On the obesity s1 question:

how can u deem research unworthy if it doesn’t include data on other aspects which previous research includes?

Imagine there’s 2 research papers on the comparison of lifespan (can’t think of an appropriate word but hear me out on the point I’m making haha) of 3 types of teeth (incisors, canines and molars) to premolars.

And then there’s a third research paper on the comparison of lifespan of only molars to premolars.

Are u going to say that the third research paper is useless? That it has nothing in it that can be compared to the previous two research papers? Of course there is. You can use the data in all 3 papers to compare lifespan of molars to premolars. it’s just that one research paper was more focussed and the other two were broader.

Interstate is but a pipe dream for me so..
1. Monash
2. Drift aimlessly in biomed, while kinda wanting to do science for its flexibility if not for cultural pressures - same thing stopping me from going interstate... or maybe that's just plain old sexism

Since you mentioned Monash, I'm assuming you're in Victoria. If this is the case, doesn't Uni. of Melbourne have some sort of guaranteed post-graduate scheme for med that may be an option for you too?

If you get a 99.90 (I believe) then there's a guaranteed entry. If you hit 99 and maintain a 75% average in your course then there's a guaranteed entry but I think it's a full fee spot. I'm too poor for anything besides CSP. Can't fork over 50k a year...

You don't even get a gauranteed spot. You get an interview.

Oh really? I know someone who went to Uni. of Melbourne (graduated last year) and is currently on a gap year...she said that next year she's doing Dentistry there since it's guaranteed? Hmm, has she been bending the truth?

Wowe Lear how u get that thing next to ur name saying s1 enthusiast.

What’s the story behind u being called an s1 enthusiast?

It’s in profile settings.
I just genuinely enjoyed doing some Section 1 questions. It’s something you don’t need to know any content for. They’re legitimately fun for me.

What is everyone’s Med school preferences?

Mine is:
1. UNSW and WSU [equal - not sure which id prefer - since I’m a GWS student (helps with wsu and I’m nearby) and I’m eligible for EAS (helps with unsw and I attend uni here)]
2. JMP (edit: and JCU)
3. The rest

I am a lot older than most (34). I have two young children, my husband is the breadwinner for our family and so moving is not an option for us. I've already spent 9years at uni, so I would be reluctant to choose a degree that imposes more than 5 years of study. I need to be close enough to home to see my children/minimise commuting as much as i can. Thus my choices are

1. JMP
2. WSU

That is it :)

You don't even get a gauranteed spot. You get an interview.

There is a major difference. The guaranteed students get an interview without GAMSAT then if they pass the interview, they get a place.

The other students need sufficient GPA+GAMSAT to get an interview then if they pass the interview, need a sufficient GPA+GAMSAT+Interview score (relative to the other applicants) to get a place.

What are the chances of passing Melbourne uni's 3rd year interview? what happens if you fail, can you re-sit the interview a year later or do you have to do gamsat?

I have read somewhere only 1-2 a year out of 30ish guaranteed students failed before. The criteria for passing is like having 50+ average marks for the 8 MMI stations PLUS not having more than 3 stations <50. For example 4 45s + 4 75s would be a fail despite 60 average. Good thing is you only need to pass not have to compete against other students.

I guess if you fail you'll have to re-apply next year as a non-guaranteed student.
