Random question. My wife got an ATAR of 99.5 but has a completed degree with the GPA at only 5.16, she’s classified as GWS which requires a completed GPA of 5.2.

Is there any precedence of using the highest of ATAR and GPA for WSU?
Hi,

I'm in exactly the same situation as above. I have an ATAR/UAI of 96 which meets the GWS threshold, but my graduate diploma (my best tertiary qualification) has an ATAR equivalent of 93 (0.5 below the threshold). I paid UAC to assess my qualifications last year.

Any insight would be great, hoping to be able to use my ATAR or for there to be some leniency, seeing that i'm only short by 0.5!

Do not belong to Rural. Could someone guide me what are my best possible options across Australia Uni for Medicine - finishing year 12

I awake from my slumber to once again make a UCAT post!! :D :D :D

Tbh I don't really want to do medicine as much as I used to, but I figured I'd just try the UCAT again to keep my options open for the future? Idk it was kinda illogical and irrational decision (doesn't help that y'all snatch all the good time slots after one day) and the UCAT was slightly annoying as I had to worry about it on top of my uni assignments sigh.

OKAYYY IT'S THE WAY I got the SAME SCORE THREE YEARS IN A ROW 😂😂🤣 I SWEAR THIS IS RIGGGGEDDD (to be fair tho, I failed to learn my lesson from 2022, and practiced even less 💀💀, so I guess you reap what you deserve lmao).

But anyway I don't really care; at the moment, I'm more pre-occupied with university and I'm pretty much certain I'll stick to computer science (at least for a while). Though my ego might compel me to take the UCAT just to break my personal record. I've kind of developed an enjoyment of the UCAT??? if one puts it weirdly. Idk, I kind of enjoy the stress and exhilaration of just doing the exam...it's kinda fun, almost like a video game, and I'm kinda a competitive person xD

Thoughts on each section
VR:

Texts were long, but nothing I couldn't really handle. Tbh, I find you can actually read and process these texts real quick - the key is to eliminate subvocalization. I've definitely matured in my reading skills (likely because of reading more books and university life), so Verbal Reasoning felt more natural for me. I am happy with this score and I'd thought I would've gotten lower.

DM:
I'll be honest, I feel this is slightly BS xD?? Idk how the heck I got lower than VR for this section, I felt I did much better (guess I did not). I didn't practice logical puzzles as much, so it definitely showed in my lack of speed in completing this section. It's annoying how I got lower than last year...

QR
Thoroughly surprised! I thought I would've gotten lower since I encountered one really weird set of questions - which straight up didn't make much sense, which I guessed. I suppose that was the "test set" which doesn't count...

AR
Not sure how I got so low?? I thought I did much better for this section 😭😭😭. I could guess the patterns, but maybe I didn't do enough of the harder ones. I think I should've kept track of the hard ones in the question banks.

I know that 90% of you probably won't be happy with your marks, and another 5% of you might feel unconfident if you will even get an interview. But I just wanted to say: I think it's a big achievement to even sit the UCAT. This test isn't easy, and it's designed to cull applicants. But know that getting into medicine now isn't a big deal, and there's plenty of opportunities down the path if you're really committed to becoming a doctor. I know someone who didn't score as high as I did, but he's adamant about pursuing medicine, and he's gonna keep pushing until he gets in. Your persistence will reward you one day, I promise!

I'd like to add that University is an experience of its own, if many of you intend to go down that path, and you should make the most of your university years appreciating the experience, NOT worrying about how to get into medicine all the time :)

Here's to another year, and good luck to all the candidates!! :)

Yep. The only thing with this is that some unis have different GPA requirements depending on how far through the degree you are. But the subject of the degree is irrelevant.
Could pleasw you explain more about the GPA requirements for a different amount of completed years? Or just an example.

as far as I'm aware atars are only valid for 2 years so I think unis will only be looking at your wife's GPA not atar

Ah, it's okay, I don't really mind tbh because I already knew medicine was not a make/break for me, I'd still be content even if I didn't perform as well as I'd hoped :D!

No, this is untrue.

For example, at UNSW, they will use the "BEST OF" algorithm to select between your ATAR or GPA, granted that you haven't completed your undergraduate degree.

Hi, I graduated high school in 2022 and took a gap year. My ATAR was 99.2 and I have an EAS due to living in a low socioeconomic area. My UCAT score this year was 3160. What are the chances of getting an Interview and/or offer at Charles Sturt dentistry? I am not rural nor am I indigenous. Thank you so much everyone!!!

or for UQ dentistry, Monash medicine or UNSW medicine? (I'm from NSW) thanks in advance :)
Hi! i had similar stats last year and EAS/SEAS and I got into monash med, uq med, rej but got int from UNSW and didn’t apply for others. :) hope this helps

Unfortunately WSU have a rule they only use GPA when we have a completed degree. So bad luck 5.16 just misses the 5.2 required, I don't know if WSU can be persuaded.

my graduate diploma (my best tertiary qualification) has an ATAR equivalent of 93 (0.5 below the threshold). I paid UAC to assess my qualifications last year.
I assume UAC has converted your Grad Dip GPA 5.6 to ATAR 93?

This might not help you but just in case - technically WSU requires Grad Dip to be 5.7+ for GWS, not a conversion to 93.5+.

Does anyone know if the bonded medical programmes have a lower UCAT requirement?
Bonded offers are only decided by the final ranking *after* the interview.
That means no difference in UCAT requirement for interview invites, can be lower for bonded place offers where UCAT is counted into the final ranking.

Hi everyone! Just sat the UCAT ANZ from the UK and here are my scores (along with the UCAT UK last year):

Just want to know if there are any unis (except those in NSW as it becomes much more complicated from my end) that I have a particularly high chance of being shortlisted for interviews (so excluding Griffith, Flinders, Tasmania, etc.)

Thanks!

Thanks for the reply. My gpa assessed by uac was actually 5.67. Hopefully they can round up to 5.7 haha.
I finally did well enough in the ucat to likely get an interview at wsu, would be disappointing to miss out by 0.3 of a gpa point!

Hi,
Would really appreciate if someone can give advise to my query…I expect my ATAR to be 99.5
UCAT score 2990 and SJ 705

Some people pay money to people living in regional locations to add their names to certain documents so they can provide 'proof' of living in regional areas. Its honestly wild how desperate people are.

Yup had 5 friends who did this who got more than 99.5 but less than 99.95.
Not just desperate, but down right despicable. Absolutely immoral.

Hmm depends on what 90th percentile is. I think you might get UNSW interview if your ATAR is also > 99.50, but other than that, I don't really think you can get an interview at other unis. :(
