview. But I just wanted to say: I think it's a big achievement to even sit the UCAT. This test isn't easy, and it's designed to cull applicants. But know that getting into medicine now isn't a big deal, and there's plenty of opportunities down the path if you're really committed to becoming a doctor. I know someone who didn't score as high as I did, but he's adamant about pursuing medicine, and he's gonna keep pushing until he gets in. Your persistence will reward you one day, I promise!

I'd like to add that University is an experience of its own, if many of you intend to go down that path, and you should make the most of your university years appreciating the experience, NOT worrying about how to get into medicine all the time :)

Here's to another year, and good luck to all the candidates!! :)
needed to hear this cheers

Shocked because I only prepped for 2 weeks this year (compared to MONTHS in previous years) and idek what happened during VR. The texts were long but I found them interesting so I think that helped. I know JMP cutoff last year was 3100, would I have any chance at WSU?

WOWWW that persistence is impressive!!! And looks like it really did pay off How did u prepare for only two weeks?
I'm so happy for your improvement :)

I also agree the texts were really long but for some reason they were interesting to read so I got a decent amount of 'em :D

Your WSU chance depends on your GWS allocation or not. If you are GWS, I think you'd have a godo chance!!

thank you so much!! i focused on uni a lot more this year and only started doing mocks at the start of this month due to assignments, but I guess all the practice from previous years came thru hahah

Hi,

The JMP cut-off each year sits at the 95th %ile, which is subject to change depending on the performance of the cohort each year. Trying to predict the percentiles each year can prove pretty futile - as you probably know the cut-off for 2023 entry was 3100, 3040 the year before. Logically, you would expect the cut-off for 2024 entry to probably sit somewhere from 3130-3150 given that percentiles shouldn't increase by the same increment each year, but again, I could be wrong. I'd say your assessment of "borderline" is accurate, but you're in with a chance of an interview offer for sure. Let's hope the percentiles remain fairly static, we'll find out in September. Hope this helps.
