Your ATAR won’t be nearly enough for interstate non-rural for UTAS, and you’d need UES to boost your ATAR to 99.95 for Flinders.
Alright then! Thanks for your help! Would my results also be enough for dentistry in most unis? If so, which unis would be within reach with the results that I have?

Hey Guys,

I was a bit unsure of which 6 preferences to put for QTAC and needed some guidance into which of the 6 options to choose from. My UCAT score was 3320 and my expected ATAR is between 97-98. I am an NSW school leaver and I also get bonus points for doing 4unit maths at UQ. I just wanted to know which course choices for QLD medicine will give me the best shot at getting in . Thanks in advance.

97-98 + Maths & 3320 you're practically assured of a UQ Dent offer (still no interview right?) if you want it. I suggest UQ Med unbonded/bonded, JCU Med, choose one of xxQ Med unbonded/bonded, and UQ Dent at 6th as fallback if no Med offer.

EtA: On 2nd thought regarding "choose one of xxQ Med unbonded/bonded", if you want to be tricky maybe go one of xxQ Med unbonded and a different xxQ bonded - this way you get two xxQ interviews and still be in contention for both unbonded and bonded.

Thanks for your reply. Is JCU worth it because isnt it minimum 99 atar to be competitive, or at least thats what I have heard. Also what about the CQU pathway courses.

I did think about whether JCU was worth it. Depends what else you'd do with the pref slot. In the past there were occasionally a few non-rural 97-98 who got JCU interviews.

Also what about the CQU pathway courses.
By xxQ i meant one of CQU Bundaberg / CQU Rockhampton / USQ.

Let's do this - Check that (1) you can add UQ Dent to the prefs late in December, and (2) CQU-B / CQU-R / USQ hold their interviews on different dates, you can try
UQ Med unbonded/bonded + JCU Med + CQU-B unbonded + CQU-R bonded + USQ bonded (something like that).

Then by December if you don't get a JCU invite, remove it to add in UQ Dent.
But note this won't work if the xxQs hold interviews on the same date.

Hi, with a 99.20 ATAR (no adjustment points or subject boosts) and a 3160 UCAT plus a 629 SJT (so total score of 3789); is it enough for UQ dental? Or Griffith dental interviews? I’m from NSW as well (and not rural).

We saw last year a 99.25 + 3701 got a UQ Dent offer. Your 99.20 meets the 99.0 threshold, 3789 looks very promising.

I'm not familiar with Griffith Dent interview invites, hope someone can comment.

Hi Guys, as a gap year applicant who graduated last year in 2022 with an atar of 97.85 (without subject bonus points or adjustment factors) in NSW and non-rural, and I am applying for EAS (has not been approved yet) and I have a 3140 UCAT this year in 2023 plus a 574 SJT (so a total of 3714), I also achieved a band 6 in Mathematics Extension 1 and 2 in HSC (equivalent of Queensland Specialist Maths), is it enough for UQ dental, and how many subject bonus would I be eligible for?

For UQ, Maths C and LOTE gets 2 ATAR ranks each. Your Maths C equivalent will get your ATAR over the 99.0 threshold.

BIG CORRECTION: I now realise that a gap-year applicant may not get the UQ Subject bonus, sorry.

As mentioned above 3701 was good for last year UQ Dent, your 3714 is a little better but not enough to be assured. Keep your fingers crossed.

s anyone giving CASPER, how challenging is it. I am trying to figure to how much prep time is required to get a good CASPER score.

I am also a gap year student but I am repeating a subject this year.

On the UQ wesbite, I found this:

Who is eligible

You can apply for our Subject Incentive Scheme if you're:

  • currently completing Year 12 in Australia (including International Baccalaureate students), or
  • an Australian citizen currently completing an approved overseas senior matriculation program (assessed as equivalent to Queensland senior studies).
Would keywords be currently completing Year 12? Not sure if the OP or I would be eligible.

I think you are right - from this wording the subject scheme doesn’t seem to apply for gap year students. It might be worth emailing UQ to check on your individual circumstances though.

Just another question I had, would my ATAR and UCAT be enough for Monash University if I do get SEAS approval?

From this ucat3300+ post UQ said repeating a Y12 subject does make you eligible for the Subject bonus points (even if the repeat subject is not Maths/LOTE)
> UQ - UQ Dentistry: Admissions General Discussion

From this info I need to correct my post above regarding gap year. IMO subject bonus is purely subject bonus, I find it strange that UQ gives it only to current/repeat students.

Hard to say. Even if you get SEAS to boost ATAR to high 99s your 3140 UCAT (96-97%ile?) is sort of borderline for interstate Monash. Have to wait & see.

Hi guys, I am a non standard rural applicant I also am eligible for EAS at some universities. I just want to know what my chances of interview are with a UCAT of 2650 and gpa of 6.4? I know there isn’t much data on rural applicants, just thought I’d check.

Thank you so much for your help and insight! Based on this, it looks like I’m very borderline for several universities right now lmao, anyhow, we’ll wait and see what the outcome is for each! :)

Hi guys, hoping I could get some input on the chances of getting into UNSW, WSU or JMP for med. I'm a 2022 graduate (99.85 atar) and my ucat this year is 3120 (by the WSU formula it is 770.2). Wanting some suggestions on which other unis I could consider applying to as well. Thanks!
